I worked in production out of college, and all I can think is: set up the shot, start the camera, run back on the the trail, walk past the camera, walk back to the camera and retrieve it. Walk on and repeat. Hats off, man - that is so much thought and work and energy into creating a great final product.

I don't know if you realise the sheer standard of journalism you bring to the table here. You have a sense of integrity that is getting increasingly difficult to come by in this day and age. When it comes to the "reviewing stuff" sphere of things I consider you the gold standard when it comes to credibility and independence from financial pressures. You manage to do this while also making some of the most beautiful, relaxing, educational and all-around wholesome videos I have seen. Keep up the good work!! (PS: You should check out a Finnish youtuber called Ali Leinio, I am sure you will absolutely adore him if you don't know about him already.

That smoke bug repellent reminds me of my childhood. Used to be drive-in theaters would sell those in a spiral shape with a little metal stand. You would light it up, put it on the dashboard, and be able to enjoy the movie with the windows rolled down. At that time I lived across the river from New Orleans.

I get my 15 seconds or 20 seconds of Zen, when he shows the views or listens to the rain on the tent. Great work Luke, wish I knew you in person. What a great friend you must be.

Yay! Less expensive but serviceable gear! Right up my alley! Sure, I'd love to get gear I could use for a generation. Nothing better than tried and true gear. I stumbled upon a little 2 man tent at an army surplus store that I got for 30 bucks. I've used it for at least 15 years until the poles broke. I bought repair poles, but never fixed it. I still have the little blighter! It got me through a tornado touch down near my tent, and some high winds during winter that bent the tent down almost to the ground. Small is strong!

I remember when Walmart stocked Lithic gear and that it did not last and recall Lithic items being returned to Customer Service. I would chuckle and think, yeah, Luke was right. Five hundred bucks is a helluva bargain for quality gear.

I get exhausted walking the dogs, lol, I cannot imagine hiking some of those mountains. I love the storms and snow adventures. after living in Minnesota for 35 years, I appreciate the cold and weathers unpredictable nature. my philosophy is you can always get warm, but you can only get SO naked, legally! Ha Ha give me cool temps and light breezes. Such a huge fan now and am going back to watch all your videos. Bibimbap is kind of a savory leftovers dish. Bowl of rice mixed with whatever proteins and vegetables you have. Add sesame oil, soy sauce and gochuchang and you’re in business. You can also make specific types without the leftovers. The red spicy sauce is gochuchang, a fermented red pepper. Your local Target and Walmart should carry it.

My parents and I went on a hike when I was a kid and a thunderstorm moved in quickly and a tree close to us was struck by lightning and my ears would not stop ringing for like 2 hours. It really scared me as I was afraid I lost my hearing. I’m could not hear my parents talking to me. So I would be a little freaked out to be in the woods with a thunderstorm. Glad you recorded it. I love the sound of the rain 😊. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge on your gear.

I carry a hot Thermos of coffee (4 cups) with me when camping to start things off. Yes, I'm a coffee achiever, and giving a cup of coffee to a newfound friend along the trail is akin to offering gold. Once a fellow traded me a bunch of venison jerky for a cup of hot coffee. I always pack extra instant coffee for such occasions. Hot coffee on a rainy day does wonders to keep warm inside and the damp feeling at bay. Buy budget but do not buy cheap.

Great episode Luke... Nice, suitable gear selection with relevance aimed at the high value to lower cost options. Content like this where the gear speaks for itself vs. typical review format is a good way to go.

I have been watching your shows for a long time and used to camp, but the years have caught up with me. I would suggest a show or a segment on sanitary arrangements basically for the new campers. Where to set up your dumpsite, how to set it up, and how to leave it. what kind of toilet paper to buy and other little things that no one ever talks about. I'm sure you know exactly what I mean. Thanks again for rolling back the years.

One shot when Luke says super. The tapping sound of rain on a tent sure reminds me of my camping days as a kid. I lived in rainy country. Nice forests like you have. Animals once in a while.

I admit in 2021 I started buying gear for camping and emergency use and I started with cheaper gear (venture 4th sleeping bag and a wellax sleeping pad.) But since then I've found your channel and paying more attention on what I buy and buying the more budget options. Took forever to look for a tent but decided on the teton sports mountain ultra 1 man tent partially thanks to your videos. I've also since upgraded form a cheap $10-15 chair to a one tigris chair. Can't wait to take them out later this month.
