  • A quiet walk around the prairie before the sun fully rises. It's been humid lately. The dew looks more like rain on the grasses. The rattlesnake master (Eryngium yuccifolium) flower heads, with their spiked ball tops steal my attention today. A preview of yellow cone flowers are starting to open. These two are my current favorites of all the prairie plants, if I am allowed to have favorites. The bees are enjoying the bee balm. Found some little hoary vervain, tall clumps of liatris (one short one in full bloom), and little patches of black-eyed susan nestled in some shorter sections.
