i'm just deciding now between these bumot and the bmw panniers so this video is a real help thanks 👍
Hey CovertADV, Thanks for the great over view of the new Defender EVOs. I have the (older)Defenders on my 2018 R1200GS Rallye (OEM racks, 45L &41L).
Love them, never got wet, carried everything I needed on my tours... except I had an accident which totaled my bike and damaged the Defenders beyond repair. So I was surfing for info on the EVOs to see if they are made as sturdy. On your video, you show all the detail I was hoping to see. 2 Thumbs Up!!
I have been corresponding with Bumot.eu WRT the differences in the EVO series. They are stronger than the original Defender, having a welded floor on the side case instead of a riveted-and-glued floor. Also, bigger bevels and bigger corner caps that allow bigger straps. The EVO top case comes with the quick release.
Helpful video for sure. My racks arrive tomorrow (same set up as yours). Will be thrilled to finally have a way to haul groceries home!
Word to the wise: be careful when removing the T25 (?) screws while you're removing the OEM reflectors (on the racks), they are easy to strip!
Nice vid....ordering mine soon!!!
Thanks for the nice presentation CovertADV. I came here from ADVrider to find out what size cases you have, which was answered below. I'm thinking of a set of the EVO's like yours, but in black, for my1250 Exclusive with gold rims.
Got my new 2022 BMW R1250 GS Adventure (triple black) today and ordered these cases In black today as well.
Great review, thanks. I was curious how these boxes look on the 1250gsa HP.
I have a 2022 and I’m going this route with the side cases! Thank you for the video!
How did it work out for you? Mine arrive tomorrow and I'm looking forward it with great anticipation--I feel naked riding around as-is!
@@rayfriedman9625 the side cases are great man! No regret at all!
@@donaldlee1427 Received mine today and mounted them right up. They are indeed amazing cases--build quality (and looks) are beyond expectation. Can't wait to take them out on a nice tour--maybe Anchorage?
@@rayfriedman9625 love it let me know your experience man! GS Brothers!
@@donaldlee1427 Just finished installing all the cases and and accessory bag retainers and handles. Between your video and @Nick Hodge, everything came together nicely.
By the way, I bought the black cases and top box to go with my Black 40 Years GSA. Everything fits well and looks great. Best luggage ever. See you down the road!
Great review, you sound like you just smoked some good stuff....ha!
Nice video.... like you I been doing research for my new 2021 GS Adventure when I came across your detailed video.... Thank You very much it was very helpful. I think I am going with the Bumot also!!! Your Bike looks sharp!!! Question though..... can you get a backrest for the top case?
Thank you. Bumot makes a back rest, but I'm not sure if it works with the EVO series. I wouldn't see why not, but it would be best to call Jason over at ADV Motorrad. www.advmotorrad.com/bumot-top-case-back-rest?search=back%20rest
Anyone knows if we can open it with the bigger givi topcase?? One of the problem of my big husky panniers is the lock, in the fisrt month I lose 2complete locks. How are this? Looks strong??
Nice video. Am surprised that you didn’t also get the tool box?
I considered it, however, it was just too small for my needs. I ended up going w/ a cheap-ish Aliexpress knock-off that didn't initially lock properly, but after modifying it has been working well. I keep an air compressor, CO2 cartridges and tool roll in it. It came in very handy on my recent trip down to Baja.
Nice review. I am quite interested in these as well. What size cases did you get? Can you fit a full face helmet in the larger side case? Thanks!
Thank you! The top case is 43L and the panniers are 45/41L. I can fit my XL Scorpion EXO-AT950 helmet with the peak and a Cardo PackTalk BOLD attached in the top case. I haven't tried with the larger side case, I don't think it would fit.
@@covertadv1696 Thanks! I'm undecided between these an the Touratech Zega Pro. I'm curious, what things attracted you to the Bumot?
@@bradb2514 I chose these because the info I found on them led me to believe that they were well-built and stronger than the OEM ones. However, I am by no means an expert on that. One thing that weighed heavily with me was the way the lip sticks up to form a waterproof seal with the thick gasket. I do like the aesthetic of these more than many other aftermarket cases. BTW I did confirm that my helmet will not fit in the side case.
@@covertadv1696 Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it.
In Texas they will give you a ticket if you don't replace those side reflectors with something else on the bags.
Hi.
Thanks for your review. It's great.
After some time with the panniers, anything that could be better or something that is not good?
For instance, the locks seem to me a little bit weak. Are they protected somehow against water and dust?
I do have the OEM Topcase and side panniers and I was considering changing them with these bumot ones, that's why I'm asking.
Regards.
Juan Carlos Alonso Lafuente I haven’t had any issues with the panniers so far. They are performing well, no water intrusions, no issues with dirt or rust.
If I had to nitpick, the only things I wish were that it could they could be keyed to our BMW keys and we didn’t have to buy a custom mounting bracket for the top case.
They are definitely more sturdy than the OEM cases.
@@covertadv1696 Thanks a lot.
I really agree on your two nitpicks.
Do you find that you have more than enough room with the size boxes you bought? I was thinking of going with the 36/41
Yes, these are sized just right for my needs. My primary use case is long rides or camping trips on pavement.
Do the lids open 180 degrees? Can the lids mar the other side if they fully open or is there some type of bumper to stop?
I'm not sure, I don't live in TX. I do recommend checking the local laws there.
How many liters are they? THANKS
Have you found the black is too hot for sensitive contents when compared to Frost or bare Aluminum?
I don't have experience with the Frozen Gray or Bare Aluminum options, but I haven't found an issue with heat with the black option.
How do the top case organizers mount inside the lid?
There are D-ring like components bolt onto the inner corners of the lid which have straps attached to them to hold in the lid organizer. You can see a picture of it here www.advmotorrad.com/#mz-expanded-view-786410643001
I wanted to buy the bags, the pannier racks and the box (later also the trio of rigid suitcases) for the africa twin 1100 adventure sports 2021 but despite the emails sent I did not understand the difference between the two shades of gray because they replied to consult the site . I think for them to sell or not to sell is the same thing. Too bad because I wanted to buy their products but I will have to look elsewhere.
P.S. For example, they could propose to send me pieces of waste from the processing to see the colors well (I would obviously have paid to have the pieces of waste)
My understanding is one is more of a brushed aluminum finish (similar to OEM panniers for some brands such as BMW) while the others are a sleeker gray color. I would personally go for the latter.
What pannier volume size did you choose?
45L/39L panniers, 43L Top Case
Hi, is there enough room for a helmet in the top box?
Yes, my XXL Scorpion EXO AT-950 with peak visor fits in the top box.
@@covertadv1696 Thanks. I got mine. Great piece of kit.
Are those really water , rain proof ?
I haven't had any issues with water so far.
@@covertadv1696 waow you replied so soon I see.
