- In this how-to, we walk you through hooking up your EAZ LIFT 48069 1200 lbs Elite Kit weight distribution hitch between our 3500 Chevrolet tow vehicle and our Jayco 32bhds travel trailer. This EAZ-Lift kit takes about an hour and a half to install, and I would recommend watching this video ( • How To Set up A Weight... ) for installation. We had our dealership install these for us, and we are glad they did.
Pulling with the EAZ Lift 1200 weight distribution hitch really does make a difference when you are on the highway or even open country roads. With a trailer that is our size, we can feel the sway of our trailer when vehicles pass us in either direction, but it is not nearly as bad as it would be without these sway bars. Hooking it up is easy, and you can see that even though there is heavy weight, my wife was able to get in and help as well.

To make it easier to hook the chains: After you hook up to your ball, raise the trailer and it will also raise the back of your truck until it's easy to put the chains on. It will also let you know that you have the ball hitched properly.
We learned this very quickly. This is a great tip! Pinning to top.
If you don’t make the chains tight enough, your sway bars will drop down and drag down the road
Hey bud, nice video. FYI though, two things I want to mention, if I may. I have this same hitch and you don't actually need to have the round bars towards the truck to install them. Just put them in the hitch and pull up hard on them, they will snap right in. To remove them, you turn them towards the truck to release the lock tab. Second, your safety brake cable needs to be connected to the truck, not the chain. If your trailer comes loose and the chain stays intact, it will never pull the cable. If the cable is connected to the truck and the trailer breaks loose, the cable will pull and set the brake when the trailer separates. My cable has a c-clip that attaches to the same loop that the chain hooks to on the truck receiver.
This is a great tip for anyone here. I did read about this and I should have mentioned all this. Thank you for the comment.
I can’t get mine to snap in place any suggestions
I have a hell of a time getting them to click in....any tips or tricks
@@GoldieJoRv I keep mine lightly greased. Also, put one hand under the bar, close to the hitch, the other hand farther out towards the end. I lift up with the closer hand, while slightly wiggling the hand farther out. Give that a try and let me know how it goes.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I just purchased an RV that came with this exact weight distribution hitch w/ sway control, so very helpful!
Glad I could help!
I had this system on my 2013 primetime LaCrosse 34’ trailer towed with a Chevy 3500. It towed like a dream.
Ty. I needed a refresher. Hadnt used one in 3 decades. Just bought a 30 foot rv trailer and easy lift system
Good video. Very informative. I just came home with my new travel trailer with the exact weight distribution hitch and sway bar ( EZA Lift 1,000 lb kit ). The RV Dealer gave me a quick demo but your video really covers the fine detail points. Many Thanks !! Peace ...
The more you use it the more comfortable you will be. We recommend hooking it up and disconnecting it a few times as practice, no matter how much time it takes! The last you think you want is to be at a campground with EVERYONE watching you!
Thank you!! Dealership didn't go through it with me. Trying to figure out how to get it off was hard and I was worried about putting it on. I think I can figure it out now with your video!!
Glad it helped!
Bought a different weight distribution hitch but was confused with how to mount the chain supports.. this cleared it up! Thank you!
Welcome 👊🏻
That was a great video explanation everything I needed to know! Happy camping 🏕. 😎👍
Excellent video. Bought a panther RV today with this Same away bar. It helped me 100% safe travels my friends
Same to you!
At 8:10, you are supposed to position the extra links below the pin before you raise the handle. You don't smash the extra link between the pin and the top link. You are also supposed to make sure the links are straight and not twisted to prevent binding.
Thanks for sharing this video it was really informative as I have never used a sway control hitch. Happy Camping!!!
Thank you!
Great Video. My brother just got this hitch and has no idea how to install it, so I am glad I found this video. One thing though, the trailer emergency brake cable needs to physically attach to the truck bumper. If you attach it the way you did, it will just come off the truck with the safety chain and not release the brake.
This is true, and a valuable comment. Pay attention to your brake cables!
Good video. I've been trying to find some info on how to install my setup. Thanks for sharing.
Any time!
Heart Wins! Nicely done explanations all around!!
❤🏆
Good video.
FYI- the Emergency Brake Wire needs to have a little less slack then your Safety Chain to work properly.
The Sway Brake can be tightened up more but it's recommended to loosen it up before backing up.
Happy Trails
We have learned this and remember being told that many times. Luckily we never drove without having it properly in place. A good reminder though! Thanks for watching!
your video is great, easier to follow than some academic one. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice the camper I just bought has this set up thanks for the help 👍🏽
You are welcome!
Great video guys. It’s gonna help me remember.
Good to hear! Good luck.
You should check the thickness of your trailer's frame. If it is made with 1/8th steel, you may want to have it reinforced. The amount of additional force and stress the WDH applies to it is huge - especially when your front axle starts up a plane or ramp. Remember, a WDH spreads the load from the rear axle to the truck's front axle AND the trailer's axles.
I’ve been doing mine all wrong! Thank you
It’s possible you’ve figured this out by now. But you don’t have to start with the bars forward. They can be pointed back at the trailer. You just have to give them a good “snap” up into place. Keeping them greased will help. Nice vid.
We figured a lot out by now with this hitch, like raising the trailer up high to get everything to fall into place. I looked like a goof at the campgroung trying to get the trailer to catch the ball. If it seems hard, you are doing something wrong I figure out.
Thank you
Very interested this video
Greetings from MD USA
Yeah ty. I just installed mine myself. Im fat, old, retired and did it ok. Its not difficult. I just came on to see if i missed a step. Ty much. The system is slightly different than in the 70s and 80s but not much.
Welcome!
Thank you. I have to install one of these in the morning before our first camping trip. Hoping I don’t screw this up.
Take your time! Good luck. Be safe.
S'more RV Fun Thanks. Can you tell me why I would need to angle the ball on the hitch like it shows in the manual?
@@joshdigh8307 I wondered this myself. Here's what I found on a towing forum:
The hitch ball angle adjustment on weight distribution systems is designed to provide more or less distribution of the tongue weight on your trailer hitch to the trailer and vehicle axles. If you adjust the ball angle farther away from the towing vehicle, you will angle the weight distribution spring bars down toward the ground and that will distribute more weight. Angling the ball forward towards the towing vehicle puts less angle on the spring bars and therefore less weight is distributed.
Great info, thanks, you got me out of a jam!
Good to hear!
Abolutly so helpful. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Awesome video my guy
Appreciate it
Check out the Jen Y hitch set up takes the shock out
Equalizer/Fastway and many others now have sway control built in. Not sure why so many are still using this antiquated style with the cumbersome add-on sway bar that has to be loosened or removed to make sharp turns or back up. Much simpler setup and no need to remember "how many links".
Love it thank you
Thank you, nice video.
Welcome!
Thank you so much
Very informative.
Thank you!
I just want you to k ow this helped alot.
Appreciate that. Happy camping!
I have that set up, mines settles into the 6th link when ready so they all can be a little different
We ended up on the fouth link after a few times using it. Everything is variable for sure!
Great family vid, too! I loved that you made a couple of real-life flubs. I have done all of those things! I have never completely installed one before but am gonna try this time. How do you measure between the truck and the mounting plates on the tongue? Thanks!
You will want to read the instructions based on the distribution hitch you buy. It has a lot to do with the wheel well to the ground. Just triple measure everything.
Also, the placement of the plates on the trailer frame is where the chains hang straight down towards the bars. So, in other words, clip your bars in, swivel them towards the frame, raise the trailer to where the truck and trailer are both level to the ground. Then, pull the chains up in a straight, vertical line. Wherever the hook on the plate lines up with the chain, that's where you attach them to the trailer frame. Hopefully I explained that clearly? I think that's what you were asking?
thanks!
No problem!
Your safety brake cable should never be attached to the safety chains but rather to a part of the tow vehicle itself. Research it for yourself. Happy Safe Travels
This is a debatable point. My thought is if this 10,000lb trailer lets loose, that brake is getting pulled. I tripped over the cable once and it came flying out. I've heard it both ways though, this is my preference.
Watching her try shows my problem 😂
Don’t put wires through the pin. It has the chance of pulling the pin out 🧐
So I have the same hitch but I need to install the sway control bar got a video for that? And I have a 31ft camper can I use just one sway bar or do I need both sides? Thanks for you help
We honestly let the dealership drill the bar in for us. I'd recommend this if you do not have a good hammer drill to get through the frame, plus they will do it properly. The last thing I want to be responsible for is not having drilled that right while flying down the freeway. If your question is about the sway bar control, it only has one to install and that is all you need. If you are talking about the distribution bars, you will need both of those when traveling. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the demonstration. Just curious how much your trailer dropped the rear end of your 3500 without the distribution hitch?
We never hooked up the trailer without this hitch on there. The tongue weight of the trailer is around 650lbs so it has quite a bit, but there is no sag.
where did you go to get the hitch initially configured? you mentioned it came in pieces and that you initially put it together loosely. new to the diesel/pulling scene and would like to get it put together at a shop, if needed. great video, btw. buying my eaz lift hitch right now!
Our dealer put it together. Ask yours, they should
They installed the washers for the two bolts that secure the hitch to the L insert incorrectly. One of the washer is supposed to be opposing
Very thorough and helpful. Is the sway controller really necessary though?
Depends on the size of your trailer. On our 40 footer, I'd say yes. I use it on freeway stretches.
Question. Do you have lots noise when driving. Do you grease any parts. If so which ones.
The only time you hear noise is on turns if you have the sway control turned way up. That's natural, and we recommend that when you get into a city area you turn the sway control down to allow the brake to move freely. It's not a pleasant noise at all when you are driving so you will hear it. Sounds like a loud cracking noise! To your question though, we haven't greased anything and you SHOULD NOT grease the sway control.
Need to get rid of the 2 inch receiver shim. Go buy the correct size receiver
Important comment here. We have upgraded the truck and added the correct receivers.
Never hook emergency break cable in the same spot as your chains. Other than that not bad.
We learned this after making this, but important tip.
Aint you supposed to hook that break cable to the ball . ??????
2:37 "Your ball hair"
haha.
How many chain links do you go up on each side? I don't want to be too loose or low with it. Thanks
Great question! It really depends on your setup. We typically go 3 chain lengths, but sometimes we go to a 4th. The trick is to make sure you have the trailer jacked up as high as you can when you are connecting the chain. It should be easy to connect and lock into place. As you lower the jack, the chains will be really tight with no slack. When you are taking them off, be sure to have the trailer raised high again because they will snap down and could really injure you. It shouldn't be hard to disconnect them. Also, remember that if you are getting on the highway to increase your brake tension, we typically pull over and tighten it when getting on the on-ramp and then loosen when we get into a city area or somewhere we will be making a lot of turns. Good luck!
Where is the tentinor bar i see its not on the trailer or hitch . Do you not leave it on when on the road
I think you are referring to the brake, which we forgot to put on and the video at the end shows it off, but in the middle you see us putting it on. We defiantly keep it on when traveling - it makes a huge difference.
And this is why CZcams should have certificates required to post How To's
👀
Hey bud, yours is the 1000 lb, not the 1200 lb.
Well huh.
Has to be an easier way, my god
You get better at it with use. If we made this same video now, we probably would update a few things but we would be much quicker at it.
Thanks for making the video, but the audio sounds awfully quiet and muffled
Thank you for watching. We are working on our camera / audio setup. Good feedback 👍
The 1K rating is for when you have the weight transferring bars attached. Without them you can only run 600 lbs of tongue weight. In your case, don't try to haul the trailer without the bars. It's too much weight.
Hahahahaa that’s what she said
👀
Get yourself a hitch immobilizer so you don’t have so much play on that hitch shank.
I think you should leave how to videos to people that know how to.
OMG, thank you for your feedback! We will definitely take this into consideration as we continue to make videos as amateurs on a free video service that you have the choice to watch, skip, believe or not believe. We will leave the how to's to the how toer's. Thanks for watching, happy trails!
Your right , I won't watch them anymore. My choice. @@smorervfun
👊
Two things, to much chain and you top like was twisted
This is an important comment. Assuming you mean too many links hanging off above where we hooked too. I would mention that you want to test and figure out how many chains give you the right amount of tension while you are towing. Three links up for us seems to be the right amount.
Terrible audio but good info
Ummmm this is NOT the correct way to set this up.
How do you adjust for a 5" drop down to trailer?
@@ImOddTodd you need a shank that will allow for that height differential.
Can we just enjoy an attractive female?
One of the things I can’t stand about you tube... learn how to do it then show a video. Iv been hauling for a while with a weight distribution kit and I wouldn’t suggest this video to anyone
Robrun B Then How About Make A Video On How You Would Do It.
Sorry you feel this way, however, we towed all season no issues with this setup. Thank you for your feedback!
I think it’s great that he pointed out his mistake. Why? To err is human and mistakes will be made. I appreciated the video myself being a newbie and all.👍🏼
What he said. This video is not correct!
It's a feel good video - but definitely some gaps and inaccuracies. Example: the hitch head may have a max rating of 14,000 lbs but your setup is limited by the springbars which have a max rating of 1,000 lbs, as pointed out by your wife. To be fair - you need a good grasp of physics and engineering to explain weight distribution.
