    Thank you for recognizing that not every song has to be deep and heavy with meaning for BTS to be good artists. This song was exactly what we needed at the time it was released, just like Dynamite and LGO. As usual, love everything you have to say about the music and you say it so well!

    I don’t understand why so many people don’t like this song….I love it!! It’s such a happy song and u can tell the guys loved performing it! I also love this UN performance, they did such a great job with barley enough sleep!

  • @imajinallthepurple
    @imajinallthepurple Před 9 měsíci +52

    The lyrics may be on the light side for BTS but if you dive into the MV it's so well thought out and it's stuffed with easter eggs as well:
    - The pancake reference to Butter of which single PTD is the b-side.
    - Their debut date on the window as a phone number, the headlines on Jimin's magazine, the writing on Suga's piano,....
    - They/the laundromat represent water in the middle of the dessert.
    - They're sending out a purple beacon of hope to ARMY in the form of balloons. And as we know ARMY consists of all ages, genders, races, etc.
    - The clothes in the washing machines in Spring Day represented death/lost loved ones but this time they're filled with purple balloons representing hope and life.
    - The sign in the office saying disABILITY and the sign language in the choreography (PTD was released for ARMY's birthday but July is also Disability Awareness Month)
    ........and so much more. So while PTD is often dismissed as shallow they actually put a lot of thought into it. It's not my favourite BTS song but I still think it's highly underrated. 🤷‍♀️
    Regarding the UN, they flew from South Korea to New York, went straight to makeup, filmed in the middle of the night and early morning, rested while the video was edited and then gave their speech and showed the video. I would. Be. Dead.! 😵
    💜

    I LOVE the PTD MV!! So much to see and love!! Suga and Hobi! JK’s Spin! Jimin. Yeh, Jimin! The message of the song. The handsomeness! The outfits! I love the song. Too many people rag on the English songs, but they absolutely have their purpose and place in the BTS discography!
    Just because it’s not someone’s favorite it’s not lesser than any of their other songs. I’m not a fan of Spring Day. But that doesn’t make it a bad song. I’m just tired of people saying that the English songs are not good because they aren’t Korean. BTS goes 100% in ALL of their work.

  • @KathyHussey063

    They were hurting inside too during covid's worst months, unable to even perform live which gives them joy, when they decided to do this song MOSTLY because their creativity, their joy in music was hampered by the depressing state of the world, the effects the pandemic was having on their lives, on ARMYS lives to and a bit of burn out in so far as creating music went. Not surprising after the humongus catalogue of amazing music they'd put out for over 8 or 9 years, Their lives had been turned upside down & they were spending a lot of time alone, for the 1st time in many many years.
    In Monuments Suga talked about the emotional/mental struggles they all too were going through and thank goodness somehow the 3 English songs came to them & they were for CHEERING UP Armys, cheering up themselves and the world; saying 'we can still dance no matter where we are or if even we are alone in quarantine." and they got a lot of success from these songs, they are great in concerts with fans too.

    I am waaaay older than majority of Army; this particular performance is where I “found” BTS. Imagine. The hallowed setting; the sound, the camera work; the beauty of these young men who I had never even heard of! The pure joy of the song. There is also a video of the making of this performance video, which is pure delight. There was no going back after as I began exploring the notorious “rabbit hole” that is BTS’ discography. It’s been a great adventure for me; even took my grandsons with me to the Vegas PTD concert. This mv as a particular place in my heart; so glad you appreciated it as well.

    the hate towards this song is so forced imo it's a fun song with a beautiful message that makes you feel happy when you listen to it and they clearly enjoy and have so much fun when they perform it too, and the use of sign language in the choreo is such a beautiful gesture too, there are many clips of sign language interpreters who were doing this song for several events (including this un performance) and the genuine smile that appears on their faces when they see that part is so precious 💜

    I think alot of ppl hated this song because it's in English which I find pretty sad and miserable because the guys clearly embraced the message and made a beautifully moving video and statement with this song, bringing all people togetber. The guys are artists, they had a every right to express or do whatever sound they wanted but a lot of their fans are so possessive of them. It's so annoying lol

  • @jeeexscomet

    I love PTD so much! Loved it on first listen, and continue to. It reminds me of my childhood in the best way. The boys look sooo happy performing it every time, from the dance practice to TV shows and concerts. It's the perfect concert closer too, because its so bright and happy, and everyone leaves happy instead of sad that the concert is over. And most of all, I love how it highlights BTS' versatility so so well. These are the same boys who do intense hiphop and songs like Fake Love and ON, but PTD and Boy with Luv, Dynamite match them perfectly as well. I've never seen anyone covering these songs who's been able to capture the charm and genuine joy BTS emit while performing these songs either. They're just so well rounded and you can tell they genuinely love all their songs they've released.

    I love PTD so much, I become an ARMY when this era was in her peak... Everything was so fun, watching all the concerts after the pandemic, I still remember my first online concert and their first concert with army after 3 years "PTD in Seoul" and it was only allowed to clap😭😂 It was a little sad and confusing but also fun, the members laughed so much because the clapping was aggressive😂💜
    I also LOVE Taehyung in this song, his charisma, his idea of sign language to the song (he's been using this for years before PTD, he knows how to use it, so sweet), in the concerts he spends so much time dancing, laughing and hugging every person in the stage, the dancers, the members, the live band hshdvd
    I think Tae was in his happy era when this song was released and for that he become my bias, he had to be, that happy and sweet boy make me fall in love with BTS💘🐻

    When you were talking about their energy and charisma in the UN performance I was thinking: wait till you watch the footage behind. If I remember correctly they were practicing and filming in in the middle of the night and early in the morning right after getting off the plane. They're amazing. 🤯
    And I looove PTD so much, it makes me feel warm and happy, like a little ray od sunshine. I remember watching the premiere and crying right after (because when they released it in the summer of 2021 the world was just waking up again and the song held sooo much meaning at that time to me.
    I will never tolerate the English trilogy slander. The songs are genuinely good and still more meaningful than most recent kpop songs. And they worked so hard to give us everything they could before going on hiatus, even the Permission to Dance tour. It was short but the tour and the whole Butter/PDT era was so wholesome, really one of the happiest periods of my life thanks to them 😭💜

    Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Love this song. So fun! They killed it. So impressed. They looked great. So many details not in the MV. Love it. JK looks great with this hair style. Jimin killed his parts. Jin was so cute! Gosh. V was hot as usual. The rap line singing was beautiful! RM really surprised me. That was so fun. I adore Hobi's silver short hair. Vmin moment warmed my heart. SOPE moment thrilled me. It's just a great song u know. Yes, I like Butter better but I also like this one too. =0)Bang PD and the new CEO are part of the staff at the end dancing with BTS. So cute! And someone on Twitter I think said they are being ironic with the clothes. Their basically saying is this western enough for u? lol. Their humor is really something all right, lol. Plus the hip thrust in the MV, sheesh, Lol. The "Permission to Dance" music video features performances using international sign language. So glad u spotted that. Not many do. It means 'joy', 'dance', and 'peace'. The gesture that seems to scratch the body with the thumb extended and the rest of the fingers bent means "joyful." The movement of two fingers of the other hand from side to side using one palm as a stage means "dancing." Finally, making a V with two hands is a symbol of 'peace'. The guys gave these songs to us to ease covid days. They wanted us to sing and dance. They did this to lighten our days and that means so much more to me. I hate that ppl misunderstand them. Hugs. Stay safe! #YouAreEnough --NY USA 2019 Army💟
    1. V once said: “I left a purple balloon in your dream, look it up" to comfort ARMY who couldn't sleep.
    2. In the teaser we can see Suga hold newspaper and it said 'purple balloons signal the end of COVID-19'. It's a symbol of hope that's why they taking the masks off 😭
    3. The anagram of ‘Permission to Dance‘ is 'Stories On Pandemic.'
    4. They use sign language as a part of their dance choreography in ‘Permission to Dance, it's means 'fun,’ ‘dance,’ and ‘peace.’
    5. They leave messages throughout the ‘Permission to Dance’ MV in graffiti, text in the backdrop, and even visuals promoting unity and the end to Asian hate crimes.
    @schase0013 said
    Purple is the ARMY color, you'll see a lot of purple hearts and ARMY's saying "Borahae" or "I purple you"
    Bora is Korean for purple and during a 2016 fan meeting V said the following: "Do you know what purple means? Purple is the last color of the rainbow. Purple means I will trust and love you for a long time. I wish I can see you for a long time just like the meaning of purple. We'll always trust you and go up the stairs with you."
    Saranghae is Korean for "I love you"
    So you take Bora (for purple) and Hae (from saranghae) and you get Borahae meaning "I purple you" which can be translated as "I'll love you until the end"
    TL:DR- Purple is the color of ARMY, V created the term "Borahae" meaning "I purple you" which can be translated as "I'll love you till the end" so purple is a very significant color for BTS and ARMY.
    @lauren0047 said on 4/30/23
    Long explanation coming, I hope this reaches you! Some context here for their English trilogy. Some people criticize the songs for the reasons y'all said but i think they weren't any less meaningful because of the context of them. (I know you're talking from a loving place and i get what you're saying, I also love the depth of their Korean discography so this isn't a dig in anyway!).
    The English trilogy (Dynamite, Butter and PTD) were all released during the pandemic. We have since found out that the album that came before these songs, Map Of The Soul 7, was supposed to be their last album before their break. They were scheduled to do an insane record-breaking world tour but it got cancelled because of the pandemic. It was supposed to be the grand finale before they'd go on this hiatus they now are going through. Which we obviously didn't know back then. But then came the pandemic, and unbeknownst to us, they were really struggling. Instead of going on the hiatus they had planned, they decided to keep working to entertain ARMYs during the pandemic, even though they were in the need of the rest. Now this is after seven years of constant working, i think they had one break of like a month during that whole time.
    So instead of going for deep, difficult themes they usually tackle in their music, they decided their goal was to cheer up people during the hard times. They released the album BE, which was about the pandemic, and Dynamite was the title track off of it. That blew up. BTS was already the biggest group in the world but Dynamite was their biggest hit yet. It was a total surprise to BTS too, how big that song got. Butter and PTD were the other two songs they released afterwards, spreading them apart so we had new releases to look forward to. After that, they released the anthology album Proof before finally getting their hiatus.
    Their music has always been meant to heal people. It's in the original BigHit logo - Music and Artists for Healing. They've done that through difficult topics line mental health and troubles of the youth, social commentary and self-reflection. When the pandemic hit and the world was turned upside down, they figured it was their time to focus on the positivity and the hope of a future without the pandemic. That can be seen in this video, too - the masks finally coming off, people gathering together, singing about how nothing can stop us from enjoying life and making the best of the current situation ("we don't need permission to dance").
    These songs brought us so much joy during the pandemic, so they're meaningful in that way. Now if this was the final direction they were to take with their music, I wouldn't be happy, because I also love BTS' depth and lyricism and vulnerability. And the mix of other genres. But for the time they were perfect! RM also talked about how they were kind of "lost" with their career and not knowing what the next message should be. That's why this hiatus came at a great time, they all get to grow individually. Also RM seems to be back on track because he was supposed to enlist with J-Hope after his album but he suddenly got inspired to write another one and so he's not going quite yet 😄 So glad he has found himself again! Obviously their English trilogy wasn't really an authentic expression of their artistry because they didn't write much of them, which is quite unusual for them. As a poet and originally a hip hop artist, it seemed RM wasn't really fulfilled by them.
    These songs also reached greater heights then their previous work, but BTS have always grown with each comeback - we were already getting Hot100 #1s before them. Obviously the songs being English and bright pop helped them get more mainstream, considering what the US music industry is like. They also got their first Grammy nominations which they dreamed of. And I'm sure they were also thinking about this popularity aspect when planning the English trilogy but I think there's so much more to it.
    That being said, I'm so happy to see you guys back!! Y'all are one of my favourite channels! Can't wait to see y'all watch the new releases, RM and Jimin and Suga have released their albums since y'all were last here, and so much has happened! Suga actually just started a tour. Jungkook did a song for the World Cup and performed there. Jin and J-hope are in the military already. Can't wait to see the rest of their solo work, it has been amazing and super busy so far! And they also keep talking about 2025 which is when they'll be back together, that comeback is gonna be insane 😅 And it's heartwarming seeing them support each others work and miss each other on their solo endeavours. But they're growing so much from this solo chapter of having to work by themselves!

    Hi Gabbsi I love your videos and love BTS. As a StayArmy…I was wondering if you would ever think about reacting to Stray Kids? I think you would love them. 😊

      Just top of my head, she mentioned how Namjoon sounded better in the live version. I think you just don't focus on the video

    Question. Has this channel turned into a BTS channel only, now? If yes no worries. It's just not my type of music so gonna unsub. I really loved your reactions! U were one of my favs but it appears the channel has taken a turn. No worries tho. I wish u the best gabbsi!!! Will check back in a couple of months. To see where the channel is. Sorry as I'm just not into kpop. NO DISRESPECT!!! 🫂 💜 Wish u the best!!! Diane in CT USA❤😊

      I only watch the BTS reactions, but I know she does plenty of other ones. Taylor Swift, One Direction, Olivia Rodrigo, Pentatonix, etc., to name a few. Just check out her playlists here on CZcams, and you will see them all.
