No, changing signal timings on Hawthorne Blvd is not the solution to traffic on the 405. The solution is viable alternatives to driving. When the K Line and C Line finally connect with the LAX People Mover, that will take thousands of cars off the streets. When the Sepulveda Pass subway gets built, that will take tens of thousands more cars off the 405 each day. There is a well known phenomena that traffic continually gets worse until it's faster to take public transit. In Los Angeles, unfortunately, public transit is very slow. That's why traffic is so bad in LA. The only way to get less traffic is to make public transit faster.

this is the right answer; I have driven in LAX several times now, with traffic so awful people were getting dropped off on the freeway off ramps and walking 4 miles rather than drive. Stuck there myself 4 hours or so. hopefully metrolink and the peoplemover will make it viable for tourists and residents to make it to the airport without rentals ubers or driving themselves.

I would never ride public transportation. It's simply too dangerous. I would be an even bigger target if I was carrying goods or baggage.

The Californians love their cars too much.

@@encinobalboa I've taken the train to LAX several times always carrying a suitcase. Never had an issue. Way safer than driving in LA.

@@mariusfacktor3597 Wow, you made it one time. I've driven L.A. streets 40 plus years. Way safer than getting mugged on public transportation.

The answer is to get rid of carpool lanes.

And make them bus-only lanes to bypass all the traffic? Yes, that would actually get people out of their cars and onto the bus which would lessen traffic.

@@mariusfacktor3597 Nope. Get rid of all carpool, bus, and bike lanes and open then to general traffic. That would benefit the vast majority of people.

@@encinobalboa You have it 180 degrees backwards. There is a well known phenomena that traffic gets worse until it's faster taking public transit. This observation holds true in every city on Earth. Public transit is slow in LA and that's why traffic is so bad here. If you make public transit even slower then traffic will become even worse.
