  • I open up this kenmore 500 clothes washer to discover why it was full of water and not pumping. Something was stuck in the pump impeller, I removed it and solved the problem!

    Thank you! You saved me a bill! Just an FYI to everyone else, the amount of water that WILL drain is the amount of water that is in the washer. I recommend removing as much water as you can before doing this. For what ever reason I figured there was some sort of stopper and the only water that would come out was the water in the hose. I was wrong. Luckily I had a bucket nearby and caught most of the water! Thanks again!

    With this broken washer, when the timer got to the drain cycle, was there just silence and the timer wouldn’t move? Or did you hear any noise as the drain pump tried to do its job? I have silence and I am about to do this procedure, but I wonder if it is the switch instead.

      @@crystalcorrales1214 After you figure out the position of the clips that pop out when you lift off the switch panel, you can position them back the same way and it just snaps back on. From memory a year ago. I have no kids here, so I just bypassed the switch, essentially connecting the two wires to the switch together. This way, the washer will go through the cycles with the lid up or down. Basically defeating the safety. But again, No kids here and I know not to stick my hands in when it is spinning.

    • @FixerMerlin
      @FixerMerlin  Před rokem

      Interesting. If there’s power at the plug you could test to make sure the washer cord and plug or a connection haven’t failed somehow. It seems unlikely but I’d confirm there’s power to the timer. Check that something hasn’t come unplugged or disconnected. Check the lid switch!!
      Maybe the timer switch just decided to call it quits. If you’re comfortable with such things then test if the timer is allocating power to the the associated downstream connections as per the cycle demands. This could be done with a voltage tester or with the power off using a continuity meter, take precautions and don’t get yourself electrocuted.. if that’s what it is they’re not cheap but can be found locally or online for a reasonable price and are basically plug and play.
      If power is confirmed
      getting to the motor when it is called for in the cycle then maybe motor is fried. Hard to tell, but in that case it might make a humming noise or smell like burning wires. Those are a few things you could test for. Be careful when working with electricity be safe and if you’re not comfortable just call the repairman.
      Good luck and Sorry for writing a Novel, I’m highly caffeinated and ready to fix something 🤣
