  • I made this video a couple years ago. I found this 1982 Honda C70 Passport (70cc Super Cub) for free on Craigslist. I fix the fuel system, replace the tires, rebuild the carb, rewire the cluster, fix the speedometer, adjust the brakes, and clean it up to sell.

    Straight down the line you found everything typically wrong with these bikes when they don’t work but fixed they run well. What a fortunate find. Your are a good mechanic. I have one of those and had the exact same issues but mine is the old 6 volt system.

      It was super weird. It's the first thing I check if I'm having fuel delivery issues now haha. There was more in the stack just can't see from the angle.

    Nice classic bike! It looks like whoever worked on it before you tried to run it without a battery, as the battery is used as a kind of voltage regulator on these bikes, so without it you will blow the bulbs. Thanks for the video 👍🇦🇺

    *'Ready for sale...uh...WHAT!?!?* *WHAT?* *'SALE?'* *NONONONONO!*
    __________
    *You get a 'Classic Honda'...fix what some idiot kid did to it...get it 'purring' the way it's supposed to...put some nice shine on it the way it should ALWAYS look...and then 'make a few bucks'*
    *That Honda is 'CAF' and causes instant envy wherever it goes...not to mention it's pretty damned fun to ride on and will NEVER lose value but appreciate all the time you have it*
    __________
    *I turned-down $1,500 cash for my '08 'Metropolitan' in gloss-black and grey last Sunday when I went shopping...that's $350 more than I paid for it 5+ years ago!*
    *I need $$$ the same as everyone else...but my 'Precious' is 'NFS' and 'goes w/the house' when I croak my last croak' because it's the most reliable machine I've ever owned in 68yrs. of life and that includes my first 'motor' of any kind, the '68 90 'Super Cub' I got new for my 14th. B-day from my G-rents*
    ( *Factory engine/exhaust w/a few minor performance mods and 14"-inch windscreen gives it 42-mph on a level road even w/my 230lbs of fat ass on the enormous 'Barco Lounger' saddle* )

    Oh man, I had that vented gas cap issue on an CL175 a few years ago, it died driving it home from the seller's house, stranded me deep in the valley at night, so I let it sit, then it would work fine, then die a couple mins later. Turns out he had the 'California' cap on the tank, no hole on top, so I loosened it a smidge and the thing ripped. Good catch!

      Such a strange source for a fuel starvation problem isn't it? Now it's something that's burned into my memory.

    Super cool. I'm going to tackle a very similar garage paperweight this spring (83 Passport C70) that I've had for 5 years. I printed out the manual like you did. Minimal mechanical experience (can change the oil, filters & wheels in my car). Any recommendations or pearls of wisdom?

    • @10mm
      @10mm  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmm well definitely check that your tank cap vents, that gave me all kinds of hell trying to tune it haha. make sure it's got oil before you try to start it. make sure the tank isn't full of rust before you fill it up then that gunk clogs up the carb.

    Wow. $100. I have 2 Passports not nearly as complete or nice that aren't running. Maybe I should toss them in the trash or part them out.
    Edit: Oh. That was a stack of bills. Makes me feel better about spending time to get mine running again. My plans had a snag in that my Passports were stolen but then recovered. I lost many parts I had collected as the thieves got those too but they did not come back to me.
