It's an American political joke. A recent supreme court nominee was asked to "define what a woman is" and her response was essentially "I can't, I'm not a biologist". To be fair, it is overly reductive paraphrasing since there is more context to the nature of the original question, but it's become a meme in certain circles. That nominee is now confirmed Justice Ketanji Brown. (I think I spelled that right)

The way you described solo anxiety is so spot on for me. I usually log on and just sit in my stash or do scavruns when my duo buddy isnt on because im so scared of going solo. Only loot scavs/ players/ weapon/ armor boxes. For me being angry / upset after i died was the killer so i always try and have a kit ready to go so i don't dwell on the last death.

I started setting dying quotas. So i wouldn't even extract until i died 10 times today. That way you get used to it and expect it. Only leaving the raid if i got juice like level 6+armor or extremely rare loot.

I had big gear fear las wipe, when I started playing, I ended up with 50 mil roubles, tons of meta weapons, and armors. For me, the wipe was the moment when I lost gear fear since you know you can lose it all eventually. Now I run what I have with around 5 mil roubles just rushing through quests and maxing out traders as fast as I can.

What helps me with gear fear is mostly using things I can replenish. If I use only the armour, weapons and ammo I can get with my current trader levels or that ar cheap on the flea, then I don't feel like I've really lost anything valuable when I die. Since I can replenish the lost things easily, I basically just lost a bit of money and money is literally an infinite resource in tarkov.

@@ahartakpower I disagree, money is time, and levelling is also just time. as long as you know you'll reach 15, pre-flea market should logically be the same as post-flea. earning money takes time, levelling take time. it's all about time. for me, it's not even the amount of money I have, it is more the plans i set ahead. if i know i have a very good loot run\scav run to fall back on in case i get unlucky for more than a few consecutive raids, then I dont mind dying because dying only means you have to go for 10-30 minutes of money runs or an optimized scav run and youre back to being based economically.

    • @lewisjones284
      @lewisjones284 Před 10 měsíci +1

I'd say this is the 3rd tier away from gear fear:
Tier 1: Complete gear fear. Runs PMs because they 'know' they'll die anyways, so the M4 from wipe is not worth losing. Occasionally does hatchling runs when injured instead of forking over the healing cost. Has no stash space because of the hording of stock AK74s that they have found and immediately extracted with. 'The glock is so expensive for a pistol!!!'
Tier 2: Runs extreme budget builds with tiny bags and rigs, with or without a PACA. The player justifies this by calling it a 'full loadout', despite how cheap it is. Expect KEDRs, PP-19-01s, Gornostays, and so on. Lives on the idea of not needing to spend money as they'll snowball every now and then, just to not use what they get anyways.
Tier 3: Has a stack of nice guns taken from chads, or builds that you intend to run 'down the line' when you have better armour. All of this is ignored for a very long time or sold, with the player instead running the best stock guns (with Kobras) and armour that they can get from their (slightly under-levelled) traders. Good bags and rigs are ran too, so this isn't too bad.
Tier 4: Understands that the whole fun of the game, live or die, is to struggle your way to better gear and utilise it to the best of your abilities. The only exceptions to them using the best weapons is if they don't have class 4 armour to go with it, or if they don't have any good ammo to use with it. Otherwise, you can expect them to maximise their survival rate by arming themselves to the teeth, nades included. Kits vary from good raid to bad raid, but are almost always the best possible.
Tier 5: 100 mil in the bank, running meme builds because of how chadly they have become from getting good at the game with the best of the weapons. Will breach load a silenced AK, run 7 flashlight laser combos on a shotgun, and put a Vudu on a Saiga-9.

You have successfully verbalized easy to translate strategies and ways to rewire old habits by analyzing gear fear in Tarkov.
It's okay to fail, don't view it as a mistake but a chance to learn again. If we continue to make the same mistakes, then it is time to evaluate the why behind the actions.
Sell valuable things in our inventory that is useless to us but valuable overall, and put ourselves ahead with those funds towards things we want/need.
Objective based gameplay and having small individualized objectives instead of applying ourselves across multiple things at once, instead of focusing on being great at one thing at a time.

I'd like to start by saying that I've watched quite a few guides on Tarkov about this or that, but yours have consistently been the ones that I actually take something away from. I have trouble sitting through the longer videos that many creators tend to put out and the heaps of information rarely stick. So I wanted give a heartfelt thank you for the content and guides you've been putting out - as I tend to learn more from them than I do from even some of the bigger streamers like Pestily.

Tips: Dont think of loosing gear, instead think of it like donating gear to other players (this one help me a lot, odd how you can become so attached to some virtual pixels). Make sure to watch a video on scav behavior (aka dont re-peek, but relocate) is really importent. Get used to "dying" by playing Factory in offline mode at first, this also helps understaing scav behavior. After that try online factory with minimal gear aka just a sling (2k) & a double barrel shotgun (8k).. aka you loose nothing because the gear is so cheap & has like 95% insurance return. This should help adjust you mindset to make "death" a everyday normality & dont feel like "loosing/gear" & at the same time grind a bit of normal COD reactions into you. The "trouble" with the game is that it mainly has these big empty maps that you can cross without meeting someone, so when you finally meet someone you start thinking etc. Having made a instinctual COD doubletap should up ypur survivalrate & help you not thinking of loosing gear but instead free your mind to other things like positioning, relocating etc.

Great video! I didn't think I had any gear fear but after watching this video i realized i kind of have it. I feel like the part about playing solo really felt like it hit me 😅 When i don't have any friends to play with i basically only do scav runs, because of an kind of fear of playing solo, but i justified it because this is my first wipe and i only have 150 hours in the game and i play on an standard account so I have low cash all the time and when I get cash i spend it on my hideout, so me playing solo scavrunw was an easy and safe way to learn the maps and get some cash to continue playing. But I wouldn't even try to bring cheap load outs in an regular raid. Definitely gonna have my mates also watch this to make them think about how they play and i will try to actively think what i did wrong and good in fights!

I'm new to EFT and I'm happy that I've found your channel.
Gear fear hit me right away since all my LLs are 1 and just breaking $1M rubles is a bit of a struggle while I'm learning what's valuable and where to find it. Heck, just figuring out where I am on a map is a struggle most of the time. LOL So I find myself looting some higher tier gear and realizing that I can't buy a replacement for it if I die compounded with the lack of experience in gun fights meant that the odds of me coming out of a raid with my gear was pretty low.
What works for me at this stage is similar to some of the advice you gave in this video, and that's selling that "top tier" gear and buying what's available at my current tier level. It's crap gear and crap ammo, but I know I can replace it and that gives me a little more confidence. Plus having a little more room in my stash cuts down on the time I spend playing backpack simulator trying to figure out how I'm going to fit the next scav run loot.

Last wipe I had huge gear fear and would literally hide for half the raid. This wipe I just focused on doing tasks and learning woods stash runs and that pretty much eliminated my gear fear since I know I can just spam woods runs and easily make more money. Also I run scavs whenever possible since that’s pretty much free money if you just go to a map where you know where most the stashes are. Unlocking the flea is huge too, since most items will likely net you close to 10k. Thanks for another great guide my guy, they’re always super helpful and to the point

Noticed you didn't even have learning how to PvP. Instead of wasting your time stash running. Cut those in half and just go on a PvP run on w.e map you enjoy. PvP is profitable by this point in wipe. Why stash run if you can just kill people who looted the map for you.

I found that the biggest cause of gear fear was a lack of consistent playing. It was hard to gauge what was a lucky raid and what was actually normal in Tarkov. When you start off, and even play a few hundred hours, it's easy to convince yourself that your survived raids were lucky, and that 90% of 'normal' raids end in you dying.

The same goes for atacthments, I have tons of sights, supressors and so on, but I never get to use It because It is very expensive and cant afford buying It, now I know they must go to the flea or mechanic and keep buying things that I can really afford.

True storry. Finished my first whipe when I started in 2021 with 8 slicks, 7 Hexgrids and a couple of Zebralos plus tons of guns. Then everything was gone and the new whipe started. That was the point for me when I said to myself that its pointless to wait for using this gear until Im better at the game. I just used it, lost some but got way better in PvP. Its excactly how you say. Just use It and If you need money, figure out a Map you are confortable on and farm roubles as a scav. For me its Woods and its about 400k per run in avarage if you learned the loot spots PMCs dont go.

A good way to tell if its time to upgrade from Timmy to Tommy or from Tommy to Chadicus is if you're losing fights by 1 or 2 shots, if you're getting in multiple fights where the difference between you winning and losing it is if you survived a fraction of a second longer or if they died a fraction of a second earlier its time to invest in better gear, the biggest thing for me was finding a middle ground, my kit is only 250k but I can run it infinitely and still compete with any player I run in to, you just need to find the sweet spot that fits your playstyle and skill level. And for the love of god do your scav runs and you should never run out of money

That was a really bad part of the wipe for me, really hurt my progression.

Lots of good additional points here. One thing though: Longer you hold onto gear, the more players will have access to it thus less effective advantage it offers you. I'm not saying slick + altyn every time you find one, but leverage your advantages while they mean the most. Remember the pvp tasks you struggle with and use em for that, and tone it down for the ones you don't.

Now that I have AH I generally stay between 300k-2 mil roubles, buying level 3-4 armor and doing builds as often as I can to learn the game.

Some insights for older players. When you feel blah but still want to play farm with budget load outs. When you feel great and warmed up use the good kits. Reserve manhole run with pistols and learn to use the guns you can get that way. Pawn buildings and horse buildings are good for that. Scav and run down into the tunnels to grab pmc guns/ raider guns. Practice alot with cheap guns you can get early wipe. Flesh rounds are the great equalizer. Ppsh with lrnpc 9x18 sp7 or sp8(silenced). Most importantly have fun.

that shoreline resort example is the same experience ive had. im new and i tell my experienced friend i need to go to grab something for a quest and he has the key for it, he says cool we can do that. we do that then he opens up 100 other rooms, we get fat with loot then get wrecked by players. same shit happened on factory, i needed office kills he agrees we are going to office, and we spawn in the forklift room and he runs off straight towards the first sounds of gunfire nowhere near the office, and being a good team player i come with him, we kill a few guys but ofc get killed. sticking to the plan is important lol.

@rengawr brings up a fantastic point that maybe only Pestily and a few others have said before as a huge tip and that's to have objectives in your raids. You get to chose 1 thing in each raid until you are a more proficient player. Make money, chase pvp or do questing. You can't do it all until you've mastered the fundamentals of Tarkov or become on the same level as the top 25% of the player base. Self reflection is the best way to grow as a person and video game player. The only constant in your life is you. What does success look like in this raid? did I learn something new? did I make a mistake? was my pathing too predictable? did I make a bad decision in the moment? watch back your gameplay and compare it to your Tarkov idols. You will notice the small things you do differently than them that cause you to die.

The worst thing I cant even use them for that stupid punisher quest cause of the scav vest. I mean you can be broke with 500k roubles left. But my advice of not having fear is that you always have scav to get free loot. Use your scav to your advantage and try to get out every raid to get your money back. Learn the loot guides on each map. Where's the good things. Don't take risky fights as player scav if you are broke. And remember to survive first and fight later. You are more likely to make more money every raid if you survive your scavs.

I have less than 10k rubles now at level 22. I don't think I can bring myself to play anymore. Last wipe I had a 70% survival rate and like a 5 kd. This wipe its about 30%. I haven't caught a break in this game in about 2 weeks. Every raid, every map I get spawned right next to a team. I'm a solo. Most of the time I kill the team and then get killed by a scav or another bigger team rushes me as well. At this point, I'm beginning to think Nikita just doesn't want me to play his game. Lol. I've tried so many different guides and routes on all the maps, excluding labs because obviously I can't afford it. Nothing is working for me this wipe. I don't have gear fear, I just can't afford gear anymore. Sorry for long comment.
