mate, I think I was 16 or something.. When Di Canio scored that goal with Wimbledon we talked about it continuously for weeks in Italy. I remember me playing with my mates 5 a side and trying to replicate the same shot every time I was going for goal lol. Now fast forward 20 years, I live in London and I am going to attend the Bournemouth game next Monday at London Stadium wearing a Di Canio top..

It seems such a long time ago that I forgot how brilliant he was. Almost every goal he scored is amazing … even his penalties was an art form. Without a shadow of doubt, he is the best player we had in the last 20 years. Boy could we do with him today...
Best finisher I've ever seen for West Ham, so composed, such incredible technique, his temperament meant that we at West Ham could enjoy his brilliance, because on talent alone he could have played for absolutely anyone.
For me he will always be the greatest legend to ever pull a WHU shirt over his head, absolutely love the bloke and he is a great person to meet in person too especially when he finds out you a WHU fan.
As a Lazio fans, i always have feeling of kinship with West Ham, because this man mostly, i grew up being told he was one of our best youth player ever besides Nesta, and how respectful he was to Laziale, even help us alot when we are down in his later years, what an icon for both clubs..
That man played with passion and fire wanted to get amongst it and play the dirty hard side of football, that’s what the prem is missing , players now don’t grab the game by the scruff of the neck and battle it out paulo was an asset to the game of football “top man respects”

I've been watching football for over 20 years and seen a lot of great players, and played a lot of footie myself. I remember this guy because of that insane goal we've all seen b4. I would simply point you to the 4:03 penalty goal. All the very best players can pull that off, like Pirlo, Zidane. Takes immense composure. Di Canio was real, real quality. Also those two unbelievable goals against Arsenal. He was the kind of player who knew he was better than most others, and that's why he performed so well against really top teams like United. He must have been a real concern for most teams who faced WEST HAM. From that era I'd say he was right up there as one of the very best strikers of the Premier League. Would have been a great signing for United, Liverpool or Arsenal.

Quite simply the best and most talented player I’ve ever seen in the flesh at Upton Park regardless of the shirt. Bearing in mind his competition includes Bergkamp, Henry, Giggs, Zola, Hazard, Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Payet & Salah to name just a few that’s pretty high praise. Let’s face it West Ham only got him because he was damaged goods after the Alcock incident but it was only his reputation. A simply incredible player worth the price of admission himself.
