  • See how easy it is to add initials to a polar fleece hat. The trick is to support the stitches from sinking into the nap of the fleece. Join me as I show you how to use wash away stabilizers to embroider a nice crisp design.

    You’re my kind of embroiderer. Find the least expensive way to accomplish it. I’m returning to machine embroidery after almost 3 years. Very bad case of Covid loss of a daughter and a husband’s cancer battle.

      I am so sorry to hear... sending hugs I do like to find the least expensive way to do things, thank you for embroidering along with me... If you get stuck on something, let me know, maybe I can help!

      @@JSternDesigns I think there’s a way to change the hoop sides on the screen, but I have a brother dream machine so it would be different. I’m teaching my granddaughter how to embroider and sew
      now.

      Thanks Carol! I'm working on a tutorial sharing my top troubleshooting tips for Embroidery Sunday... one of them is what to do when you get a nest of thread under your embroidery! Stay Tuned

    Thanks for this helpful tutorial! Do you have any different suggestions for the topper sheet when using a higher pile? I am embroidering a baby blanket using smooth minky fleece. TIA!

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Před 3 lety

      You definitely want to use a topper for Minky... If you have the "baste in the hoop" feature, do that too... It will keep the topper in place and allow the stitches to settle on the surface.

    I have sulky solvy wash away for the topper but do not have the wash away mesh.
    Is there a substitute as I am just practicing and learning my machine. But I will using a lot of Fleece. l sew Baby blankets and make them 2 layers sided. Printed on one side and plain on the back side. I would like to embroider the name on the single layer plain fleece the same kind you use for your baby hats. I have some tear and cut away for lightweight, medium and heavy weight.
    Also, I have some different software for making the monogram and lettering, as the fonts are limited that come with my machine. Is there any particular one that is good for making lettering. or that you used for your lettering projects
    Thank you.
    I hope that you will answer soon as I am anxious to start my practice projects.

      :) If you're going to embroider on a single layer, then back it with a second piece of fleece, you can use medium tearaway stabilizer in the hoop. Basting around the design to hold the solvy topper, fleece and tearaway together will help keep the fleece in place. Then tear away as much of the stabilizer as you can before putting the blanket together. For embroidery software, I work with Pfaff's Premier + 2 Embroidery Ultra. It's a complete program that does everything from digitizing, letters, customizing etc. If I can't find the font I like, I digitize it from scratch from a .jpg of the fonts. You can also find lots of really nice monograms and lettering online. Here's a link to one of my favorites! bling-sass-sparkle.myshopify.com Hope this helps! Happy New Year

      @@JSternDesigns Thank you so much. I am a teacher so only sew on my vacations. I am new to embroidery but not to sewing. I am going to try your suggestion this week end. Let you know how it works out!

    What needle do you use for fleece?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Před 3 lety

      I'm using a Universal size 14 needle. The surface of the fleece is "protected" by the wash away topper, so I didn't need a stretch needle.
