Gotta say, Josh's first guess at "hits different" is actually what it means... I guess GenZ have butchered it and now use it in a weird way that makes no sense "it exceeded expectations"??. LOL. That doesn't even make sense. A good example of "hits different" would be like rewatching an old movie from your childhood... as a grown up, understanding the movie better, the story, plot, subtext, themes, characters and their motivations, etc... the movie "hits different" now.... compared to when you were a kid.
That's my intepretation and understanding of the expression too. For me, when something hits different, it's when I revisit a song, album or a movie and it can feel like it hits different because you relate to it in a different way to how you did when you were younger or in the wake of something that has happened that has directly to do with said song/album/movie and it hits different because of that when you revisit the material.

Josh def still got the it hits different term correct.This movie sucked so bad though.After this movie M.Knight needs to give up writing.I’ve stuck up for him and his writing skills with the last few movie’s he made.However,this was basically just a film about a Rock Concert that happened to have a serial killer in the audience.I would give it 2 star out of 10,but that’s if it was written by a regular writer not one that’s known for unique twists,turns,and unexpected surprises.For M.Knight I give it a big fat 0!!!! I think Mr.Knight should def retire after this flop/dude.
Hubs and I loooove it. Night said it would be unlike anything he’s done before so after the trailers we were up for a laugh. He delivered and Josh killed the role. Preposterous concept, 1,000 improbabilities, over the top exaggerated split personality moving from killer to daddy, hilarious dialogue. I don’t get the negatives. We bought it VOD and preordered the dvd. It is a fun movie!
