Je suis irlandais. Je me souviens de ces velos de course Raleigh quand j'etais jeune. A cette epoque les velos francais et italiens n'etaient pas si courants en irlandd.
Vous avez fait un merveilleux travail restauration avec ce velo !

J'ai le même, de 77 et je l'adore. En Simplex slj argent. Roues campas grand flasque et selle cuir brooks. Quand je sors avec, tout le monde vient voir la bête car il fait un peu velo compet ancien, puis il est beau surtout. A noter que tous les vélos que j'ai restaurés et regraissés roulent comme des vélos neufs après.
I had one of these and loved it. Now I am rebuilding my '85 Schwinn Voyageur that I've been riding for over 30 years. I bought a new bike last year but it doesn't have nearly the comfort of my beautiful old Schwinn.

my team raleigh record sprint is earlier , but a fantastic bike ! very easy to ride ! i found it ....really , i found it at the backyard of my work , with all parts original , it was a dream-found ....
the best bike i ever repaired , i ever ride ! better than my peugeot PA10 , i´ll never won´t sold it !

Those SunTour power shift ratcheting shift levers are the nicest friction levers ever made! I am lucky to have a few pairs of them.

The simplicity of the bicycles makes them beautiful and magnificent. Disc brakes really spoilt the good look of the bicycles. it truly is the biggest gimmick in the history of bicycles. it is really sad.
I agree with you from an aesthetics perspective. That said, I wouldn't call discs brakes a gimmick. Their performance superiority over calipers is indisputable.
In my opinion a bike with electronic shifting isn't a true bike, and a road bike with discs isn't a true road bike!
I would argue disc systems are typically heavier, and rim brakes are more than good enough

I had one of those with Dura-Ace 6 speed friction shifters. I loved the dura-Ace pedals toe clips... I miss that bike...

In 83, I had an Ilkeston built 531 team replica frame built. I used Suntour Superb Pro mechs, and Modolo brakes. Gipieme chainset finished it off. Cool bike....😎
I remember Suntour and Sugino and Campagnolo Athena, Modolo. Mavic made the most beautiful crankset EVER...all gone into a rich history. 531, that would be a Reynolds double butted 531 for you young-uns. ( back when you said cromoly but didn't know how to spell it)
In 83 I put together a worksop 531c team pro with suntour gear. Sedisport gold chain, Bernard Hinault Turbo seat. Olympic Montreal sprints. Still own it. Still looks good though it's wrapped in loft and I just use a generic alloy/carbon disposable modern pig instead

I couldn't tell you how many bike builds I did as a kid with the Cyclone and Superbe group sets. That is until I could afford Campy.
I’ve just rebuilt a Bio Racer frame in Orio tubing with Suntour superp pro .I had to eBay world wide to obtain the components, ended up super record hubs and BB. I understand that DeRosa built frames for Bio Racer ??
I had suntour changers and shifters on my Raleigh team pro. Still have it.

Les freins Weinmann me paraissent un peu inferior au reste du velo. Je suppose que c'etait tous qu'il avait en Angleterre pendant les annees 70. Le derailleur Suntour est vraiment beau et bien fait et le pedalier Sakae est fait afin de paraitre Campagnolo Nuovo Record. Pour ma part je chercherais des freins Gran Compe. J'entends que l'idee est de restaurer le velo a l'original mais j'aurais fais la meme chose il y a 40 ans avec un velo tout neuf.
Beau video. J'espere que quelqu'un jouisse (?) de monter ce velo regulierement donne l'effort que vous avait fait.
Le derrailleur Simplex , est-il [encore] possible de l'acheter au Portugal ?

Cool video. Steel is SO dear to my heart, but....I had to cringe during the bottom bracket install. You could HEAR the grime and dirt crunching around when the adjustable cup was installed and once the cranks were installed. And, steel cup....steel frame?.....grease your threads folks. The one place rust will show up is the bottom bracket. Otherwise....really loved the video!

Suntour Cyclone rear derailleur is a beauty!!!
I replaced it with a Campagnolo to be able to install a 14x28 freewheel.

Beautiful bike the lack of grease was doing my head in though bar stem, seat post, crank arms, pedal threads, bb threads. Unless that was just for quickness for the video and taking these items off and doing it properly afterwards.
Don't panic. It's not filmed to make a short video. You can watch my other video to see a lot of grease.

je ne connais pas le rayleigh record mais sur mon pied d'atelier il y a un raleigh eclipse ( milieu 80 je crois ) ..... une petite sortie de 15 bornes avec lui m'a bluffé ;je me suis surpris a vouloir passer les vitesses au cintres ; c'est un petit missile sol-sol tres reactif que j'avais acheté pour quelques tartines de pain ; bonne journée et excellente continuation !

That was my third 10 speed that I rode thru teens only blue. Bent frame which was my fault trying to clear tracks at bottom of hill. Did not get enough air and did not clear last track. did not go down but bent frame I was very sad. I have rode same style for 43 years. Riding a 50 year Marsushi Japaneses 10 speed now that is almost identical.

I ride the Anjou Vélo Vintage (120km) with it, no problem.
Hate to be a hard ass but . . .the seat post. Am I the only one left who owns the old Campagnolo seat post. You know the one...or maybe you don't. Weimman, nice touch.
Do you know if all (or most) components are the original equipment?
I bought a bike with the same frame but completely different components (Campa Gran Sport dereilleurs, Ofmega cranks, Universal brakes, French handlebar and stem).
Although there are lots of old Raleigh catalogs on the web I could not find one with this bike anywhere.
My bike have the original equipment Suntour Cyclone. Only the French wheel set (Normandy/Mavic) are not original parts.
Clearly this is not even an original Ti Record… It has fender mounts (the lil lugs). It's some touring/sports bike frame with an iconic paint job, not a even a team replica road bike. Would have not invested that much time in it...

Can you recall Raleigh record it was more of a touring bike .I had a strange set up .I don't know tech name for it. The front chain ring that kept turning when you top pedaling, you could change gear while freewheeling . I have search the net

@@Jordanmilo I am not sure I had it only had it for a short while left hand crank wouldn't stay on . Went back to Raleigh three times . Gave up bought a Carlton Pro-Am .

I found a 1978 black 59cm raleigh grand prix at the curb for trash i slammed the brakes and got it into my car and taking care of it now chez nous a l'interieur.
More of a reassembly than a restoration but entertaining nonetheless.

Je viens de faire l'acquisition d'un raleigh record.
Il a des freins Universal CX à tirage latéral mais à l'arrière du cadre j'ai une boucle qui doit servir pour des freins style mafac
Ma, question est que dois je faire ?
Couper la boucle pour plus d'esthétisme ou remettre des freins Mafac ou laisser tel quel ?

Le vélo a dû être modifié. À l'origine il devait être monté avec des freins à tirage latéral genre Universal ou Weinmann. À vous de voir, je trouve ça dommage de couper l'arrêt de gaines car ça va se voir

C'est ma première vidéo. Elle a été publié en août 2017. J'avais moins de vélo dans le garage. Depuis je fais toujours une petite présentation et je mets de la musique. J'ai fait évoluer le concept. My 1978 ''all Campagnolo'' Roberts is a much classier bike.
Seatpost inserted about 15 mm. That's not what the manual recommends to do... neither does good sense. Safe rides to You Fred.

Brakes are wrong way round :)
the british and aussies do right front left rear(maybe to do with left-handed traffic). The rest of the world does right rear left front.
Since it's a raleigh and I assume he is from America he did it correctly.

Weinmann brakes. They always were on the "wrong" side. Never got used to that.
@@VadersRage It depended on the quality of the Weinmann side pull brake, the higher levels of Weinmann brakes had the "arms" on the same side as Campagnolo and Dura Ace.The brakes on this video are not of that quality.
