      Travel to Japan with a humble attitude: Try to be polite, observant and able to speak some Japanese or even just make the effort to do so: Be quiet and unassuming in public spaces.
      It seems hard for many cultures to change orientation to do these but I think they will help the experience in Japan of a tourists who is like a well mannered and grateful guest.
      The best tips for being a tourist are usually the same:
      1. If you know someone native and are able to stay with them and allow them to show you around as they live, that is the best experience.
      2. Research before you arrive so you can plan the activities that interest you the most - in limited time there is a need to be selective what you do and see and experience.
      3. LEARN SOME LANGUAGE and use it for the benefit of the native people! They invariably admire such effort in any country!
      Japan is distinctly different to a lot of cultures, so specifically, go with the attitude that you will be: "on your best behaviour." Achieve that during your stay as your goal no matter what and you will experience more of the culture aka "going with the grain" or "go with the flow".
      Finally, Japan is very rich in culture: Determine what beautiful trinkets you might wish to acquire and take back home as beautiful memorable souvenirs of your trip or holiday.

      If you plan it around your flight you can get anywhere between 1000-1500 or so depending on the time of year. Traveling out of the US East coast myself. Most are one stop flights to LA or DFW, etc first, then Tokyo.

    • @peko7446
      @peko7446 Pƙed rokem

      Which airline? I searched, for example, for April 2023 JFK-NRT and I got $1500 or less on EVA (no stopping at LAX, direct flight to TPE then NRT). Then I searched for JFK- Tokyo (any airport) and I got $1600 on JAL (non-stop JFK-HND). Haneda is closer to Tokyo than Narita. On EVA, JFK-Tokyo (any airport), I got $1039 , 1 stop in TPE. ANA is ~$1700 for a non-stop flight. At the price your saying, you can fly premium economy.
      The other option is split your flights in the US. Fly JFK-LAX then LAX-NRT or HND. Sometimes it's more economical that way. The only problem is if your initial flight is delayed, you might miss your next flight. If you do it this way, you really need to give yourself plenty of hours in between flights as a buffer in case of a delay. You also have the option of arriving a day early in LA and find accommodation for a night then get an early flight to Tokyo. Do the math, plan and decide which is best for you.

    Info from these interviews were pretty accurate, about 200-300 per day. If I recall, I spent roughly around $3500 for a 14 day trip to Tokyo and Kyoto and most, if not all that was spent on myself. Most of my spending was on food and using the train (adds up quick) even though I had the JR pass. I do have to say JP was more expensive than I was expecting if I'm being honest but when I vacation, I never let money hold me back from enjoying my time. My 14 day trip to JP was actually more expensive than my 18 day trip to Europe (Paris, Londa, Amsterdam, and Barcelona) where I only spent around $2500. Then again, all the budgeting was done by my friend at that time and we had a group of 10 people. In the end, it's all about budgeting and knowing where to go and who to contact for the cheapest prices. I'm a lazy kinda guy and I kind of just swipe as long as I personally think the price is around average or below the average compared to other places. Some people enjoy planning vacations around budgeting but not me.

      Well of course, because Toyo Hostel is located in Nishinari Ward in Osaka. It's not considered a nice area in Osaka, but foreign tourists are not bothered by that. Even some of the vending machines in that area are cheaper than what's sold in other parts of Osaka. I couldn't believe it the last time I've walked around there with a local friend and saw bottled drinks selling for 50yen.

    Japan can be really cheap if you want. Not Thailand level but still way cheaper than USA or EU.
    Food can be just 2-5 euro a meal, even sushi can be 15eu per person...
    Hotels in Tokyo 30-50 or heck cheaper. Elsewhere even cheaper...
