Matt, Ricky, Walter, and Liz's trip to the San Diego Zoo was met with a great surprise when one of the trainers was spotted walking around with a Timberwolf on a leash.
Such beautiful animals. I would love to live in a place where I could be near them. :) Interracting with wild animals is such an amazing (and humbling) experience. Building trust and learning to respect their instincts...
My brother has wolf hybrid with very high wolf content. He is extremely submissive and loves all dogs. Cats bring out his prey drive really bad though. And no I do not trust him alone with my boy who is 7. Not because he is vicious, just because he is over 100 pounds and very playful. As a pup he was very timid and scared of strangers but regular socialization served him well. Now he loves meeting new people and dogs
all you stupid people that want to set the wolf free mabe you didnt think about that the wolf never lived in the wild or maybe its orphan maybe that was born in that zoo.. and I dont think he is not having a good time by the look of his face.. Sure the right thing is to set fim free but thats not always the better for him. Keep that wolf happy!
Wolves are very timid in reality unless threatened. Otherwise, they do well as pets as long as there are no loud, noisy children or surprises. My dad's friend had timber wolf/malamute mixes (> 75% wolf) and we used to play with them gently. They would run at anything that startled them.
I learned somewhere that all dogs descended from wolves but I think the Akita must be a sort of direct breed from the wolf line. They grow as humongous as wolves and are generally regarded as unreliable in their behavior towards humans. I am also inclined to believe that wolves, even when raised in captivity, NEVER become 100% docile. They probably lose part of their wild counterpart's hunting instincts but I don't think they lose their defensive and aggressive personalities altogether. Just maybe toned down. I think it is for this reason that the Akita is noted for the second highest number of attacks against humans in the US.
+tuberobotto All dogs descended from wolves, but some dogs like the spitz breeds (huskies, malamutes, akita, etc) did not breed out their more independent behaviors as happened with other breeds. Also wolves raised in captivity can be tamed, but they are not domesticated like a dog. To domesticate a animal takes several generations of breeding the most human-friendly animals together. When breeding wolves for domestication, you end up with dogs.
You mean American Akita or Japanese Akita? There is actually a huge difference, Japanese Akitas are on the smaller side, medium sized dogs, American Akitas are GIANT.
Beautiful animal! People are always worried about wolves or dogs with wolf bred in them turning on people. Well, if you dont respect them, then why would they respect you? How is it that the Indians lived with wolves, even have wolves as pets. Plenty of documentation to prove how close of relationship Indians had with wolves. They respected each other!
@TheSimuska1 you can say the same thing about any animal in captivity. Animals are animals. However we as humans(some of us) still respect the symbiotic circle of what the world should be like. I am best friends with my timber wolf. Best friend that I have ever had.
+ورد البنفسج Where he's fed regularly, kept in a pleasant environment, and protected from hunters and rival packs. Get over yourself. Zoos are made to help people understand how nature works and help instill an appreciation for nature's splendor. They are anything but "prisons."
+Timmy Reobed - "Zoos are made to help people understand how nature works and help instill an appreciation for nature's splendor" Awww... the Disney version. Zoo's are created to generate money... nothing else.
Mark Alan Awwww, look at the little edgelord, thinking that there's only one type of business person. Yes _Some_ zoos only exist for money. But do all of them? NO. THe world isn't black and white. Not all zoos are run by corporate douchebags. Get over yourself.
Timmy Reobed Yes, every one of them. Has nothing to do with Corporations, has everything to do with MONEY. The only ones that don't are sanctuaries or rescue facilities. 'The world isn't black or white' what is that even supposed to mean in this instance? The zoo is a gray niche'? Educate yourself before you naïvely spout out an idolized view of reality.
What a beautiful animal. I am getting a wolf dog, part German Shepherd and part Timberwolf in the middle of July. I can't wait till he or she is here by my side. The litter wont be born till the first of June sometime. He or She will be well taken care of and very well trained. Again, I can't wait.
+Larry Jones Training wolf dogs is a myth. You will be the one trained, and your hybrid will likely wind up in a sanctuary. Such breeding is done for greed, and unfortunately the animal pays the price. Please reconsider before you are gravely disappointed and face the agony of sacrificing a creature you wanted to love and care for. I don't doubt your sincerity for a moment, so asking you to seriously educate yourself.
Shows how much you care for your future animal. Telling someone to shut up for offering advice on owning an incredibly sensitive animal is immature, and such immaturity is one of the hallmarks of a bad owner, of all kinds of animals. Seriously, educate yourself first. Wolves and wolf hybrids are very sensitive, with wildly varied personalities and attitudes towards humans; they require alot of time and care and money. It's true, most wolves and wolfdogs end up in santuraries or end up being euthanized; their owners simply weren't ready or able or willing to put in that kind of commitment. Take it from me, I volunteer for the SPCA in a rural area, and we get tons of wolves and wolfdog every year. Their owners got them because they think wolves are cool, but again they weren't prepared. In any case, most advertised wolfdogs are really just dogs with a wolf like appearance. Its hard to tell unless you familiarize yourself with wolf and dog physical characteristics. And also, make sure it's legal to own a wolf/wolfdog/exotic animal in your area, or they will get confiscated and most likey put down. We have to put down alot of the animals we receive in my SPCA by court order. If you truly cared about the lives of these animals, then you'd listen. If you would really like to get to know a wolf or wolfdog, perhaps you can consider joining your local wolf/wolfdog/exotic animal rescue organization.
I was able to pet a Timber wolf that was raised by this pet owner and I asked him if he was a hybrid or a real Timber wolf and he told be he raised him up from a puppy, the wolf was gentle and was the most beautiful creature I ever encountered,I know they have there wild side but I till respect that they have the right to live also,I love all animal,I hate hunters that kill them for sport.
Have quite big wolves here, I dont see them often but sometimes when on my travels during work I see them crossing the road or following behind deer, they are not this big in Germany though, but still quite scary at 3am when you see one walking a short road away from you and looking your way as im walking and doing my paper jobs This ones big!
That is not a Timber Wolf folks..... I have only seen one Timber on trans-Canada hwy in February at night. It stood TALL, where it's head was high as the top of the roof of my brothers Honda Civic! Timber wolves at 220 -285 pounds. That said, I am positive there are HUGE wolves in the wild. Victoria Vancouver Island, a mountain lion was killed in a hotel parking lot which weighed over 300 lbs! The average cougar is reported at 120 -150 2005 lbs. In PineFalls Manitoba, a BLACK bear was killed in 2008 by a ranger or hunter, and weighed 900 !!! The male black bear average weigh is reported at 350-500 lbs.
That's my friend; he said, " They like killing us off". I said, "Unfortunately that happens all the time". " I believe that there will come a time when the tables will be turned..." Growl
A wolf actually has a bite pressure around 1400lbs per square inch. Double that of a normal domesticated dog. The biggest misnomer about wolves though is that they are far more aggressive. Which is not true! I live with one and my roommates cat has never been in danger.
so weird that i didn't even know my dog was a timber wolf. looks like the one in the video. sadly he died two years ago. damn i wanted him to run around in my new house were we had alot land but he didn't make in time.
Lol I have one of those, in that color too. He is sleeping next to me right now, and he is a pain in the ass. Those of you looking for a timber wolf for a pet, don't do it. I have spent so much money on this dog, and he has the strongest will to do things his way. Constantly needs attention. To smart for his own good. I'll never try to make a pet out a wild animal again. I have actually lost jobs because I needed to watch him or he would get in trouble. But he is my best friend.
Did anyone stop to consider that this wolf was a rescue? And that it could not be returned to the wild?
Nope
that wolf is super good looking
The canine race is sooooo amazing. and the wolf is the most beautiful of all of them.
what a wonderful job! i'm envious that she gets to work with such fascinating creatures!
Such beautiful animals. I would love to live in a place where I could be near them. :)

Big wolf. That wolf is about the size of a leopard.
Insaint Bear, taller probably. But she said he weighs 112 pounds. Leopards get up to 200 pounds.
I LOVE WOLVES!!!!!!
OR-7 IN NOR CAL AND WE ARE WATCHING IT CAREFULY HEAR.
Handsome beast
And ppl really think a hyena stands a chance against a wolf. A full sized, male timberwolf is wayyy bigger than a hyena.
Just My Opinion but bite force is also a factor all it takes on the hyenas side is a lucky grip around the neck
But I agree, if the hyena doesn’t get lucky wolf every time
No, hyenas are bigger than wolves.
oh wow he is a beauty and such a thick fluffy coat bet its so soft
Majestic 🙋
that is a pretty wolf
his predator soul is gone..... is so sad
Helber Mosquera you can never take that from a wolf
fuck off
True you cannot take that from a wolf
Throw him in the woods and let him get hungry. I suspect instinct will kick in.
Thats a half wolf half polar bear
00:39..... "What's up?"
She's huge!
Thats some pretty big dog. Thats what I want as a partner ,and nothing else.
Look white german shepherd

2:17 How much does "it" weigh? That's not an "it."
Then what is "it"?
