    Hi I'm (hopefully) about to start university in Uppsala SLU in Landscape architecture, and I'm just really excited. I thought it would be mostly by computer but they've given us a list of art materials to buy, which are all used by hand. So it seems even the education here is a lot by hand.

    Hello, I am Tawanda from Zimbabwe, I just finished my diploma in Architectural Technology, but along the way I just discovered that, I would feel more comfortable in designing public spaces and has developed a passion in Landscape designing and architecture but the problem comes in that in my country, people rarely value landscape architecture and there are few companies or firms which concentrate in landscape designing. I surely want to explore in this field and what's your advice. Thank you in advance

      @Tawa Kamba don't wait for people in Zim to appreciate landscaping. You have to create the awareness if you're truly passionate about it. Whenever you talk to people, impress upon them the importance of landscaping. You're blessed that in Zim you have a naturally beautiful landscape that you don't need to do much but if you can get involved with organizations that organize design ndabas, fairs, garden shows etc to raise awareness, do so. That will be your contribution. You can also find a university that offers online landscape design courses to see if it's truly something you want to do. With your background in architectural technology, it would be easy to transfer your skills

    I finished my first year studying landscape architecture in the U.S. What would you suggest I can do during my free time to improve my hand drawings? I struggled so much but I enjoyed model making which makes me realize I like the career. What are some things I can work on now that I’m on summer break?

    • @Linescapes
      @Linescapes  Před 4 lety +10

      Hey Michelle! It’s great to hear you’re studying landscape architecture and enjoying it!
      A good idea to improve in drawing is to set a goal for the summer like for example filling up a sketchbook or committing to drawing a sketch every day. It’s more important that you keep doing it than what you draw. This will train your hand and also let you discover the possibilities of drawing.
      If you want to get more technical you can also always start with our basics of drawing series.
      I hope this helps! Ask if you’ll have any more questions 🙂

    I'm trying to decide whether I should pursue LA or Landscape Design. I just wonder how much I need to know about physics and actual architecture to work in the LA field. I'm more of an Artist mind so I think maybe I should just stick to design. I guess maybe I don't know if I'm smart enough for Architecture.

    • @Linescapes
      @Linescapes  Před 4 lety

      Hi Memoriae, before you start deep diving into your thoughts, we suggest that you visit a LA office or two and ask if you can observe their workflow through the day. Ask a lot of questions that are importaint to you. Find homepage of your prefered University and look what kind of work the students produce. Purpose of a landscape architect is creating spaces that are based on creative solution. Projects are always goal oriented, workflow is dynamic, creativity is an importain part of our work.
      Maybe you should also ask yourself what kind of creative expression to you need in order to feel satisfied in your daily life/job. 😊

I'm also doing a master in Project Manager, but I think that this might not be what I really wants to do. So I'm thinking change mi career to landscape architecture. I really loves public spaces and nature, but Can I work like landscape architecture with a bachelor in architecture? Do you recommend me getting education in landscape architecture better?

      @Linescapes  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey! Glad you that you are interested in landscape architecture. It’s a beautiful profession. Yeah, you can work in LA with an architects degree (a person at our office does it), but you’d get far more specific knowledge about the plants and environment through landscapes architecture. So I’d recommend studying that.
      One more tip: visit some landscape architecture offices to really see how work there looks like.
      Good luck! 😊

      Hey Kirti! I would focus on gathering experience at an architecture office. The best way to do this is to apply for internships. Make a portfolio and write at least 50 offices that you find ok and ask for an ainternship. After half a year or something like that, you can ask if they employ you. So be patient, your education will continue even after you finish your diploma.

    Hello amazing tips and video. I am confused on the difference between environmental design and landscape architecture. Because I am currently majoring in architecture as a bachelor Barch but I want to do landscape architecture later on after university. But the only way to do that at my School is to get a masters after 5 years. Is it better to pursue a bachelors of environmental design which is the closest thing in my school to pursue landscape architecture later ? Or stay in the bachelors of Architecture ?

    • @tvs9978
      @tvs9978 Před 2 lety +1

      I would say that Architecture gives you a solid foundation to go into other areas of design. So go ahead with the bachelor's in Architecture then do a masters in Landscape architecture (if you have the funds to do so). It gives you more experience and flexibility for future prospects. You will find that urban design/landscape architecture/environmental design are interrelated and though different universities may call them different things to reflect the particular focus of their programmes, you'll be getting the same knowledge and skills once you go through any such programme
