    I can't find the video with my original comment where 7 months ago, I thanked you for the video, and was happy to have made a terrarium myself.
    I wanted to say, it thrived. I hadn't opened it for 7 months, and it did great. The great variety of insects that spawned in it was amazing. I even had an inscect create a little saliva home on the deadwood.
    At the end, there was a healthy icopod family living in there, along with rain worms and milipedes.
    Unfortunately today, I fainted and dropped into the terrarium, leading to its tip over the shelf, which destroyed the layers and put a burst in the glass. I decided to release the animals into my backyard.
    I wanted to once again thank you for the helpfull videos!

      Oh wow I hope you are ok? The one with the saliva home was probably a spittle bug. Maybe you can try to make another one some day

      @@HomemadeEcosystems I will definantly create another one someday soon! I want a bigger container this time, hehe. The succes from the last one inspired me.
      Oh and yes, I'm okay, thank you. It was just yoga gone wrong... I knew the excercise had to be done with caution, but I've never fainted because of it before. I've done it many times. I guess because I got out of bed an hour ago, my body wasn't as metabolistic as I expected (if that's a word)

    I got two questions: Can‘t the animals escape from the holes at the side of the plastic box?
    And do animals appear even if you do not add any from an old terrarium? Thank you

    • @HomemadeEcosystems
      @HomemadeEcosystems  Před rokem +7

      I haven't seen any escape so far! It is possible that animals appear if you are a bit lucky and there are eggs in the soil but you will never be sure 😁

    I totally forgot that a way you can get bugs and other tiny critters is to lure them with food 🤭🥒

      To be quite honest, this method works for almost all living creature...
      But it's nice to see a variety of insects sharing space and resources peacefully together.

      Definitely moist places but maybe this video helps: czcams.com/video/5BbsyIMFsDk/video.html

    Question: if I live in an area with poor natural soil quality, will store bought soil that has been sitting outside my house for about 18 months (used to house some now long-dead potted plants) work in place of naturally bioactive soil?

    • @HomemadeEcosystems
      @HomemadeEcosystems  Před rokem +2

      It should have a lot of microorganism after 18 months! Mix in some pieces of dead leaves, sticks in the soil and if possible find some sprintails (in moist areas). After that you can definitly use it in a terrarium

    • @elleofthewilds
      @elleofthewilds Před rokem +1

      @@HomemadeEcosystems alright, and would smoother small stones work in place of gravel for drainage?

    • @HomemadeEcosystems
      @HomemadeEcosystems  Před rokem +2

      @@elleofthewilds yes! As long as you have a layer that can hold some water it should work

    If I know a place in my backyard where there are insect eggs (idk what species) in the soil should I put them in a terrarium
