Instant classic. The sense of constant dread done well is so satisfying.
Honestly, the closest film I can think of in terms of entertainment value/extreme horror moments would be 2013's Evil Dead. Saw that in the theatre too and was blown away. Great story as well with a gnarly 3rd act.
Have you ever seen a French horror movie called High Tension? I highly recommend it if you appreciate a great horror movie.
I have and definitely agree! It's underrated imho,. I've read so many negative things about this movie, but I saw this in theatre's with my dad and was blown away by the ending! It's honestly hard for me to rewatch because of how brutal the home invasion was...to this day, it still holds up! @@kellyaustin7487
I think the film Green Room comes close when things go south, it happens fast, several shocking out of the blue moments. No demons but 💀
How did she know which goat was possessed in the flock? Obviously after the gunshot it's clear, but several goats are looking at her before and they all have those slit pupils (someone said to watch its eyes but I still just don't see it). I've played it back a dozen times but before Ruis shoots the air they all just look like goats to me? Granted, every one of them looks sinister. It's driving me mad trying to see whatever sign first gave it away to her.
Btw, Satanic Hispanics is an anthology and as far as I know, Damien Rugna only directed one segment from that movie.
I’m on the look out for films that are as effective as both terrified and when evil lurks but I haven’t really seen many films as of late lucky to have gone to see WEL. Some of my favorite films I’ve been lucky to watch recently is ‘Speak no evil’ which is super unsettling

I got a chance to see this in theaters when I went to see Saw X. Easily in the Top 5 of best horror movies of the year. I wasn't scared but - as you said- there are scenes that genuinely shocked me to the point of having to take a few seconds to recover. That says a lot for someone who has seen movies like The Sadness and Terrifier 2 and loooooooved them. My only concern is that people are gonna pass on this movie due to the simple fact that they don't like movies with subtitles. And that is a shame.
El páramo (2011) is a movie that mixes the war and terror genre, specifically Colombia's Internal war. It was written and directed by Jaime Osorio Márquez. There are other movies with the same name so make sure is the one made in Colombia.

This movie is the first movie since Pet Sematary that scared me I was terrified and being a dad of two young daughters I wont watch it again omg. I know the scene you are talking about I yelled (what the fuck omg !!)

It's definitely going to build a huge cult following. It's really good. 3rd act drags a bit, but the ending is made up for it. Talk about bleak.. fuuuuuuuuck lol
Better than heredity? I don’t know about that buy hey that’s your opinion. Honestly hereditary was more unsettling to me and more enjoyable not saying this movie is bad but not worth the hype.
I appreciated Hereditary so much on a first watch, but unfortunately it didn’t stand the test of time for me.
@@DylanAnglin_ agreed... loved Hereditary when it first came out, and eventually watched the 4k disc and was disappointed. Like "Mandy," I don't expect When Evil Lurks will ever disappoint. Pure brilliance from start to finish.

I don’t get the hype for this movie at all. The over the top, shrill acting ruined the movie for me. Also thought most of it was unintentionally funny
This movie annoys the shit out of me and I'm a big fan of horror movie!
1. The main character is turned up to 11 all the time. He's always angry, screaming and yelling! No Joke, I had to turn down the volume every time he speaks.
2. I walked out of the movie thinking... WHAT did I just watch? The plotline is incoherent and unclear. It's like a bunch of gore thrown together into a pot just for a shock value
3. Everyone in the movie is acting non-sensical
I don't know what exactly happening in the movie and WHY... Things just happen seemingly at random.
Better than Hereditary?!? That is a WILD take lol.
I'm sorry but I don't think this film is very good at all.
My biggest issue with the film is how dumb the characters are. I don't know how many times the characters needed to be told not to shoot the demons but apparently it wasn't enough. The main character hires a "cleaner" to help him kill this demon and in instead of listening to cleaner he listens to possessed children all while being told not to listen to the possessed children.
I really did want to like this movie because I did think it did things really well like the lore of the possessions and the kills/gore were pretty gnarly and surprising but overall I was just turned off by how dumb the decisions being made were.
This movie put me to sleep. Boring, not even slightly scary. Just blah gore FX. I just didn't like it even a little.
Watched it yesterday. Loved it.
