I know tons about Amazons. There are plenty of rescue places that offer the bird and cages for around 400.00. Just make sure you get a young one that has been handled. Amazon's usually only love ONE person but will tolerate others with non bite guarantees... lol Audi loves me and has never bitten me but sometimes she bites my husband but not as hard as she could if she wanted to. She is an amazing bird and extremely smart. She is a huge joy in my life. Remember though they need a lot of love.
I got one of these guys as a rescue.. he wasn't taken care of very well so he doesn't talk much.. he's older but will live a good life the rest of his days.. it's so interesting to see what he's capable of if I spend lots of time with him.. he now gives kisses, when I got him I couldn't even pet him he was scared.. but he's so sweet!!!

He hasn't bitten for over a year now, and loves to be close to me. He talks a little, but he has the most hilarious laugh and great timing with it too. Time and Patience - oh, and FOOD .... that works great. Don't think he'll be as chatty as Audi, but we shall see.

She gets annual physical exams by an excellent avian veterinarian and is very healthy. We all love her very much including our dogs and she mimics their voices perfectly also our cats, she has fooled me many times with thinking that the cat is out in the glass sunroom where her cage is. Having Audi enriches my life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
LOL, we do also have a Cockatiel, you can hear her chirping in the background. Our Tiel L.C. doesn't not talk but she does love Audi they are best buds.

I hope when he leaves she will resume her former cute little self with her opera singing. @popkamama The cost of a bird like this is small compared to the amount of time and effort that is needed maintain and teach it. Parrots are a very high maintenance pet. If you are serious about getting one and realize that they are huge amounts of work for the enjoyment of owning one. I think at a breeder you can get a nice one for around 500.00.
Yes of course we still have our baby!! She is now into her third year. She is always bringing us such entertainment and joy. But YES parrots are a lot of work, they are very messy and when they reach sexual maturity can become hostile. So far Audi is the sweetest bird ever. She loves attention, and more than anything else she loves MY singing... at least someone does.
No parrot has ever had it so good. Yes, birds when reaching their sexual maturity can become aggressive. BUT though for witnessing many, people that came into that bird store. I saw to many getting rid of them. I worked in a pet store and ran the bird department. The novelty wears off pretty fast. People don't know how to train them to step up, people don't know how to get them to talk. In fact I am going to make a new video of her
The prior owners didn't realize how much work and attention Parrots need. I waited two months before I even attempted to touch her. It paid off and the first time I reach for her she snuggled my hand. She was dying for me to pat her head. I was scared but she has never bitten me. She bites my husband on occasion.. she loves woman, I guess it is a girl thing between us. I also spend the most time taking and singing to her. Sad when birds are placed in home after home. Meanwhile they only live to be a hundred! If this is a male, just wait until he turns hormonal at 5 or 6--that's when most people rehome them because their bite can do permanent nerve damage. Not that I don't wish you and your bird the best, but people should visit a rescue and see how many people have turned in their blue fronts. I am fostering a 20-something wild-caught bf btw.

We have had Audi now for 5 years and that video of her was taken two days after we adopted her. We love her so much and she knows so many more words and songs now. @randersonrn as much as I understand adopting, birds are different and it is very difficult to bond or fix birds that have bad issues like screaming and biting. A young bird comes without any baggage.

@pinkdreamer1000 As long as her toys are natural wood with NO paint on them I would say they are lead free. Birds LOVE to chew on wood, it has nothing to do with you're texting or her jealously of it. She has no clue you are texting, I wish they would be that smart. If her toys are painted make sure that the paint is lead free and you should have no problems.... Audi loves colored painted toys and she chews them right up.

@Ashbionic, Before you make this investment read EVERYTHING you can about Amazons. Do not rush into getting a bird. YES, all birds are a lot of work and they do make a huge mess. They create a lot of bird poop and they like to shred things up for entertainment. They can learn bad habits too. The food can be expensive for them. I strongly suggest for you to read and go to a bird avery and ask more questions. If you get one, get a baby that has NO bad habits to start with.

Always have to make sure you don't bring hand or face too close too quick, and must be extra careful around guests and animals. Almond in hand is sign of friendship. Sometimes comes on shoulder and allows head rubs when it wants to. Usually don't like touchy touchy, but allows you to come close when it wants to. I don't like put a blanket over the cage and leave door open. Didn't clip it's wings and don't like to make pepi act like a human. Helps to be vegetarian and not have carpeting

I have a background of birds and hand feeding them since I was working running a huge bird department. Audi was brought to us by some people that had adopted her and had 0 clue what THEY were doing. Audi loves us and her monster size double bird cage, we took out the center divider so she has the entire cage to herself with natural driftwood perches.
Hi I am planning to adopt a Blue fronted Amazon bird wanted to understand, the vocabulary capacity of the bird as in the the ability to mimic words & their averages life span in captivity if properly nurtured.
They can live 60-80 years. There have been reports of some living to 100+. Ours is 38. I consider them to be the #2 talkers in the parrot world along with Yellow Heads and Yellow Napes. Of the 5 birds we have, our African Grey and our Blue Front out talk all of the others. All of our birds are rescues. Bless your heart for wanting to adopt.

Hi so mine has blue and yellow mixed on the top of his (pretty sure it's a him) head, and he only goes on my shoulder, and hates the cage and always escapes it. How do I teach him how to talk and be friendly? Do they like being petted?
Amazon parrots normally love to be petted on their head towards the back of it, they'll normally bend their head down to be scratched there. To get your bird to speak you need to interact with them a lot, figure out if they prefer music over speaking and sing to them, you don't have to have a good singing voice they don't know the difference. What really worked for me was playing CZcams videos of other Amazon parrots. I would play the same video over and over and over again, then Audi would surprise me by picking up a few words, and then memorizing the entire video. Best of luck, your patience will be rewarded in time. You have to bond with your bird, trust is absolutely essential.
Don't buy an Amazon (unless you're fully committed). You have NO idea of how much time it takes to care for it and how much trouble it can get into. I know. I had a blue front amazon from more than 38 years.
Please screen in that porch. Even birds with 'clipped' wings can get into a lot of trouble, very fast if something startles them. They are like 'perpetual toddlers' and need constant supervision. Please think in terms of 'bird first'....

The males tend to be aggressive, the females just dig into drawers and anything else that looks like a cavity in a log for a nesting site.

Please screen in that porch. Even birds with 'clipped' wings can get into a lot of trouble, very fast if something startles them. They are like 'perpetual toddlers' and need constant supervision. Please think in terms of 'bird first'....

do these amazon parrots bite allot? and can you keep them on your shoulder?
No they don't usually bite and, yes, they are happy sitting on your shoulder. At least mine was.
