Darren, when I closed my full length slide, I heard a pop, and the rear inside corner fell to the ground. Thanks to your videos, I went to harbor freight, bought a body repair puller, and successfully pulled my H-harness (that will always be my word for it now)! I could see that my lower track and gear will be needing replacement, but I was able to realign everything, properly open and close my slide and get back on the road. The ONLY reason I succeeded was that your explanations of this device were so thorough and clear, I actually understood how it worked and could figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. Now THAT'S empowerment. I hope you know how much you have helped me, and how happy God is when one of his children takes care of his brothers like you do. God bless you, Darren!

We are a member it the 2020 Solitude 390rk group who have had the support rivets and gibs break. There are A LOT of us who are needing repair. GD will cover the repair if you speak to the right person. My hubby and I decided to do the repair ourselves (after receiving 2 incorrect parts from the manufacturer).
But if we had someone like you near us, we surely would have used you to repair.

What a great video definitely needed I have contacted you on several occasions about me doing my RV Schwintek on removing it and replacing the track on both sides and you have been very responsive offering me information on how todo it. I have taken the slide out apart 4 times unfortunately I just couldn’t get it level on both sides. After watching your new videos on doing the whole job I’m going to tackle it again this spring with some new tracks on each side and hopefully that will resolve my problem and it will operate properly again. I definitely have learned a lot from watching your videos they have helped me out a lot on other issues. Thank you for posting these videos they are great and very informative and help a lot of DIU out that want to do their own repairs. 👍

Hi Darren, I have a 40QBH Tiffin Phaeton with three Schintech/Lippert slides and one hydraulic slide. Your video on the electric Schwintech system is terrific! Thank you so much. Please stop posting Straits of Juan de Fuca videos. I was born and raised in Seattle from 54 to '94 and a avid sail boat racer. I've sailed by the shore you have posted on our Swiftsure Races out of Victoria. The videos really make feel like crap when I'm stuck in Dallas, TX the past 25 years.
One Schwintech episode I had last month in Wyoming, the 15 ft drivers slide didn't sheer the 5/16 shear bolt, but sheared the shaft of the schwintech motor. I called Lippert and they said the shaft required grade 8 bolts (which I did). Lippert also told me to NEVER lubricate the system. This sounded odd from me and watching your video makes me think I was right all along.
Darren, thanks again for you video's!!! Very helpful!!!

Excellent video. I have had a problem with my 2020 Lance 1995 lippert Schwintek slide out. Bottom front bearing block has failed three times. Slide will not go out evenly hangs up on front. Happened at campground first time. Would not go out on front. Called a mobile service and he could not help me. Basically the bottom block twisted and slide out would not go in or out. He got it the block out and we were able to push it in. Spent a month with the slide in camping. Not fun but not changing plans. No one could fix, no parts. Got it home, to the dealer, they ordered complete assembly front and back. Took 6 weeks. Installed took it home. Set up trailer, tried to put slide out, Same problem. Dealer came out and took trailer back. Had to for two days. And fixed it. Took it back home and set up and it worked. So I would open and close periodically. Worked 15 cycles. Same problem. Tech tried to open and it was the lower front bearing block again. Shoe was chewed up and and the track was full of debris. So waiting for for another 6 weeks for the front slide assembly. I am ready to get rid of this thing. Perhaps I should plan a trip up your way? Thanks for video, but still a loss. I live in Prescott, AZ. I luckily purchased an extended warranty , but no luck with this slide.

Hi, Great video with tons of good information. I'm about tackle a Schwintek slide that is out by 3 inches top to bottom, so an obvious gear skipping issue. I think to get the new parts installed I will need to take both sides of the system off. I'm thinking if I properly support the slide and put some 2x4 stops on the inside I'll be ok. What do you think?

Darren, you are amazing, thank you! So my daughter's fifth wheel is here at our home I'm trying to fix her Schwinn tech slide, Grand design product. The controller is throwing eight flashes, so short in motor one. Disconnected the harness between the motor and the controller, and no short in the red and black wires. No damage to the red and black wires. So we replaced the motor, same error. Seems like the side where the motor was replaced is always dragging either in or out behind the other side. Slide moves in and out perfectly fine in override mode. No gouges in the tracks. Other than the little draging. Also tried a different controller with the same results. Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

First of all, I have learned a lot from you and appreciate your hard work putting these videos together. I can only imagine how tedious it must be. I have just recently graduated from the NRVTA to become a certified technician, still learning a lot though. Secondly, I have a question in regards to the flapper seal on the outside of the slide. After you pull the seal back to expose the screw that holds the motor in place, what do you use to reseal that when you put it back. Got called on a job that I had problems keeping the seal back in place. Do you use something like sika flex?? Please help, as I am sure this won't be the first time I run into this. By the way, we here in Texas say howdy to ya!! South Texas that is.

Can you trim the driveshaft to be flush on the bottom? Will the drive shaft drop down and impede the h column going back in? Or does the bottom of the h column hold it up in place?

  • @Passiveincomewithandie

Love your videos. Our kitchen slide won’t go out. It’s closed up tight on the left. Right side only moves an inch. What do we do if we can’t get the slide out far enough to access that screw to remove the motor? We have literally tried everything suggested and nothing has worked.

That aluminum driveshaft has these small machined Burrs in it to prevent it from going down too far. If you're using the collet to hammer it down the collet will bottom out before the driveshaft goes too far so you'll be fine.

In that situation go with the next size up screw. That screw needs to be secure to the H column to be of any use in holding that motor down. The H column is aluminum so a steel screw in a thin aluminum frame will fatigue over time.

This is about the 10th video I have watched on these CRAPPY Schwintek Slides so I can feel confident enough to attempt the repair.
I can't take mine in for service because the slide will NOT come in.
How is this company still in business? I have seen failures on 1 year old RVs.
They are still in business because they rip people off for $300 for JUNK parts.
Parts that are designs to fail so users have to buy more parts.
I will NEVER again by ANY RV that has a Schwintek CRAP on it.
Mine is stuck in the out position with only one side working.
On the side that is not working, the slide is all the way out at the bottom and still in by 3 inches at the top so this means it jumped some teeth on the rack the bottom or top.
    Absolute GARBAGE products!!!

Thanks for the video, My slide got jammed and had to remove my motors to push it back in so I could head home. Will be replacing my schwintek system shortly but did build a Dewalt 20v to 12v battery adapter to drive my motor using a momentary switch to make it turn CW and CCW I made a video of it if you want to see it. czcams.com/video/5W8_xciHSiQ/video.html

I wouldn't let this client work on my worst enemies camper if you don't properly support a slide during repair you make it so it will never work properly. I use an automotive lift jack use to support parts being removed or I stalled when the vehicle is on a lift. A minimum of one on each side with a stong board to support entire slide and the lifting of slide makes it possible to stabelly repair and realize the slide mechanism. This is a great how NOT to do this.
