The Mysteries Of Islam's Most Sacred Site | Absolute History

  • The Sacred City presents compelling evidence that suggests the holy city of Mecca is in the wrong location and that the worlds 1.6 billion Muslims are praying in the direction of the wrong city. Compiling evidence from both historic sources and new technologies point to the correct location in this seismic, revelatory new film. In this startling and original documentary, writer and historian, Dan Gibson, shows that descriptions of Mohamed’s original holy city - as detailed in the Qur’an and Islamic histories, do not match that of the Mecca we know today. If true this could shake Islam to it’s roots, because every Muslim is required to pray towards the ‘forbidden gathering place’.
If Dan Gibson is right, Muslims are praying in the wrong direction. In the film ‘The Sacred City’ we set out his evidence from within Islamic and ancient histories - while also using modern technologies - to track down the biggest secret of the last fifteen hundred years. Gibson not only finds the location of the original Mecca but also provides a convincing argument as to how such a great misunderstanding in Islamic history came about.
While clearly controversial, The Sacred City is respectful of Islam’s prophet, and does not dispute the events of the Qur’an; but shows how a deliberate attempt was made to hide from Islam, secrets that impact every Muslim today. The evidence is compelling and fascinating. In a time when the world agenda is being set by Islam, it is more important than ever for the origins and history of this world religion to be examined afresh. This is an important documentary with world-wide appeal for both religious and secular audiences. Beautifully filmed in the ruins and deserts of the middle east, the film is a detective story that investigates the dawn of Islam and will become the most talked about film for years to come.

As someone who has ghost-written several books about the early history of Islam, this is actually a very well researched and thoughtful documentary. All too often you see widely popular theories about Islam by people who don't know even the most basic facts about Islam, Islamic history, Mohammad, or the Arabic language and those are extremely frustrating. Dan Gibson does actually know what he's talking about. Whether you agree or disagree with his conclusions about Islam it's obvious to me--as someone who has studied and written extensively on the topic--that he does know the subject matter and cares about it.

Even as a non-Muslim, a Christian, I am appalled by the burning of so many books. It seems to me to be a terrible act of vandalism and a complete destruction of many, many historical texts. How our modern historians would have loved to have pored over so many pieces of historical writings! To say it took many months to burn all those books shows that an absolutely enormous amount of irreplaceable historical texts, of immense importance, were burned - for fuel! All the work of the scribes, the many years it would have taken them to painstakingly write out those texts, which must have been precious to them - just gone up in smoke! This is truly very sad.

I thought it was a brilliant documentary regarding Islamic History, pure and simple. Why do you have to give it a political twist? I thought it was a brilliant breakdown on Petra being the true Islamic Mecca. It has nothing to do with the current state of political upheaval. Please, appreciate Mr. Gibson's hard work for what it is - a brilliant, thoughtful, well-explained, mind provoking possibilty of the original holy Islamic city - nothing more, nothing less. Have you viewed or traveled to the City of Petra? It is magnificent. This theory was proposed by Dan Gibson, a Canadian amateur archaeologist, who claimed that early mosques face the modern direction of Petra rather than the modern direction of Mecca⁴. He based his argument on his own measurements of mosque orientations and his interpretation of historical sources.
However, his theory has been challenged and refuted by many scholars who have expertise in Islamic history, astronomy, geography, and architecture. Some of these scholars are:
    - David A. King, a professor of the history of science at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. He wrote a book called "The Petra Fallacy: Early Mosques do face the Sacred Kaaba in Mecca but Dan Gibson doesn't know how"¹², where he exposed the flaws and fallacies in Gibson's methodology and conclusions. He showed that Gibson ignored the historical and astronomical evidence that Muslims used different methods to determine the qibla (the sacred direction toward the Kaaba in Mecca) in different times and places, and that Gibson compared historical mosque orientations with modern directions of Petra and Mecca, which are not the same due to the curvature of the earth and the precession of the equinoxes. He also provided a comprehensive bibliography of works on historical qibla determinations by Muslim and Western scholars.
    - Patricia Crone, a historian of early Islam who taught at Princeton University. She cast doubt on the claim that Mecca was a major historical trading outpost, which was one of the premises of Gibson's theory³. However, she did not deny the existence or importance of Mecca as the birthplace of Islam and the location of the Kaaba. She also later on disregarded some of her theories and acknowledged that there was evidence for Mecca's role in the pre-Islamic and early Islamic periods.
    - Glen Bowersock, a professor emeritus of ancient history at Princeton University. He disagreed with Crone and asserted that Mecca was indeed a significant trading center in the Arabian Peninsula, and that there was archaeological and epigraphic evidence for its involvement in the spice trade and the pilgrimage to the Kaaba³. He also criticized Gibson's theory as a "fantasy" and a "conspiracy theory" that lacked any historical or scientific basis.

The video suggest we all muslim to research, study and show more fact in form of evidence rather than just telling story that easily could be another lie or false statement make by the elders or powerfull person. This video should encourage we, the muslim to study more and tell them the story with fact and studies, not just a word, speeches or writing form that easily make the muslim argue to each other and confiusing. We should change our ways to tell the people about the truth in islam more effective ways with fact and proves that will bring a big impact that no one can argue. Surely this video is a theory, but just look how some of the muslim react on this video. How big the effort it take to makes muslim unite into one if there is certain arguement which is not base on fact that all muslim will accept. If there is a strong prove or evidence we show, there is no arguement needed. Read, study, examinate the fact and prove it in more effective ways are needed to prevent any doubt in many claims we makes. Its hard, but surely someone should do that and spread the truth or the claims we make with fact and proves. Thats it for now. Sorry if there is any mistake from this comment, and also for my bad english. Im just taking the good moral value from the video, not to argue to anyone about anythings. Maybe im not the only person that want a clear explaination about certain things. The ways of we, the muslim telling, preaching or teaching need to be change to the better ways that more effective according to the new generation of thinking that have different mentality. Tq for reading, be good person and have a nice days everyone.

Indeed. The rock is the fallen STAR (meteorite) STAR roots the words ISHTAR, ESTHER, ASHTAROTH, عشتروت, EASTER (East Star, Venus) all goddesses of fertility. See STARbuck coffee logo). The silver frame around the rock is a silver vagina giving birth to the fallen (black rock)Star. Light, being non-material, is converted to material rock. This represents the scientifically accepted state of duality of light. In essence the transmutation of light to them three dimensional material of our world. All matter is originally light (atoms are formed in stars). That entire concept of the sacred feminine worship still present in Christian Easter and the “Virgin” Mary (Mother, Mater, Mare or Ocean). The Kaaba is covered with a new black hijab every year, similarly to the ancient tradition kept by the women of that region wearing black hijabs since pre-Islam as an homage to the sacred feminine religion. Women were considered sacred. The Kaaba was previously dedicated the the sacred feminin goddesses Ilat. Mohammed simply appropriated that building for Islam as is the cases of all religions incorporating previous religions in their customs. Unfortunately Muslims onlynsty what is inside the book as they have been brainwashed to do so since childhood. This removes critical thinking which would challenge the status quo and endanger the controllers. Unlike in the past, people are more educated today and can think for themselves. Think, think, think and the truth shall be revealed to you.

    • @joeymiami
      @joeymiami Před 3 lety +9

If you face it, wether a building, a rock or any other inanimate object, you worship it weather you are told so or not. You have been well trained not to question things.
The truth of the Kaaba runs very deep into the worship of the sacred feminine. The giver of our birth into this world.
The rock is the symbol of the fallen STAR because it is a meteorite. When those rock came down through the atmosphere they shone like stars and to the uneducated of that time this was a miraculous event worthy of reverence and remembrance. The word STAR roots the words ISHTAR, ESTHER, ASHTAROTH, عشتروت, EASTER = East Star, AKA Venus. All are goddesses of fertility. See STARbuck coffee logo, it is the logo of the same sacred feminine going back to Mesopotamia and the entire Fertile Crescent region and Arab peninsula. The silver frame around the rock on the corner of the black cube is a silver vulva giving birth to the fallen star/black rock. Star light, being non-material, is converted to material rock. This represents the scientifically accepted state of duality of light. In essence the transmutation of the non-material light to the three dimensional material that forms our world. All matter is born from light (atoms are formed in stars). We all come to this world through the sacred feminine portal of our mothers. We are transformed for a non material soul to a material person during that transit. That entire concept of the sacred feminine worship is still present in the Christian celebration of the fertility of Easter and the “Virgin” Mary (Mother, Mater, Mare or Ocean). The Kaaba which represent the sacred feminine goddess Ilat is covered with a new black hijab every year, similarly to the ancient tradition kept by the women of that region until today which wear black hijabs (why chose black in the heat of the desert?) since pre-Islam as an homage to the sacred feminine religion. Women were considered sacred in that pre-Islamic time and had more power that Arab women today. Khadijah was a wealthy business woman.
Mohammed simply appropriated the feminine Kaaba for his new Islamic system. This type of appropriation of previous customs is done in all religions so as not to upset those of the previous belief as they are slowly brainwashed into the new system within 2 generations typically. Unfortunately Muslims only study what is inside the book as they have been ordered to do so since childhood and not look beyond it. This habit of not questioning the book for fear of ridicule is passed on from generation to generation and society itself maintains that continuity bye each individual making the other abide by it lest they become shunned. It effectively removes critical thinking which would challenge the status quo and endanger the nation which derives its power from a unified people of same belief system. Unlike in the past, people are now more educated and can think for themselves and figure things out. Question everything that is taught to you especially if others tell you that it is haram. That is why God gave you life. Those who forbid you don’t really know why the do so, they just repeat “haram” as their parents did before them. They just blindly follow what they have been told without question.

@@Nehmi No it is not. It is stuck on one of the corners from the outside. It can be touched by pilgrims from outside. The black rock is not what Muslims face during prayers. The black rock is not a part of the religion and it is not mentioned in the Quran. The black rock was placed in the Kaabah before Prophet Muhammad gained prophethood. The black rock used to be revered by the Arabs during pagan times and placing it in the Kaabah was an act signifying unity. Even today the act of facing the Kaabah by all Muslims during prayers is an act of unity. Unity is huge in Islam. Beware of the many so called religious historians who try to belittle the Muslims and their religion. Don't get confused by them. They have evil intent but will never succeed. Islam has very strong foundations. Prophet Muhammad transformed and adopted Judaism, which was at that time was a racist and tribal religion and made it universal. He believed everyone is equal and everyone is of a 'chosen people'. He accepted all the Jewish prophets as Islamic prophets and also adopted all the rituals and religious practices of Judaism including Namaz. He also accepted Jesus as a prophet and accepted his virgin birth.

No they don't. The history of the bronze age is fragmented, often second hand and in more-cases-than-not, undocumented. The bronze age collapsed, taking many great kingdoms with it and very few records of this great defeat remain, save for some references to people of the sea. The iron and classical ages were documented by Greeks, Romans, Jews, Egyptians, Babylonians, Persians and Phoenicians at various stages, where they were often victims of invasion. In modern history comparative literature informs us that satire and critical literature was a feature of the renaissance and of the enlightenment. In the 20th century, cartoons, news reports, current affairs, film, art and propaganda all inform our modern understanding of history.

Unfortunately the story of destruction of these libraries by a Muslim king is fabricated by Bishop Gregory Bar Hebræus several centuries after, who doesn’t share any historical background of the atrocities he claimed had been done by Muslim kingdoms, and no longer acknowledged today. There are proven accounts of the first fire in 47-48 BCE by Caesar (mentioned by himself) and some others in following 2-2,5 centuries by Roman Empire. For further reading I advise Gibbons on this issue.

Not to be offended by the fact you trying to proves something, but study more!, we are talking about thousands of years of History. Even the history of Israel and Palestine can be mislead and Changed within few months? What else can be change in that long Period and all u have is Theory, The Holy Quran said in surah AlBaqarah (2:125) "We made the House a resort and a sanctuary for people, saying, ‘Take the spot where Abraham stood as your place of prayer.’ We commanded Abraham and Ishmael: ‘Purify My House for those who walk round it, those who stay there, and those who bow and prostrate themselves in worship.’" This is the first sentence mentioned about the direction(Qiblah) AGAIN!! we are not worshipping any starting of islamic birthplace or blackstone, We are prostrating towards one direction to Unites our religions all around the globe. Miraculously the surah (2:125) simply change into the reading of latitude 21°25' is the exact location of the Holy Kaabah. And thats is where the Miracle of the Quran took place, even the Quran is 1400+ years old without satelites God tell us to prostrate on this Ancient Kaabah long enough before Prohpet Muhammad PBUH is born. Even is you change the latitude into minutes reading which is 21°42' on the Kaabah. It still comes to the next sentence about the Qiblah , Surah (2:142) "The foolish among the people will say: “What has turned them away from their Qiblah which they used to observe?” Say: “To Allah belong the East and the West. He guides whom He wills to a straight path.”.. There are hundreds of Proves in Quran even scientific findings that is less than a hundred years are there 1400 years ago. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. @@coolfool147 Dude, how would you know that the one you worship is your creator? The answer is that you don’t really know that. You should always make sure to stay rather critical towards religion in order not to believe in flawed arguments that may potentially lead to bad outcomes for your life.Throughout human history, there’s thousands of Gods and Goddessess with different kind of religions. You can't just relying on them blindly and believe without thinking about the good and bad with the religion you were born into and think that your religion is only the true religion. Even though the majority of believers have moderate attitudes and want to practice their religion in a peaceful manner, there are always a radical groups which try to use religion for their purposes in order to start radical movements and organizations, which in turn can lead to the death of many people all over the globe. Listen dude, nobody knows exactly what’s the right way to live and if religious movements claim to know this, believe me they are for sure not the thing you want to rely on. Since the Quran had been written for so many times thousands of years ago, it is quite hard for many of you to verify what had been written in those holy books and have to rely on interpretations and translations that may often be incorrect or misleading by the imams or by the fundamentalists Muslims which can lead to quite unpleasant outcomes with a major factor for conflict. The arguments that are made by religious people can often be disproved by scientists. Yet, those who are mentaly religious still often claim that Adam and Eve exists and that is much more believable than scientific research and should rather rely on it instead of science in order to understand where we all came from. This can lead to quite dangerous outcomes since many concepts of evolution had been proven right while many religious concepts don’t. Therefore, you should make important decisions based on your own thinking and not due to religious aspects since you might get in trouble otherwise for not using your brain wisely in the long run.

To say Islam started in Petra instead of Mecca, Dan Gibson need to find Hira Cave, Zam Zam well, Location where the first mosque was constructed, location for the Battle of Uhud, Badr etc and need to prove the reason the Petran abandoned Petra for Mecca. It Is very simple that's by looking at the our shadow with the sun only.
Early morning from 6.00am to 12.00 noon we have to face alone the direction of our shadow.
And after 12.00 noon till night ,we have face opposite to the direction of our shadow.
This shadow of ours should be only with the help of the sun.
    Which gives only one direction.
Due to time passes or earthquakes if the direction changes.
this is the only way to identify the true direction.

Since you asked about our feelings, they are full of sadness for people who only cared about trying to show something that is considered self-evident to us as Muslims and among the things Installed..!
And believe me, I was wondering throughout the film about this person: What prompted him to produce the film, that he is not even a Muslim?
The answer: It is an action directed at Christians and it is a prelude to a hostile action against Saudi Arabia in favor of Greater Israel. Mecca has areas for Hajj arranged in time and place. What does a Muslim do here and do there? All of this came in texts that the Qur’an and the teachings of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, told us.
As for trade routes, there were caravans in the summer heading to the Levant and in the winter they headed to Yemen. The Okaz market gathered people and poets. There was even a Saudi newspaper called Okaz. As for the farms, it is not true that they were devoid of farms, even if we assume that there is no greenery in it. The closest place to it is the city of Taif, which is 40 away from it. Mila is one of the cities that grows a variety of fruits and is described as a piece of the Levant due to the fertility of its land.

your claim have a lot of problems:
1- We know that The First who built the Kaaba was Ibrahim and his son Ismael, because Allah ordered Abraham to Immigrate with his wife to a place which no water, no food, no crops, no trees which is Mecca not Petra (Petra have water, food, trees...) but when they reach to Mecca, he went back by Order of God leaving his wife and son in this place with small amount of food and water, after few weeks, the food and water end, so Hajar started going between Safa and Marwa 7 times searching for water and food, but she don't find anything until she heard Angel Gabriel hit the ground and then the Zamzam water that we know in Mecca appeared this water is special, even the science prove that this water is the most pure and blessed water in the earth, after that Abraham come back to Mecca to kill his Son (Ismael) but we know what happened, after that Allah ordered Ibrahim and Ismael to build The Kaaba, in certain position (Mecca) near to the place that he leave her wife and his son (Mecca) and they built it, two things also proves that that position located in Mecca, 1- because that place must be not inhabitants, but Petra is really old city older than Ibrahim himself (this proven historically) 2- that place must be in desert, without no source of living (Mecca not Petra) because after he finished the building of Kaaba, he demanded Allah to make this place full of blessings and crops so if he was in Petra why he will demand Allah to make the place agriculture if it already agriculture so even The sol of Mecca not good for growing, Allah make it possible.
2- The Prophet travelled to Ethiopia by the sea, which close to Mecca and very far from Petra
3- Petra was under the control of Romans during the first period of Islam and we know that Quraysh wasn't under the control of Romans but they was part of Arab tribes that lives individually (no country or civilization)
4- Also Petra during that time was Christian but Quraish are polytheism worshipping the idols.
5- Also Battle of Badr and Uhud occurred near to Mecca and Medina so if Quraysh was in Petra then why these battles occurred near to Mecca and above that one of reasons why Battle of Uhud occurred because Muslims stopped Quraish from going to Syria, now just imagine, Quraish in Petra and Islam in Medina, how Muslims can break the line between Syria and Quraish???
6- Allah promised to Protect the Kaaba from the Disasters until the time of destruction which will be in future when Dhu'l-Suwayqatayn will destroy it, and he is from Ethiopia, that means that Ethiopia is close to Kaaba so Mecca not Petra also Allah mentioned Mecca in The Holy book which Allah promised to protect it from hands of corrupters so Mecca exist
7- Also the word Mecca means the place where people really want to go so it's not change from Becca to Mecca but it has a meaning
    8- For The Qiblah:
People before 14 centuries don't have much of knowledge where the Qibla located exactly they aren't machines or they have GPS that's why Allah says that Qibla must be toward *Chatr* Masjid Al Haram (I already proved is located in Mecca) please put 100 lines under *Chatr* , Chatr means around Masjid Al Haram not itself 100%, and even those in Africa and Europe who put their Qibla to South Africa they are following Chatr of Mecca!
9- Also Allah mentioned the place of Prophet Muhammad by saying we made you in middle nation, of course Mecca is in exactly in middle of Arabian peninsula not Petra.
10- Also in Sahih Hadith, Prophet Muhammad mentioned Mecca as his city.
11- Also Muhammad predicted that around Kaaba tall buildings will construct
12- Just Imagine Allah/God let this mistake occur it's impossible, especially when Allah promised Ibrahim that Kaaba that he built will be gathered by million of people, so if even Ibrahim built the original Kaaba in Petra, then we will see millions of Muslims there!

    • @NeverDieIsHarD
      @NeverDieIsHarD Před 3 lety

i wont blame them to think so, since its only the hajr aswad that's been moved and not the whole kabah. from jerusalem (by abraham) to mecca/petra/becca (and if this movie is true then to the nowadays mecca).
      i even have conspiracy theory:
      - its stated that the original rock was not black
      - when theres no longer anyone pray that the time when dajjal ressurect/released and thats the mark when the time when then end of the world is near
      - a myth that when someone have too many sins they cant find their way to kabah
then does that mean that dajjal was sealed in the rock? and our prayer was a way to purify it?kissing it to teach him about love (and try not to destroy the world)?
so, dont forget your prayer no mater how busy you're. because one less prayer mean that time is nearer. and protect kabah with your life if you have to :D

@@NeverDieIsHarD agreed with your theory but i think there was a miss understanding when you said dajjal was sealed in kabah, there's Hadits which said "there was 3 places that dajjal cant even get in it was the holy city of mecca, Madinah and Masjidil aqsa because the 3 places was guarded by the angel". Then how come dajjal was sealed there when dajjal cant even get into that city? CMIIW

Am sure before the mosque is guoing to finished Muslim leaders during those time are consulted about the exact direction because that is Muhammad instructions where to face direction in time of praying.

That’s why Jesus came to abolish religion because it’s so evil, and to believe in him, because he is the truth, the way and the life and he said to love one another to love your enemies, and love your neighbor the way you love yourself, Mohammad said to kill and rape and murder.

If it is true what was said that the origin of the Kaaba is not in today’s Mecca but in Petra, why are Saudi Arabia and Jordan been decidedly muted on this issue? The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation also been noticeably quiet. Why aren’t they speaking out? And haven’t you wondered why over 98% of the Islamic historical sites in that Kingdom have been destroyed since 1985? Even the Prophet’s house in Mecca, signs in four languages warn visitors and say that there is no proof that the Prophet Muhammad was born there, so it is forbidden to make the place specific for praying, supplicating or get blessing. The house of the Prophet’s first wife, Khadijah has made way for public toilets. A Hilton hotel stands on the site of the house of Islam’s first caliph, Abu Bakr. It’s not just in Mecca either. Over a year ago, the split in Mount Uhud, north of Medina, where Muhammad was said to have been carried after being wounded in the famous Battle of Uhud was filled with concrete. A fence went up at the base of the mountain, warning visitors that it was just like any other mountains. Six small mosques in Medina where Muhammad is believed to have prayed have been locked. The seventh, belonging to Islam’s first caliph Abu Bakr, has been razed to make way for an ATM. Isn’t this odd to you? Only time will tell.

Mosque Al-Aqsa was the first Qiblah of Muslims. It is the second House of Allah built on earth. Al-Aqsa is the place where hundreds of messenger of Allah is buried. Lots of miracles happened there, it is also mentioned in the quran directly and indirectly 70 times in the Quran, where the angels have descended with Allahs messengers. AL-Aqsa mosque is the only place on earth where all the messengers prayed at the same time led by Mohammed (swa) Al-Aqsa mosque is the only mosque mentioned in the Quran apart from the Ka'bah.
So this might explain a few things.
