- After building the bandsaw I had to take it apart to varnish it. I recorded the reassembly and the classic "reindeer test run".
Thanks to Matthias for making such great plans and thanks to Jarek Ostaszewski for sharing an improved version of Matthias bandsaw reindeer plans.
Building this band saw was a lot of fun... Next should be the finger joint jig.
Very impressive craftsmanship. Not just a tool, almost furniture.
Hi mate. You should be very proud, and Matthias too. This is a very nice installation.
Thanks :-)
That is a very nice build. Beautiful selection of wood and the joinery looks perfectly executed. I am considering building the finger joint jig also, so looking forward to the video.
Thanks :-)
Very solid construction of the large bandsaw. Congratulations :)
Amazing! My mind is well and truly blown! Well done!
Great inspiration for doing the varnish and paint on my Wandel bandsaw. Today I added a breadboard end to the motor mount like you have.. My 2 horse motor didn't fit the original mount. After this it is ready for finishing. Great build. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks ! I also had to enlarge the motor base to make it fit.
Nicely built! Mattias will be jealous.
envious
super !,, i'm impressed with the quality of all the parts, and the choice of different woods in diff. areas. very talented, why buy when one can make it !
Super work. Art: great. I love that work.I like the natural color .
Pozdrawiam!!Bardzo udany projekt budowy pily tasmowej!!Duzo pracy i zaangazowania,ciekawy pomysl!!Duza wiedza,tak trzymac!!Dobry material filmowy!!Majstersztyk!!
What a beautiful band saw. Fine finishing before assembly is just the ticket. Natural wood finish is so much nicer than paint in my opinion. I have the same plans and when I build it, I hope it's half as nice as yours. Cheers from Canada. ( Also watched your build for the stand. Terrific.)
very nicely done..thumbs up..
Beautiful piece of wood
Super propre, beau travail !
Pozdrawiam
Magnificently made this band saw, congratulations friend Francois Chalopin.
Excellent work!
very nicely done!
Thanks. I saw you have some nice realisations too.
Very well done!
We need to give you some 3/8 drive ratchet wrench sets and possibly a 12V Bosch drill driver. The tools look like UK stuff
Paraguay. Wow that is far away. Happy that you liked it
super réalisation, bravo. a+
Merci :-)
Very well done sir
Nice work!
Grande lavoro complimenti!
Bravo!
I have that same workbench...Except I made mine with a 5 1/2" top
Really nice
Looks beautiful. Really like the clear finish on the wheel covers (doors). Any reason you chose to build the 16” bandsaw versus the 20” bandsaw? Thank you.
I guess I'm lazy cuz I'd have varnished that baby as it stood. :-) Very nice job.
Bonsoir Monsieur,
très bon travail
Juste WAOUW ! Respect !
Merci :-)
Good morning, I am Hossein from Egypt. I have a very nice and useful video
I am preoccupied with a 6 m millimeter and a diameter of 50 m and a diameter of 18 m
1. The type of wood made by wood type granular wood is useful and do not work mdf
2. The width is 18 milliseconds and is not presented in the second
3. The last need for the Agipator is 1 horsepower or 2 hp and 3 hp
Thank you very much for your presence
Best when played at 2x :P
What a fabulous bandsaw and in wood it will make a quiet machine even quieter! I noticed the guide blocks (at 12.20) the end grain not used at the contact surface?
+Woodomain - Jeremy Broun Thanks. I didn't even think about it. It would probably be better. good idea for the next ones.
HEAVY DUTY!!!
Great! I made three times the wheels but I'm not able to set them perfectly... so there are vibrations.
cool engine from wood, wow !!!
Very nicely done! It looks better than a store bought model. Please don't ruin it by painting it that ugly green color.
Brilliant. 👍🏼
Thanks.
Nice, keep it up.
Thanks
When I first got my bandsaw I used that same template to make that reindeer haha.
Te quedo tremenda eres un profecional
hehe that poster @ 13:20
After 6 month, someone finally saw it ! Congratulations :-)
Gratulacje 👏👍
PS Jak taką piła sprawuje po kilku latach użytkowania?
Don't you find the ball bearings guiding the back of the sawblade to be very loud? I think it was also Matthias who pointed out that the bearings rotated by 90° were much quieter.
I was very afraid of that at the beginning ( I might haveI watched the same video as you did) but now that I'm using it it's really not an issue. Anyway the thrust bearing doesn't (or shouldn't) touch the back of the blade most of the time.
Great build. You find the frame is strong enough and can hold enough tension to make nice clean cuts with wide blades?
nice job :)
Thanks :-)
Nice!!!!
Looks great man. But its no green so its not complete!
Nicely done, will you be giving it a coat of Wandel Green paint?
Yeah... it is not finished until you paint it Mathias Green.
Thanks. For this one I don't think saw :-) I already gave a few coats of clear varnish
What are you thoughts on the design after [I assume] you've used it a few times?
It works really fine. If I had to change something I would probably make the wheels out of MDF instead of plywood (it's much easier to turn) But it's more a question of execution not design
François Chalopin And in comparison to a normal bandsaw you'd find in shops?
Hey! That's pretty awesome! It must have been very entertaining to assemble this machine with fitting parts. Just like LEGO ;) Does those little parts guiding the saw (12:18) warm up?
Hello M. Ek. When the saw is running without cutting or when cutting straight they don't touch the blade (or at least they shouldn'tif the saw is set correctly). They are just here to prevent the blade to move side to side when you're cutting sharp turns or really thick pieces. They will wear out eventually but not so fast. And if they do it's just pieces of wood so they are easy to replace.
Bonjour, Super boulot !!
Great work!
(Please set manual focus on your camera once you've established the shot, the autofocus is making the image "pulse" regularly as it zooms.)
Thanks. I record everything with my phone and the options are quite limited. A camera is on my buying list together with a ratchet and a cordless drill :-)
For iPhone, you can lock the focus by touching the screen to focus, but hold your finger there until it flashes and says AF Lock, which will continue to show in the window. This will lock the focal length to its last position. To unlock, tap the screen again.
Android is probably the same, but if not there may be camera apps that address this problem.
I just checked and it's just like you said on the Samsung too. If you click on an object while filming it will lock the focus on that object whatever happen. I've hat that phone for 3 years and I never noticed. Thank you very much for the tip :-)
Happy to help! It was a really cool build, thanks for showing us.
Great build! Building Matthias's bandsaw is on my todo list.
What are the specs on your motor?
Thanks. It's a 1 phase induction motor 1,1 kW 1400 rpm
Great video! You mentioned an improved version of this band saw by Jarek Ostaszewski. Is there more information available on his improvements? Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment.
He improved his bandsaw reindeer plans, not his bandsaw. Look at the full description text (button "more")
If you're interested in improvements to the bandsaw, Marius Hornberger made a great video about improving the wheels. I guess you know this one since your name sounds a little bit german too :-) but if not you can have a look :

Hej zupełnie mnie zaskoczyłeś !
Widzę François Chalopin a potem "Ostre rżnięcie" i się zastanawiam jak to się łączy ;) i wychodzi na to że czasami François to Franek.
Gratuluje i pozdrawiam
PS.
Jakiego użyłeś silnika ?
:-)
To jest jednofazowy indukcyjny silnik, 1100 kW, 1400 tr/min. Kupiłem tu : www.silnikielektryczne.sklep.pl/Silnik-elektryczny-jednofazowy-1-1kW-1400-obrmin-NOWY
Did you keep track of how much you spent on everything?
price? and were you able go get all hardware at local store or online?
Nã tenho nem oq comentar. Meus parabéns. Show.
Nice
nice look goo a sturdy to, way to use your brains , we could be friends for real.
nice
To ja mam pytanie - jeśli możesz, to prosił bym o podanie ile wyszedł ci cały koszt materiałów? Tak na około.
Génial !!!
Üdvözlöm méretezve hol lehet megtalálni ??,
Hola señor Francois me podría decir qué diámetro tienen los ejes gracias
that looks awesome! how much did it cost in materials?
around 250 $. Have a look here for more info : woodgears.ca/bandsaw/faq.html
well, only 1 Question
How 2 build this Bandsaw without using a Bandsaw to make all the Items u assembly that Saw??
I see all Pices are ready to use, u dont show how to make the Parts of the Saw
so i need a Bandsaw 2 make this Bandsaw????
Hey. That's a good question. It's easier indeed if you already have a bandsaw but it is not necessary. This is my first bandsaw and I built it without any other bandsaw. It's really useful however to have a drill press and a table saw
What watt motor you are using?
OLA BOA TARDE!! VOCÊ PODE MANDAR O LINK DESSE PLANOS? GOSTARIA MUITO DE ADQUIRIR UMA.
woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html
obrigado amigo.
How long is the shaft? Also, did you se the 25mm?
Great Video!
I'm currently building the same machine and i wonder where you got your switch from. I couldn't find one of this kind anywhere available... I hope you can help me out ;)
I bought it in a home center (Leroy Merlin, I don't know if you have this one where you come from). It's a 3-phases switch but it doesn't mattter I used only one connector and it works fine
Cost of build please? Thank you François.
GENIAL........!!!!!!,
hello, can you give the link for Jarek Ostaszewski's improve version video ? i try search in his channel, but it is very difficult for me
+Konstantin Ovsiankin domidrewno.pl/pdf/domidrewno_reniferki_v1.1.pdf
What is the bearing size you use in band saw
Do you know the total time to manufacture the parts and assemble? What was total cost of materials?
It's hard to say I dind'nt count. It took me a few month to build it but I did a lot of other stuff in between. I think if you're well organized it's doable in a few week-ends. For the cost, I think i cost me around $ 250 but it doesn't mean much. In the faq Matthias estimates the cost between $ 50 and $ 600 : woodgears.ca/bandsaw/faq.html
Okay, thank you. Nice build, sir. Due to my beginners status and limited skill set, I'd better save my allowance and purchase a bandsaw.
jaki koszt materiałów orientacyjnie na tą realizację?
ile czasu potrzeba na zrobienie tej maszyny ?
Você envia so as peças pra montar?
Nice machine :). What was the whole cost of building of this bandsaw (including plans, materials, motor etc)?
Thanks. I didn't make the calculation and it really depends on a lot of parameters. If you have all the required tools, an illimited amount of time and access to second hand parts (roller blade bearings, old motor...) it can really be cheap. The most expensive parts in my case were the motor, the wood for the frame, and the blades.
muy bueno
Gracias
Great job. How do you cut that big finger joint?
Thanks. If your talking about the bandsaw frame, it is built from a sandwich of spruce boards that are glued together board by board. Matthias made a video about it : czcams.com/video/XE1X3mvCTCc/video.html
A masz może plany super projekt
Super!
Super! J'ai bien hâte de voir ce que tu en feras!
Did he sell all the parts?
Nice job. I would like to do something like that. It is possible for you to share a blueprint of the parts?
What kind of wood did you use to build it?
For the frame I used spruce, for the wheels and table : plywood, for the wheel mount and table mount : hardwood, for the cover parts : plywood and palet wood
Have any plans for it?
Napisz proszę, jaki silnik i jakie przełożenie (średnice kół)?
Generalnie, żeby ciąc drewna prędkość tasmy musi być ok. 15m/s. Możesz wybrać dowolna prędkość silnika i średnicę kół, żeby osiągnąć tą wartość.
1400/60 * 12/30 * 0,4 * pi
