  • What you are a out to see is dangerous! It is not safe and people could be hurt! Doing this could cause injury or death. DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME! WE ARE UN TRAINED AND UN PROFESSIONAL! this is for entertainment only!
    brandon got filthy today but it was all worth it when he got too drive the chassis out from under the body! the plasma cutter made short work of all the body mounting plates. plans have changed...looks like the body may be sold whole.

    I used to see those naked buses getting driven from the factory, with the drivers in old flight suits.
    A mad sight for a kid, and probably illegal now.
    Thanks for the memory.

      he wanted to but there was no seat and the brake pedal is at too bad of an angle the way he was crouched. if you notice he bumped in the gradeall when he first started to pull out. he couldnt get the brake pedal applied hard enough.

    This very cool I am wanting to do the same thing I have a 1966 f500 I am torn on what I want to either remove my truck body and set it in the bus frame or remove engine trans and axels from the bus and use them on my truck this great I hope u make more videos to help me make my decision and I was looking more towards the 12 valve Cummins instead of the headache of the electronics of the 24

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  Před 4 lety

      i opted to use the late model frame, steering, suspension with the engine in place. much easier to put the body on another frame than fabricate everything to make engine and trans go into the older truck. not to mention the parts are much easier to source on the late model chassis.

    • @kfstreich4787
      @kfstreich4787 Před 5 lety

      They are rotated out of service at 15-20 years old, pretty cheap on the secondary market for what you get, the price of an engine and transmission gets you a bus.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  Před 7 lety

      the plasma cutter cut the time down considerably. the body mounting plates were very difficult to get to and the bolt heads were rusted far enough that getting a socket to grip was impossible. it looks the body may be sold as of right now.

    J.C., read the capitalized stuff for the gist of this rant that you know about. This'll bug me if I don't ask you. I'm a School Tax payer like everyone else. It's a property tax here. School taxes never go down unless we, the school district voters, refuse to fund the proposed budget. That bus looked pretty decent to me. If the other ones are roughly in the same shape, WHY WERE THE BUSES TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE? This one had no visible rust, it wasn't too torn up inside and the mechanicals are ok to reuse (some) or you wouldn't have bought them.
    Second: You took off the whole body, rather than cutting the "cab area" out of it first. IS THERE A MARKET FOR OLD, USABLE BUS BODIES." RATHER THAN COMPLETE BUSES? (Fantasy) "FRESH FROM THOMAS, REFURBISHED SCHOOL BUSES, ALL NEW MECHANICALS FOR RELIABILITY AND EASY SERVICING.... 8-) ) Around here the schools use a school bus company for their buses, easy to budget and they don't have to fight the voters for each new bus and how they dispose of the old ones. Voters want the District to get the most money possible from them.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  Před 7 lety

      Bob Pegram I chose to remove the whole body after spending hours looking at how it was built. this as well as the others were removed from service due to age and overall condition. it looks good in video but the realty is after 14 years on the salty Ohio roads.....the underside is very rusty. these bodies do serve a "repurpose" in our area....farmer sheds, feed storage, equipment storage. It would not be cost effective to repair this body and reinstall on another chassis.
