The lyrics are actually quit deep. The Unicorn symbols the jewish people Being unique and different, having to stand alone against haters.
"No I'm not your enemy" is a call for peace with our neighboors.
"History caught in a loop, don't you wanna change it?" also refers to the history of Israel and the Jewish people.

Thank you for the reaction. Yes, Noa is signed to Atlantic Records, she released 4 songs with the label: “Thought About That”, “Gone”, “Bad Little Thing” and “Please Don’t Suck”. She has two more English songs, which were released before she was signed to Atlantic: “Drum” and “SLT”. She also has many Hebrew songs, I think the ones you would like most are “Deja Vu”, “Provocative”, “Bling Bling”, “Pantera”, “Pouch”, “Paamon” and “Million Dollar”

Unicorn" has VERY meaningful lyrics! (This is my take as an Israeli, but as it is a work of art, it is open to different interpretations, so yours is valid as well! :))
Here are the main points to understand:
The song is about the relations between Israel (The "I" in the song) and those who perceive her wrongfully as their enemy (The "You").
To all her neighboring countries, Israel stated time and time again "We are not your enemy!" (In the song "No, I'm not your enemy")
Also, the fact that the Jewish ppl are originated from ancient Israel ("Do you want to check my DNA?"), and not a colonial foreign power, as falsely accused by its enemies.
As you may know, There is a vicious cycle of violence going on in our region for more than a century that we must break and change ("History caught in a loop, Don't you wanna change it?"), cause Israel is attacked time and time again ("If you're gonna do it, don't do it", ) and is forced to respond.
The music also contains elements of the Israeli national anthem - called "Hatikva" - The hope. One of the symbols of Unicorns is Hope and Success, and also strong healing powers.
Notice also the colors in the Music Video, they are very meaningful as well! The ceiling is all-red, she wears all-black (Symbols of violence and grief) and switches to colorful outfits when she sings the Unicorn parts from black & white - Those parts represent the hopeful and successful future ("That I won't look back, I won't look down, I'm going up").
The fact that it's all upside-down! (Not a normal reality) They are all very symbolic!
About the Unicorn part in particular it represents the Success, empowerment, and uniqueness of a person or a nation that is always moving forward no matter the circumstances or the obstacles.
Hope all this helps to clarify the lyrics. 😊

Well we figured she was using "unicorn" as a metaphor, but it's still a word that native English speakers probably wouldn't use in a serious way

U.K.'s entry in 1996, Just A Little Bit with Gina G, is a must-see, recently uploaded on the Eurovision Song Contest channel. One of Eurovision's songs that are impossible to understand why they did not win the contest.

Wow, never heard the studio version of this. It's miles better than the live version. Yes, the unicorn part is cringe at first, but the rest of everything is so great that you quickly forgive that part and just go with it. I'll be adding this to the USB memory stick I keep plugged into my car stereo. I'm not sure that some writers in Eurovision, that don't have English as their first language, realize that some words or concepts aren't thought of very well by other cultures. I'm sure they just think a Unicorn is a strong powerful figure. Highly desirable , but hard to obtain. Not silly and uncool.
I was thinking that if you were to add "American First Time Hearing Eurovision_______________" . It might get more clicks. It might seem more interesting to some if they know you are a Eurovision Novice. I don't know. Just a thought.
Marissa, you are getting me to listen to songs that I had passed on because the live versions just didn't impress me much when I saw them. Thanks for that. Looking forward to more.

I’ll add to the comments and say, that this is EUROVISION. Your song is competing against dozens of other songs and needs to stand out. There’s nothing that is more “eurovision” than countries sending “unorthodox” songs to stand out amongst all other songs, and there have been much weirder songs throughout eurovision history, and when done right, they even win. Israel’s last win made chicken noises throughout the song. It’s honestly part of the fun of the competition. I’d also add y’all should check out and react to her other music, and specifically her Hebrew music.

Was not a huge fan of this song on the night of the show. Was really surprised when it came 3rd. Her vocal performance and the unicorn theme didn't excite me. This version is really good though. I can't imagine you guys reacting to a whole contest. It's 2 semi final shows, that take nearly 40 songs and whittle them down to 20 for the final show. The voting is a long suspenseful , tension building process that is exciting. To me anyways. It would take forever and we all know Tyler's aversion to editing, lol 😛 The host countries presenting is usually tedious and awkward except for Sweden. They always do it well. There is a song from the hosts of the 2016 contest that you really really must see. It's called Peace, Peace Love, Love. The entire performance is one Gigantic inside joke that is quite amusing. Glad you are continuing on this journey. Hope you get to some of my favorites someday. Although I know Marissa is a Sweden hater, lol😛

her vocals were very good considering that she was constantly moving. the jury definitely took that into account. also the unicorn is a jewish symbol, you have to know jewish history to understand what it’s about

i like the song but yeah the lyrics are all over the place. to me the song is about israel and jews being outsiders without ever explicitly saying it (all the songwriters for unicorn are israeli) but then it starts to sound like lady gaga gibberish and the dance part just doesn't fit in with the song to me. the unicorn thing she does and the "you want to see me dance" thing is what makes me cringe lol. anyway i'm guessing the song is called unicorn and mentions unicorns because unicorns are rare which makes them outsiders not fitting in (although being a unicorn does have several different meanings which have nothing to do with each other). she could have used the image of a dark horse or black sheep but i guess unicorn just sounds better. i think the video though is super cringe especially the power ranger style outfit.
