    What nobody seems to be saying is how you're developing a pretty consistent UX language for music theory with your player devices that's approachable for just about anybody. This is really cool. Every time I get my grubby paws on one these things I feel like a caveman who just discovered a jetpack.

      I'm not particularly "skilled" when it comes to making music, other than my ears knowing when something sounds good vs not. These tools make it a lot easier to get from "sounding like crap" to something listenable. It's so rewarding to be able to express myself musically, given that it was entirely impossible pre computer era.

    I've been using the Scales & Chords player for chords sequences for years now and it taught me loads. But just recently I got to the point where I often want to go outside of diatonic chord sets.. then this player arrives. It looks like a dream come true!

    • @overseastom
      @overseastom Před 2 lety

      I don't know much about music theory and this player definitely looks fun to use, but I thought you could *already* pick other types of scales in the Scales & Chords player, by just using the roll-down where you can select Lydian, etc. Am I missing the meaning of your comment somehow?

    • @Kaitain
      @Kaitain Před 2 lety +1

      @@overseastom Yes, that dropdown is for the scales, but it doesn't affect the chords so much. The chords are still largely diatonic I think. I've been watching David Bennett's excellent videos about chord sequences recently (czcams.com/users/DavidBennettPianovideos), and I noticed how many chord sequences there are that Scales & Chords can't do without going in and editing lots. It looks like this player could do any of those chord sequences.

    I've been in love with Reason since 2.5.
    I tried some other DAWs, but those were just meaningless one-night stands.

      Nah, Reason never produced devices such as this for free for existing licence holders. The idea of getting everything new that's released is a significant part of the reason why someone would want to pay the subscription cost. So as a licence hold, I'm OK with paying for a device like this. Especially one of the Reason-produced Players - they're uniformly excellent devices, and with Reason as a Plugin, you get all this goodness in your favourite DAW...

    Yeah super cool - Chords and Scales is great but tricky when you need to break out of key. This solves that problem nicely. Some tips!
    - Sequence your chords and then change chord sets for unexpected results
    - If you're triggering your chord changes by MIDI, you can use the F8 tool box to Alter the notes and get unexpected progressions
    - Quad Note Generator in chromatic mode (with a limited note range) can auto-generate random progressions from the selected chord set.
    - One for the patch-heads; you can feed all your chord changes (including custom edits) to multiple Player stacks by using CV Player Tap (free). Just put one directly underneath Chord Sequencer, and one at the top of the target Player Stack, and connect all 16 Gate/Note Outs, to Ins. You can go from the Outs of the second CV Player Tap, into a third, fourth, fifth, etc.

    Seeing this, I love it, but I immediately have a feature request: I'd love for it to have a CV note cable for 3rd, 5th, and... maybe some other. While this could be done manually by bouncing the MIDI and editing it, of course, having these separated to other instruments would make it drastically easier to do 4-part writing, or orchestrating for strings, or wind sections for that matter.

    • @Milan____
      @Milan____ Před 2 lety +1

      Actually, now that I think about it, that would be great as a separate Player, since I've had this "problem" also with Dual Arp, Lectric Panda's Evolution and Aggregate, and PolyStep too. It would be very useful as a player, but also have its uses if it came as a feature in the (DAW) sequencer.

However, I reinstated it with the intro of the baseline generator, which when combined with the various drum tools and players is pretty good. This addition looks super exciting. I still want Reason to address its woeful MIDI interface, but I will give credit where its due.
