The unit checked was an old R-22 Ruud System. Blue side should read between 70-75psi. & red side should read between 235 - 275psi. Keep in mind the temperature of the space being cooled was already 69°F so you suction or blue side gauge can be a little bit lower in the 65psi range.

Very nice video without too much theory...You gave us those normal measurements and red lines that we are not supposed to cross. Thank you...

Actually your head pressure will be relative to the outdoor ambient. On an older 22 system, add 30 degrees to the actual temperature and then look for the corresponding head pressure for that number. For example, it's 90 outside. Add 30 degrees; now it's 120. Find the corresponding pressure for 120. That should be your head roughly. I would expect 250 for an 80ish summer day, as high as 300 for a blistering summer day. On 410, add 15-20 to the actual temp outside.

Thanks for an easy to understand and informative video. My 41 year old Rudd has a chart on the compressors cover shield that tells what my high side pressure should be at various ambient temperatures. I can also tell if it's getting low on 22 if the return line no longer gets as cold. Seems everything was simpler in the old days!😂

Also 71 psi suction looks good, but without knowing RA temp, SA temp, subcooling and superheat, I don't know if it's a good number or not. If it's 90 in the house right now, 71 is probably a problem. Without those other numbers, you're flying the plane without all the controls

How did you get 71 on the low side. Looks like 64 to me.

Very good information one question ❓ please it's an R22 system did you change the mineral oil or did you just replace the R407c with the mineral oil let me know because I have one to change over

No need to change the oil with 407c it works with mineral oil.

Is R407c a popular alternative which does not require a retrofit of R22 system? Are there any other alternatives which behave like R407c?

Change oil with 407 C (I think), however, the latest is 422B, same oil, better to recover whats left of 22, then add in 422B, 90% of original required , then tweak. I understand dthe orifice may have to be enlarged slightly, most Techs say no, but they're kind of lazy and reay to get out of there. One tech said he has added some 422B on the 22, without any problems, but remember the theory is there is 'no' top off's refrigerant. Study on 422B.
