    For almost all on-road driving test you must change lanes on a multi-lane road. For new drivers, this skill can be a challenge. You must have a minimum of two shoulder (head) checks before moving the vehicle. You must observe correctly and be able to judge correct gap. And best practices dictate that you have minimum three flashes on the signal before moving the vehicle. Finally, leave your signal on until you’re completely in the other lane. If you don’t shoulder (head) check two times, you will be assigned demerits. Good luck on your driver’s test.
    Good luck on your road test.

    Can you show us a link where there's such thing as 2 shoulder checks and demerit points? First time I heard it and my driving instructor didn't mention anything about that rule.

    I always just count to 5 to make sure there’s enough time? Looking back and forth the whole time using all mirrors and looking back and forth before I change lanes…. I drive like a grandma 😣

    question, why are we instructed to look at the center rear mirror before chaning lanes. I dont really get it, since we're not so focused on our backs but our sides.

    Do you also have to shoulder check twice when you're merging or changing lanes in the freeway?

    • @aldrichemrys
      @aldrichemrys Před 2 lety +8

      Absolutely, it is even more critical because you do not want to merge with a car near to your side.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  Před 2 lety +9

      @Aldrich is correct my friend. Always look twice before proceeding. As I like to say: NOT shoulder checking is to driving what NOT checking to see if a weapon is loaded is to gun safety. All the best, Cheers Rick

    How about signal mirror shoulder?

  • @talhamurs3279
    @talhamurs3279 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Applicable only in usa as the lanes are too wide and side mirrors dont cover it all. If u do shoulder check in Europe in a moving car, not only is it dangerous, but it's a bit of an overkill.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  Před 4 měsíci

      That is simply false. And because there are even more vulnerable road users, it’s even more important. Cheers Rick

    • @talhamurs3279
      @talhamurs3279 Před 4 měsíci

      @smartdrivetest thanks Rick. this is why in Europe we put the indicator (turn signal) on and only starting Lane change after good couple of seconds, checking side mirror several times to determine if the car/bike on the other lane will hold back to accommodate us, or will it over take us.

      What if you miss something the first time. You always want a backup my friend. It's like carpentry - measure twice, cut once. Except in driving the consequences are more dire. Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick
