Interesting fact: The guy who started Ring went on Shark Tank in 2013 to seek a $700,000 investment in the company, which he estimated was worth $7 million. Only Keven O'Leary was interested, but they could not agree on a deal. In 2018 Ring was sold to Amazon for estimated value of between $1.2 billion and $1.8 billion (estimate from Wikipedia).

very much appreciate your demeanor and not seeming like you're talking down to those of us not so capable. My question is about the small transformer. There isn't one by my fuse box and there is zero chance I'm crawling through that attic to find it. Can I just install and see if it works or is this a bad idea like it feels as I'm asking.

I love and respect your stuff, but ring doorbells collect so much personal data. Please be careful, and read into the privacy and security concerns with this line of products.

@@ValentijnEnJack First, you don't have to let Ring/Amazon collect any data if you are not concerned about keeping history and only want a live view. Second, this is on the outside of the house, not indoors. Third, the videos they store are for your use only, and Ring/Amazon does not use the video history. I have a Ring doorbell on the front and rear of my home, and pay $3 per month per unit (or $10 a month for unlimited units including regular video cameras) to store the videos (which are collected when the motion detector sees something that you may want to record). There is an ability to customize the field of view that sets off the motion detector to very specific parts of the camera view that is user defined. I agree that there are a lot of security and privacy concerns on the Internet, but I honestly do not think this is one of them.
