    Kershaw is easily one the best pitchers of all-time. As a unbiased Yankees fan I was extremely happy to see him finally win that World Series championship. Doesn’t Kersh have a better ERA+ than Koufax? And he’s playing even after his prime.

    • @MikeCoggan
      @MikeCoggan Před 2 lety +4

      Actually Clayton has the 5th highest ERA+ ever at 155, sandwiched between deGrom at 156 and Pedro Martinez at 154. That alone is greatness, but add in at 2477 innings which is 923 more innings than the next, and twice as many as deGrom. 2 of the pitchers were from the 1920s Negro League and Mariano is at the top so not apples to apples. Clayton has done it at that level for longer than any other pitcher EVER. A career ERA of 2.49, WHIP of 1.0 and a BAA of .209 over 15 years.
      His winning % is also 5th at .691 behind a guy who pitched in the 1870s, 2 Negro League pitchers and Spud Chandler who won 109 games with the bulk between 1940 - 1943 - WW2 years.
      A little added perspective Clayton's career OPS against is .583. The Reds are at the bottom of the MLB this year with a team OPS of .585 - and Clayton has made all of his opponents the 2022 Reds for his entire career of 15 years.
      I just looked this stuff up and I knew he was great, but I was even surprised. There is a very strong argument that he is the greatest starting pitcher of all time.
      Here's a thing too, Clayton has done it in a time of TV, internet and social media on a large market team - which means more scrutiny under a microscope and has always handled himself well.
      Better man off the field

      @@MikeCoggan Thank you for bringing the stats up. I also wanted to point it out that as science and tech developed, players have been getting better and better overall than the previous generations. • @MikeCoggan
      @MikeCoggan Před rokem +1

      @@lloydyoo740 and early on, their bullpen was crappy, and they would leave him in to long. I played through college, coached when my kids were playing and have an umpire for the last 15 years When a pitcher has only given up soft contact for 6 innings and he gives up 3 line drives...even if they are outs it is a sign they are done. I was known for having a quick hook, but I didn't want to set up anyone to fail, I would rather pull them before too much damage and have them leave on a better note. I remember a game, I think against the Cubs in 2016 playoffs, Clayton was great through 6, as I recall it was warm and in the 7th they hit 4 or 5 rockets....as soon as the first one,I would get someone up in the BP , and after the 2nd or 3rd would have taken him out

Half of those wins we're during WW2 years ,1940-1943 when he was 54-19 those 4 years. Not only war years but also pre+integration.
