Over-hauling the Siskiu N7 | Worn out bushings | Part 1

  • Hello, In today’s video, we are taking apart the entire bike to give it a clean and inspection. I knew the bushings where worn out, but the bike still made some creaking noises. Some of the bearing on the linkages are starting to feel a bit rough. I’ve only had the bike for 4-5 months and it’s been having tons of issues. Hopefully everything gets sorted, as I’ve been upgrading all the broken parts with high quality ones.
    Bushing dilemma - I contacted bikes online about the bushing wearing down. After a week of communication, they agreed to sell me bushing for $27. A bit pricey, but at the time I had no other choice. 3 days later, they come in the mail. The bushing where the WRONG size. Having to contact them again, it’s been slow customer service and them being hesitant about everything I tell them. It’s always just one email they send a day, unless it’s time for me to pay. Here are the bushings that I bought (Have yet to receive them, coming tomorrow.’

      Hello, I received the bushings and the inner diameter of the bushing (14mm) is slightly too big. There is the slightest play when checking, so I don't think it'll be an issue.

    Just checked those bushing bolts on my N7 and they appear to be WAY over torqued. Perhaps this is a reason for the plastic bushings failing so prematurely?

      What I said above- You might have to take it apart initially to check if bearing are greased so no parts wear down super fast. If your bushing wear down, you can buy some from igus.com. You just need to measure your inner and outer diameters to get the correct size. If you're able to wait until corona dies down and the bike market comes back to normal, it might be worth looking into Yt or Commencal. The thing I learned through all of this is that yes, this bike is a really good deal, but you do get what you pay for. You might not be getting as good of a deal with bigger brands, but they are reputable for good reasons. If you're on a tight budget and have mechanic skills, the polygon will work fine, just know it has its cons. Thanks for watching!

    I am having the same problem with the chainstay/seatstay pivot bushing on my N7. I am about to order new ones from Igus. Did you use the Igus bushings? If so how did they perform? I see in some of your other comments that they may not have fit well? Thanks in advance.

      You will need four. I received the bushings yesterday and the inner diameter of the bushing (14mm) is slightly too big. There is the slightest play when checking, so I don't think it'll be an issue.

    Well now I'm a bit worried, I ordered a 2021 Siskui T8 and I will be getting it next month. I will be very frustrated if this is a common issue.

      @@Kaedenfu If I end up getting new bushings, that are higher quality do you think that will last longer?

    • @Kaedenfu
      @Kaedenfu  Před 3 lety +2

      @@skuzzy115 It would last longer. I’m not sure if I got a faulty bushings, but I haven’t heard anyone else have issues with bushing on polygons. The bushing I got from igus is the L280 series, which is suppose to be the best plastic flanged bushing they have. On the N series , the bushings is a different color than the T series, so they might be different materials.

      @@Kaedenfu That is good to hear that it is typically an easy fix. Annoying but I guess not that big of a deal.

    hey man, I looking at buying either the n7 or the T8. seems like you have some experience with both. any thoughts or recommendations? thanks!

    • @Kaedenfu
      @Kaedenfu  Před 3 lety

      Hello, the N7 is good for the chunk but it’s still pretty practical. It climbs good and is a good climber for what it is. If you prefer the downhills, the n7 is for you. The t8 is more for a person who wants to be the fastest as it’s super efficient. It’s super poppy and pumping and tricks are much easier than the n7. Making an update video on the n7 that should be coming out on friday or sunday. It gives all of my opinion on Polygon and if i recommend the bike.

    I have a T8 that I got in mid-March and started riding a few weeks later. It unfortunately came with a stripped derailleur hanger and a stripped cassette lockring. I noticed after 4 rides because of so much play in the cassette and the derailleur as well. I emailed Bikes Online (USA customer like most of us here I assume) on Apr 26, got a response Apr 29 asking if it was actually stripped...
    I responded yes and as of today, May 10th, have not received any response from them.
    While the bike has great reviews and really is fun to ride, it's also become the noisiest bike I've had due to all the play issues. The customer service is questionable.
    Is there a dedicated forum somewhere for Polygon owners? Please lmk if you know of any.

    • @Kaedenfu
      @Kaedenfu  Před 3 lety

      Dang, and I thought I was in a bad situation. Obviously the costumer service is bad, maybe we should start a forum on PinkBike. I had to resend the email every 24 hours if they didn’t reply. On my N7, the casette came loose too, and caused the bike to be super noisy. Luckily mine wasn’t cross threaded/stripped.

    is it possible to put a bearing instead of a bushing in the rear pivot?

    • @Kaedenfu
      @Kaedenfu  Před 2 lety

      Possibly. I thought about doing that when I had the bike. I’m definitely not an expert on that kind of stuff, but I can’t see it not working. You’d have to get the exact measurements where the bushings sit, then press one or two bearings in the hole. Then you’d have to get a spacer so theirs not a ton of movement. My diamondback had that exact set up and never had problems with it. I don’t understand why polygon didn’t just do that.
