    When Freddie died this song was played everywhere, every station and TV show, every newspaper and columnist quoted it. It was almost as if it had been written for the future. Highlander was great and we spent so much of our youth quoting it to our friends.

    Brian is the most underrated guitarists of all time. You see these lists of best guitarists or top 10 guitarists of all time and you always see the same names like Pete Townsend, Slash, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, and nobody ever mentions Brian May. He was a, no, IS a musical genius. He and his father designed and made his own guitar out of stuff laying around their home like a freaking sewing needle and a piece from a saddlebag. He made the knobs himself, and he plays it like it's just an extension of his fingers and never do you hear him on any list of greatest guitarists ever or greatest guitarists of all time, you don't hear any accolades given to this man who is truly a guitar master. That pisses me off to no end and that is criminal.

      Most critic's and the average schmuck on the street may not give Brian his due. But most current top guitarists sure do. Everyone from Jeff Beck to Slash admit to the influence May had on them. Well not so much Beck as he came first but he did call Brian The Governor and said everyone wanted to play Brian's licks instead of his. When those who know wtf they are doing list Brian as an influence. That is enough for me.

    • @teresadutson3121
      @teresadutson3121 Před 5 lety +8

      @@Sneak65 I've heard very very few people mention him as an influence or say that he is one of the greatest or he was a great influence to them or that they wanted to play like him. There have been a few. I've heard Slash mention it once, but even the greats like Pete Townsend and Keith Richards have never said anything about him. It's just sad that his own "people" can't say Oh you know who else plays really hot or I'm think you missed someone who should be on this list or you know who else is amazing ...nothing.

    • @aaronlock5091
      @aaronlock5091 Před 5 lety +24

      Well actually he is 26 at Rolling Stone list. But fuck the Rolling Stone, those bitches hated the band at the times and seems they are not over it yet. But, Brian is No.2 in the Guitar World list made by readers poll results at 2012 and that's a result.
      And musicians do give him credits, at least check it in the internet, i'm not gonna do it by myself.
      So I don't see how May or the whole band is underrated. Maybe by those shitminded critics, but not by people.

    When he sits in front of that piano and starts to play and sing, it is like everything else in the world is silent and it seems like, to me, he knows you're there and you're listening, it's a performance, but it's almost like he's there alone with his piano and he gives every single ounce, every drop of energy, all of him- every bit of emotion, every bit of passion, into what he's playing and singing. It's almost like he is just so engrossed in the music that even though he obviously seems aware there's stuff going on around him, cuz you know he looks around and what not, he also seems to be in a world of his own, singing and playing with every single thing he's got and he is going to give every ounce and every bit of him in that song.

Freddie & Jim wore wedding bands & Freddie referred to Jim as his husband. Jim never heard of Freddie when they met because he was a gentleman's barber in a high class hotel & lived a quiet lifestyle. Their sweet love story is documented in Jim's lovely, funny, sad, sincere book called Mercury & Me, most libraries have it or buy on Amazon. It Freddie's life in real time, at home with Jim living a surprisingly normal married life. Jim gave Freddie the love he dreamed of & when Freddie told Jim he was dying of aids & said he would understand completely if Jim wanted to leave, Jim told Freddie "I love u FREDDIE, I'm not going anywhere" & stayed with him taking care of him till he died.

    Oh, and by the way, have you already heard "Love of my life", the studio version? I consider it one of the best, if not the best, Queen track ever. Just a beautififul and perfect love song by Mercury. I know you've reacted to the live version but please check out the studio version as well. Very nice production. The way the voices, the piano and the guitar all mix together. And it sounds so much like classical music. I recommend it! Bye.

      I was thinking that, this is one song thats not easy to sing live because of the backing vocals and yeah he stopped it before it really gets going, it's worth listening to it in it's full, also, I find the studio version better then the live version on this song.

      Too much love will kill you is recorded with Freddies vocal, and later Brian is singing himself. This gives the lyrics two very different meanings, when you know what those guys went through at that time. The despair ... Myself, I prefer May's version.

    Double Dose of Queen (actually a Triple)!!!! Thank you "L". TMG is the most prolific Queen reaction channel. "Who Wants to Live Forever" gets me emotional EVERY TIME. The debate of Live versus Studio is endless. Live you get stripped down raw talent (impressive). In studio you get the genius of their production which is amazing. I enjoy Studio version of Queen performing the best (a la "Save Me", "Who Wants to Live Forever", "Somebody to Love" and "Bo Rhap". By ALL means, keep the doubles coming. Thanks again.

    I remember the rumors back then about "Who wants to live forever" (and I never confirmed if it's true) were the 4 of them were wrecking their heads over that scene of the movie, and Brian was one day in his car thinking about it and trying to place himself on the character's shoes. He thought it would be such a traumatic experience in real life, what the character was going through in that scene and those words came to his mind, "man, who wants to live forever?", and something clicked. He didn't have a piece of paper or even a pencil, so he called his own answering machine and started singing the lyrics of the song.

    If you noticed when Brian was singing, he was straining to project his voice and when Freddie begins singing, he has no problem projecting. Fredie's voice was so powerful.
    Brian is very poetic song writer.
    Freddie would be 72 today and 73 on September 5, that same day as my sister.
    You Take My Breath Away is so beautiful.
    Please do a reaction on the album version, just make sure that you listen to the very end.

    Please please please! Do ‘Old Friends’ by Roger Taylor from his solo work. It was a tribute to Freddie but not really a tear jerker, more of a remember and smile type song. Taylor has a great voice, and he and Freddie were particularly close, especially even before Queen started up.

I do believe Jim calling Freddie and Roger soulmates tho. They had such a similar chaotic energy and such a long history. I also think Roger never got over being too late to see Freddie one last time. Anyway all the Queen bonds make me emotional. Sorry I kind of hijacked your comment! Erm... Who Wants To Live Forever is one of the first Queen songs I remember listening to, it is and always will be a tearjerker for me. You Take My Breath Away is a song I've discovered only recently and it quite literally took my breath away. It is THE love song if you ask me. I was honestly heartbroken when you stopped the studio version just before the part that takes the song to a whole new level, out of this world level, something only Freddie could do with his voice and talent. I hope (for your sake) that you finished listening to the complete song off-screen, you wouldn't want to rob yourself of hearing this extraordinary masterpiece. I do agree that nothing beats hearing Queen live but never assume that they won't surprise you with the studio versions. =)

    I agree, often the live version capture Freddie's emotional delivery, but the studio versions are works of art. if you listen to the rest of You Take My Breath Away, the harmonies (all Freddie!) will give you chills.
    Here's something that I haven't seen brought up in your comments though: can we persuade you to react to Queen songs with headphones? Like good quality over the ear types, not tinny earbuds. Unless you've got a great stereo surround setup (or if you do indeed listen to these songs later on your own time with headphones), you're going to be missing out on some beautiful audio effects that the band took great care in creating. For instance, The Prophets Song. Headphones are a MUST for this one!

    It’s important to know relevance of film to fully understand the songs meaning/lyrics.
    Who wants to live forever is a love song. The Highlander character in the film is immortal & will live “forever” but when he falls in love his wife grows old & dies leaving him shattered hence “who wants to live forever”
    Talking of Freddie’s different vocal styles, check out Gimme the prize (also from highlander...there’s some good unofficial videos out there) totally different vocal style altogether! And a very heavy Queen track.
