This is indeed a Mecha Godzilla reference.

Why doesn't Robotnik have Sonic bots to test his ultimate weapons?
Can you talk about Shard the Metal Sonic
@@silverbullet1620 because none of them can match sonic's ever evolving, chaotic, hedgehog power.
I thought he looked like the 1974-1975 mechagodzilla.
No one discusses how metal Sonic in the tube looks different from the one we get as an unlockable. He even FLY in Amy’s flashback during her first cutscene
Actually, looking at him closely, his design reminds me of another famous mecha... Mechagodzilla.
...Dude that is a very good point.
Man can I shout you out in a CZcams short? It has some EXACT copies from Mecha Godzilla.

I would name this mysterious Robot version of Sonic "Robo Sonic" and i would give him better feets so that he can run as fast as Sonic.
@@stg4theglitchog768 It looks like his feet are designed to quickly zip across the stage like Silver and Mecha Sonic.
@@BlueAmpharos Yeah but i think he was made with a metal that could not be destroyied by Sonic.
I like to think of this character as a cut boss, and when they finally scrapped him they were like "Well we already have a model, so why not throw it in as a little cameo.". Or based off what you guys said, maybe he was gonna be the original villain of the game until they made Chaos, or at least a secondary villain. Maybe even an earlier design for Gamma, because all of that sounds much more interesting than just a prop.
He does have the wheels like gamma along with being able to shoot from his fingers so maybe
@@joemama8018 Even though he is just a reference to Mecha Godzilla I'm sure that he was supposed to be used in the game somewhere, other than some lab.
I wonder if this unnamed robot was actually meant to be Metal's sparring partner; a robot designed to emulate Sonic's speed, strength, and hand-to-hand combat abilities as closely as possible so as to test to see if other creations were ready for a confrontation with the real deal.

I do like how the fan game, Sonic 3D in 2D used the Adventure Robot as a boss.
@W Shiflet I made a typo. Personally I think Sonic 2D Flickies Island would’ve worked more
That fan game was what created my head canon into calling the Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 8-bit “Silver Sonic MK-I”, the Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 16-bit “Silver Sonic MK-II”, and the Silver Sonic from Sonic Adventure “Silver Sonic MK-III”.
Yeah, that's a great game

If no one knows who designed it, there's a slim chance it's some cut model from Xtreme given it *is* lower poly than most SA models. On top of that SA1 is no stranger to reusing Saturn models and the Xtreme boss engine WAS extremely advanced for what it was
I think the chest of the robot looking like MechaGodzilla is a cool detail.
I like how silver sonic mk.II resembles the Showa MechaGodzilla. I love it when one thing I like references another thing I like.
In a lot of ways, in the archie comics I think he was a victim of trying to adapt the stories of a different universe into another where they weren't enitrely compatable. It just feels like they tried to force station square into the comics due to obligation when previously the comic continuity was established in a way where it was hard to justify in a fully satisfying way.
I'm just incredibly glad that Archie sonic isnt canon because that shit was terrible for most of its existence. Most of it's original designs looked like furry deviantart OCs and the plotlines were so stupidly bonkers it was like reading riverdale
@@backwardsbandit8094 you see you say that, but I haven't enjoyed this series nearly as much ever since the Archie Comics were canceled. The games stopped caring about story telling so long ago the archie series was the only thing I had to look forward to narratively. You see I'm glad the Archie Comics aren't canon to the games, but for a very different reason. For me it's because never wanted them to be tainted by how fast and loose Sega treats the game continuity. Now that the comics follow the game continuity more so I've lost interest. At this point I'm convinced Shadow doesn't even have a canon backstory anymore.
@@BlackTheBerserker I think you'll be glad then that it's been confirmed that some of the writers of the current comics, that carried over from Archie, have been tasked with writing the story for the next modern sonic game! They have to work with certain constraints in the new comics, but they do such a good job within them that I feel that the new comics, despite having so much working against them, immensely improve the story of the games for me, at least. It's not perfect, but it's some pretty quality stuff imo and shouldn't be written off entirely.
Can we just call Silver Sonic II "Gregg"
Yes
sure why not
*Hovering in a tube. Menacingly.*
I hearby accept that Sonicman origin story as headcanon.
“1 hour” that’s a funny way of saying an hour and 20 minutes
fr i was waiting for this
Considering in Sonic CD during the race with Metal Sonic when you win his face plate gets smashed into the wall when crossing the finish line. So maybe the reason Metal is in the tube to be repaired and the other one would be sent out to battle Sonic until Metal is fully repaired and upgraded as we see on Sonic Heroes
0:20 I hate to be that guy, but Eggman actually didn’t make “Cyber-Sonic.” He was created by a group of sentient androids with DNA samples from sonic the hedgehog himself. (It’s a long story.)
True but his potential is interesting 🤔
I like to imagine an "Episode Metal" to Sonic Adventure as an epilogue to the main game in which Metal Sonic fought against this robot to see who is the definitive sonic mech, Metal or Mecha.
Huh. I'm starting to think that this character isn't Chris from Sonic X... But I could be wrong.
Lololololol!!!!!!
I would absolutely love for the IDW comics to use this guy at some point. He'd be perfect for an arc.
If Robotnik truly is smart he would’ve released the mecha
The design of Mecha Sonic in Sonic 3 and Knuckles has a really narrow visor that looks impractical, like he wouldn't be able to see anything slightly above him that he isn't directly looking at, such as, say, a hedgehog that is spinning at a 75 degree angle through the air. That brow protrudes outwards more than the other Sonic robots and would definitely narrow his vertical field of view, unless he had extra sensors in his ears or something.
So glad to see Chaomix popping off so hard that he's able to team up with the great Game Apologist himself I adore both of your channels and the content u guys make
I feel like every comment I make on this channel is talking more about the content creator himself and not the actual video sorry about that I just love spreading my appreciation for these videos
I was disappointed this version of mecha Sonic never got to be a boss or something in the games, but he does have a cool legacy in the comic. In that canon Robotnik created the Death Egg Silver Sonic by reverse engineering and upgrading Sonic's robotocized form, then mk 2 here was an upgrade of that, and later on we'd get one more upgrade with mk3 who was basically a Sonic shaped TANK, never letting us forget the greatness of issue 39, which some still insist was the best issue of the series run.
I always just assumed that this was just... Mecha Sonic. The one guarding the Death Egg in Sonic 2 on the Genesis/Mega Drive. All the design principles are there, gray/silver outer shell, bulky armor, wheelie greaves for feet, bulky fingers.
It just seemed to be an updated arstyle; like how Amy, Metal and Sonic were portrayed in their "Adventure" era designs when Amy was flashing back to the events of Sonic CD.
Yeah, it just looks like an updated design. Might've been a scrapped boss, since they definitely put some effort into it. But I look at the two, and I'm like, "Yup, same robot."
Glad you guys took a look into this robot, always wondered about him!
I don’t really mind that this robot exists but it didn’t have much of a purpose AT ALL and is just something the sega made to put as a Easter egg that would really never been used again
That robot looks like he would be the doppelganger boss of a game staring Metal Sonic.
You also see him in Amy’s first cutscene. He’s chasing her when she talks about how bored she is.
You forgot to mention the fact that his design is straight-up showa mechagodzilla in sonic form. Lol.
He did mention the Dragonzord
If they do a remake of Sonic Adventure, I'd want a post-game story with Silver-Sonic-II, along the lines of what archie did, but not-so "archie-esc."
I like how there's a variety of robot sonics which is kinda cool
And he kinda looks like furnace
i honestly knew him as Silver Sonic MK.II from that one image of all the mechanical sonics listed off but i forgot what it was.
Sonic Paradox website I assume.
@@KyubiMaster100 i'd imagine it was from Sonic Paradox but i never been to the website. found it off of google images like around 2013-2016
I like the idea of this being a Silver Sonic Mk 2, it shares a fair amount of elements with him. An old experiment abandoned in favor of a more speed focused redesign leading to Mecha and later Metal. Something Eggy kept around in case he ever wanted to return to the more tanky concept which he kinda does with the E-series.
He was also in the Archie adaptation of Sonic adventure they called him"Silver Sonic 2"
So Izuka was asked about him and he said hes Modern Silver Sonic
I think Eggman combined this and Metal Sonic to make Neo Metal Sonic
Metal Sonic was the one to create Neo Metal Sonic, at least in the game canon

I think an honourable mention should go to The Wax, from Sonic Paradox, who is one of, if not, the only fans to have used Silver Sonic II outside of game canon in his animations: Dark Chaos 1 and 2.
honestly i think he was made to clear up any confusion over the silver > mecha > metal
and for that they would of needed a model
and mecha didnt have a 3d reference yet so they made their own
This robot Sonic was just as impactful with me playing Sonic Adventure new as a kid, so much in fact, that some years later I attempted to make a 3D fan game using the model.

It took me too long to notice that Mech Sonic 2 here heavily resembles 70's Mechagodzilla.
That's the robot that appears on Amy's story on Sonic Adventure, when she remembers Sonic saving her
Great video guys! Ever since I first REALLY noticed this in the metal knuckles video, I was wondering what this guy could be about.
Silver sonic being a terminator type of mech is genuis because he looks like the type to walk slowly and scan for his target.
I love Mecha doppelgängers of my favorite characters and monsters, and as a, Godzilla fan. I never saw the difference until I typed up sonic Godzilla crossover and this video pop up.
As a youngster I was always fascinated by this. But then I didn't think about it for many years. Now that youve reminded me of it Im eager to watch this, even if there's no conclusion by the end.
I would call this guy "Steel Sonic" cuz I feel like it just fits well
I was always fascinated by the unnamed Sonic robot. I'd love to see it in action in a Sonic game
I was really hoping you'd mention Sonic Dark Chaos in this video, but I had also forgotten this robot showed up in the Archie comics, so I'm glad I was still able to learn something.
I like to think of it as a sort of link between the Metal/Mecha Sonic line and the E-Series.
Silver Sonic came about, was clunky, this was was a 2.0 version, then got split into the more refined Metal Sonic we all know and try to escape from and the more battle ready Eggs. What with the gun fingers and easier to churn out builds.
Wow the torso is an exact replica, even the black rubberish pieces for the suit to have better movement are there, and he even looks like he has finger missiles, a shame he never got to see action.
It's absolutely great to see you in a video together. You just work really well together.
Wheels on his feet, Gun Chambers for fingers, and looks like he was made more for combat then going fast.....
This description fits Gamma. Could this have been the playable shooting character?
Here is the list of robotic doppelganger versions of Sonic the Hedgehog:
1. Mecha Sonic Mark 1 (8-Bit Sonic 2)
2. Mecha Sonic Mark 2 (16-Bit Sonic 2)
3. Metal Sonic (Sonic CD).
4. Mecha Sonic Mark 3 (Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic 3 Complete).
And 5. Unnamed Sonic Robot (Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut).
You’re videos are so good. A big channel covering the most obscurity at greater length? Like please educate me. I want an authentic redesign of this Mecha Sonic. It’s very fun to speculate the intention behind it’s design. Definitely intriguing to theorize.
Blessing us with two videos
The mention of Gerald Robotnik in this video made me realize that Gerald is a real character in the Sonic franchise. I was first aware of Gerald's existence through a video of an AI Dungeon generated script called Sonic Destruction. I thought that Gerald is a character made up by the AI, like the mayor in the script.
I have some pretty good thoughts on this version of Metal Sonic also. If you look closely at the features you can identify that this robot was created to match the skills of each playable character in the game:
Rockets on the shoes for flying & speeding up. (Tails & Sonic)
Rocket barrel knuckles for punching & firing missiles. (Knuckles & Gamma)
Awkward metallic feet that close in for extra jump height. (Amy)
And launchable wrists to grab things with from a distance. (Big... well... still not sure about this one)
Every time mecha sonic picks his nose, he must be sweating bullets worrying if one of his gun fingers are going to go off.
I believe that the canon name of silver sonic from sonic 2 is actually robo sonic, at least that's what he is called in sonic's level on Lego dimensions.
I know that Lego dimensions can hardly be called canonical but I'm pretty sure it is the only time he's name was stated at all in a game as far as I know.
Glad to found this channel again:3
Great video as always. I'll wait for next year video on Shard.
Me too 😂,he deserves beter (but i belive game apologist does not like him)
This series has me wondering… what if Sega made a Sonic franchise game - not a Sonic game, as it wouldn't have sonic or the usual meat cast - where the opening is one of Eggman's 'doppelgänger' robots (works best if it's a new one) is trying to secure a location for Eggman, and someone asks why they are doing this, giving the robot pause. Best explained by learning A.I. or a bug in the Code, the robot concludes that they benifit more by being on the side of the many, rather than the side of Eggman. You then play as this robot and like pretty much every Sonic game, your goal is to defeat bosses-in this game, it happens to be every other 'doppelgänger' robot that has canonically appeared in the Sonic franchise games. If you beat them, you 'knock some sense' into them and they join your cause.
So obscure robots like Metal Knuckles and this guy would show up not just as enemies, but part of the playable roster.
Metal Sonic could still show up to fight sonic, as he was programmed for that specific reason, and is a recurring villain. He and sonic would still fight in future games, but now only because sonic enters MetaSoni's territory and not because MetaSoni is hunting for him.
And perhaps instead of to the death, it could be a form of bravado, to show the machine is superior to the hedghog.
It'll probably never happen…
… but what if it did?
I think Eggman stopped his robot Sonic line as soon as he discovered Gerald’s work on Shadow. Biological creatures could reach greater heights than robots, which is why he started looking into ancient legends and otherworldly creatures from there on out.
Ah Chaomix. Literally found out about him like 3 days ago, neato coincidence. Oh and I just got done playing some Adventure, and was in this room with Amy lol
In regards to the order in which Eggman made his robotic Sonic duplicates, if you take into consideration the theory that Metal Sonic is a roboticized Sonic from Sonic CD's bad future, it's possible the "worse" Mecha Sonics are an attempt to emulate Metal Sonic, hence why they come after in the timeline. This explains why this Mecha is in a tube just like Metal's; The two robots are being compared in some way, most likely. This also would explain why Eggman hasn't made another Metal Sonic- he tried, and failed. It also would explain why Metal believes he is the real Sonic- he is.
0:22 oh shit I actually REALLY like that robot version of Sonic. I wish they had incorporated some of those design elements, like the neckguard and the white forearms, instead of the plain, lanky Metal Sonic we did get.
I do like how in Archie when Shadow shows up to steal the emerald, Silver Sonic MK 2 is still protecting Station Square.
He looks like an unholy fusion of Shard and Showa MG, and I hate that I love it.
Mysterious Mecha Sonic was really bizarre to me, I liked his design but I didn't know where he came from so I just thought that he was gonna be an unlockable later on. To my surprise after watching some Showa Godzilla films I realized that he was actually just a reference to Mechagodzilla.
This character was first introduced to me as a robotisized Grandpa/Uncle to Sonic
In the Genesis game for sonic 2 the player seems to be lured into a vacuum in space (with no rings) by this and without the chaos emeralds it's a real catch 22.
I used to think it was the mecha sonic from Sonic 2 but seems not. Looking at its design now I think it could have been another body for E-101 Beta rather than the MarkII design. It kinda seems similar with the 2 gun hands and that would have been a crazy twist.
I think of it like this. Eggman never stopped upgrading Meca Sonic/Silver Sonic. Leading to Mecha, then this one which I'll call Neo Mecha Sonic. So this version is the complete antithesis of Metal. Capable of Close range combat and able to do battle with Knuckles(thus the thrusters and spines) using data from Metal and his failures to fight sonic, its likely that he had Metal and Neo Mecha in that room together to whittle sonic down. Sending Metal to tire him enough for Neo to come in and completely overpower him. That would explain why he has ranged weaponry, allowing him to either keep sonic out of range or increase attack range for Mecha sonic which it previously didn't have without the Master Emeralds power. The thruster are to deal with Knuckles if he shows up, so he can put him down quick or go blow for blow with him if needed, also explaining its tanky frame. The visor would be for scanning and looking for sonic if he managed to keep ahead of him like he said, and the body would also be for housing items and utilizing the emeralds power.(chaos control probably, considering eggman has data from shadow and sonics fight.) I would say the legs aren't for travel speed persay but more for quick bursts of speed like Robo/Meca Sonic or quick dodges to avoid unnecessary damage. But thats just my take. I'm a mecha fan and love nerding out over mechs or just robots in general. Giant or otherwise. I love hearing about the history of robots and mechs on this channel if ya find more then please upload em when ya can! Also. The visor would make sense. Robots like the MS-04 "Zaku" up to the MSN-06 "Zeong" have only one eye but have been blind sided by attacks from behind due to poor field of vision. Since Neo Mecha is so small outfitting cameras like they did to fix the problem with the Zaku would make it into a simple Recon unit and effectively make it useless. So it makes sense he would go for a visor, as the RGM-78 "GM" had this feature and allowed it to see more of its surroundings during fights. Ranged scanning makes sense as he's a blue speedy rat.
I generally place CD as being before Sonic 2, with Metal and Silver Sonic's having been made in parallel. My headcanon on this is that Silver Sonic was more of a failure than Metal Sonic, focusing on power over speed, which Sonic was able to counter. Metal Sonic came much closer to doing Sonic in, with the race between them at Stardust Speedway being very clench at the end between them. This prompted Eggman to experiment further. With Metal Sonic still stranded on Little Planet, Eggman would have to wait for it's return to reclaim him. In the meanwhile, he worked on an upgrade for Silver Sonic, remodeling him into the much more powerful and deadly Mecha Sonic. Sonic then proceeded to handily defeat Mecha, followed by Knuckles defeating it despite it's ability to turn Super.
All this prompted Eggman to choose Metal as his favorite. It's not that he's the most recent to be made, it's that his design was the most successful at rivaling Sonic and friends, still being incredibly powerful, just less so, but having the speed to make up for it. Metal Sonic might not hit as hard as Silver Sonic or Mecha Sonic normally, but his speed means he can hit more often, doing more overall damage, and he can as needed trade off his speed for more power. This makes him the most strategically viable, and so Eggman likely concluded that it wasn't worth pursuing the other line anymore and just continued to upgrade Metal Sonic directly.
Maybe the reason why he never reappeared is because he became part of Neo Metal Sonic?
But Neo Metal Sonic is just a more powerful form of regular Metal Sonic as shown turning back into Metal Sonic after being defeated in Heroes. Metal became Neo under a completely different unknown way as it's never explained how he obtained that form
@@robonaught I meant that since Neo Metal has the ability tobabsorb data and get stronger, like a gizoid, that perhaps he absorbed the Mecha Sonics, Silver Sonic, and any other "inferior beings".
the funny thing is i just started watching chaomix and he became on of my favourite youtubers.
I always wondered about this guy
Coming from the Chaomix discord and all I have to say is that I did not see this collab coming.
He's always been my favorite design.
He kinda looks like a counter to shadow. Atleast that's the first thought I had when looking at him. Maybe his chest compartment is to hold a chaos emerald to do a chaos control
Never realized it till now, but the texture on this mecha's torso is nearly identical to Mecha-Godzilla-- the flap thing in the center of his chest is a dead giveaway (Mecha-Godzilla has one that houses a laser gun). The finger guns are almost certainly a direct reference to MG as well, since he famously has missile launchers in his fingers.
Someone else just pointed it out. I can't believe I missed that. I'm making a CZcams short as we speak.
I never actually considered that it wasn't just the Sonic 2 version, I always figured it was just a nice little easter egg. But yeah comparing the two like this, it's obviously so much more than that. I wonder if they originally had more plans for the design.
That humpty dumpty joke and where is the better mecha sonic joke killed me
this is why i love game apoligist
I'm so glad that Winter Jam acknowledged his existance
I love it when two of my favorite Sonic CZcamsrs collaborate! :D
I personally think he was a salvage of Silver and Mecha Sonic, with similarities to body proportions and such, it just feels like a salvage of both.
I kinda picture them treating fights with sonic as chess, utilizing their processing speed and ranged capabilities to out speed sonic in combat due to sonic being a melee fighter. Metal Sonic was an attempt to improve on sonic, this feels like an attempt to *counter* sonic. Picture a fight in your head where sonic goes to rush him down and dodge his attacks but utilizing his 10 guns, he simply picks out the 10 most likely moves for sonic to make, including thinking far ahead into the encounter and makes the optimal shots to win him the fight. He has frail points but his efficient demeanor means that should sonic get close he'd use what is effectively optimized martial arts to defend himself and find an opening to regain momentum. I can imagine him being perfectly willing to retreat and using optimal strategy to follow whatever order set is embedded within him.
What I do wanna know is why the metal Sonic in the tube look more detailed than the unlockable Sonic skin we get in game. The way he looks in Amy’s flashback is the same as the tube but not in actual gameplay
He looks like he could be a shelfed beta design of S3&K Mecha Sonic(who was my favorite design) as many of the aspects from Silver Sonic such as bulk, and older wheel based movement, where you can see his design path heading to a more sleek version like S3&K Mecha Sonic.
Just for future reference, maybe to make it easier, you should call the Sonic 2 16-bit robot Robo Sonic, from the LEGO game. It may be the only time he's named differently, but it's better then sharing names.
