Children Meeting Their Grandma For The First Time After Moving To Ghana From The UK.

  • This is the day I had been waiting for and one of the main reasons I moved to Ghana with my family!
    We have seven children and the first two children have spent time with their Grandma in Ghana when they were young. For the remaining five it was their first time in Ghana and first time seeing their Grandma. My Dad passed 19 years ago, a day before our fourth born, Kofi, was born. It was my dream of bringing these children to Ghana to meet my mum and the extended family. We always wanted to come as a family and not bringing them to Ghana individually. Glad the dream has become a reality.
    Getting the children to know my mum, their grandma, was a priceless moment! To God be the glory for making this dream a reality. Please like, comment and share.

    I left Ghana when I was 5 (1996) telling my grandma that I would come back for her. I returned in 2004 for her funeral, I am so happy your children are able to see their grandma. I wish her a healthy life. Blessings y’all🙏🏾🤞🏾

      Thanks so much and sorry to hear that. I lost my dad when I was 19 years ago. Only the first two children met him. My mum knew only the first two children so one of the main reasons moving to Ghana was for the other five children to meet their grandma. I’m so grateful to God for making this dream a reality. This video is deep.

    My mom is a Ghanain, dad from Jamaica and I was born in Cathedral Avenue, Washington DC. Mom brought me to Ghana to stay with my grandma in 1995 at 5 years of age, went back to the state, 2012, at 22 years of age, 4 months later, I sent her 2,000 cedis, always make sure that I send her 700, 800, to 100 cedis every month because I really love here, after 2 and half years later, she admitted at ODA government hospital, 3 day later she passed away. I went back to Ghana for her funeral. I remember I cried like a baby😥😢 This video brought me into tears again because always thinking about my grandma who raised me. Bro. You are blessed to have your mom to see her grandchildren. This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing

      Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful relationship you had with your grandma. Sad to hear her passing. May her soul rest in peace. Glad you took care of her. I always say that we are not here forever so we should focus on relationships that matter. I’m so grateful to God for preserving my mum for this day to happen. Thank you for your encouraging words. BTW we have a Jamaican connection:) My son-in-law’s mum is from Jamaica and his dad is from Ghana. Stay blessed!

    Lol my grandma doesn't even speak English but I'm glad I'm able to communicate with her in twi. It's a whole different experience when we are able to communicate with family in our mother tonged. I remember when I was 13 and went back home for holidays I was constantly bullied because I couldn't speak it then. I don't think I would be able to live in Ghana without being fluent in 1 local language. The way I got bullied by other kids only God knows. I therefore made super duper effort to make sure all my kids speak fluent twi even if born abroad. People don't even believe they were not born in Ghana. If one of the parents is not Ghanaian it's not common to see the other person following you to Africa especially if they are not black so I commend you guys.

      @FamilyByNature  Před 2 lety +3

      Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. You’ve done amazingly well for speaking Twi with your children early on. Although effort was made to teach them I wasn’t consistent and disciplined enough to pull it through. Glad we are here in Ghana where they are learning vey fast. I’m investing time and resources to help them speak Twi fluently. I can imagine your experience back then in school without speaking Twi. Glad you turned that negative experience into something positive. Wishing you all the best!

      Henry thanks a lot! Yes it’s not an easy task and it takes courage and determination plus God’s favour. The most important thing is the decision. Once you decide and work together on it as a team it makes things easier. Since we work online it solved the income side for us:) It takes patience when you move. The first 3 months we were at my mum’s place whilst working on completing the inside of our house. 3 months later we moved and continue to work on the house. Gradually we’ve been able to finish almost everything. Looking back I can confidently say it was the best decision we took as a family. Wife is happy. Children are happy. I am happy:)

She’s speaking fluent Ga so I was wondering because her Twi is perfect as well. Pls can you drop your number to talk with you? Thanks

      Thanks a lot, Richard! My mum is from Kumasi, but was born and raised in Accra with her six siblings so they only speak Ga among themselves and at home. That’s how the children picked Ga too:)

      @@FamilyByNature Aooo bro, u have tried paaaa! With all these kids, I wonder how u were able to persuade them to make this big move! What a wonderful and understanding wife u have too. God richly bless everything u do in Ghana. I hope and pray thesexjids enjoy and appreciate what u also appreciated in Ghana growing up! No place like home, no matter what. I just lost my mum a few years ago, unfortunately, she didnt get the opportunity to know and enjoy her 14 grandkids that were born to all my siblings living in the States, becos they didnt bring them home much, so watching Oma(Nana) and her beautiful grandkids, the joy in her, as they lined up hugging her one by one, I just lost it! Reminds me of my mum, and her sadness she expressed for missing out on her grandkids upbringing, and having a bonding relationship with them. It always saddened me for her! She didnt have any siblings too..she was an only child, so her children were here family and her friends, so when they all left for states as teenagers to go to college, one by one, it was so lonely for her. Luckily she had me and my one other sister, and it was only becos we were both toddlers at the time, so, that's what saved her...with that too, the two of us never really got to grow up and know our older siblings either, so essentially, we and mama all lost, all around..then mana lost the chance to build relationship and bond with her grand children, which is the essential part of being a grandparent, and also extremely essential for grandchildren, for love, family history and stories, etc. So, bro, I'm so proud of u, for making this decision, which will completely transform your family's life exponentially, including grandma! I believe that, the love of their grandchildren, helps them live longer! Welcome home bro! Please update us! Welcome home! Akwaaba! Nyame Nhyira wo paa!

      @@rainbow3649 bro your message really touched me! So sorry for mum’s loss! I lost my dad when we were in Germany. Only the first 2 children got the opportunity to meet him. I made a decision to move home so that the children could spend time with their grandma. Bro I’m so grateful to God for keeping her strong for this moment. This moment is something I had always imagined! Personally this video is beyond words. It’s a reminder for us abroad to help our kids spend quality time with their grandparents whilst they are around. I wish my dad were to be around, but thank God my mum has lived to see all her grandchildren. I will do a video soon and answer some of your questions regarding getting them to join me:)
      Would love to connect with you. Here’s my email: email@douglasnimoh.com. Thanks so much for taking the time to share with us. May the almighty God bless and guide you!

      Congrats n God continually give u the strength to support the family . Long life n good health. So after 1yr in the government school, I suggest u take the kids to the international standard one. They would have gotten the basis of Ghanaian life by that time

      Yes I get your point. Our first two children actually lived with my mum in Ghana when they were young as we tried to move to Ghana in 1996 and it didn’t work out as planned. They even spoke frequently. We had only two kids at the time and we would come to Ghana every year. As the family grew and jobs and business changed it was difficult financially to take all on holidays to Ghana. We wanted to go as a family and not taking each kid separately. We tried to invite my mum on several occasions to visit us, but she hates to fly. That was the reason. We tried to convince her to stay with us, but like I said she’s afraid of flying. THIS is the main reason I moved to Ghana with my family and part of our transition plans was to live with my mum before moving to our house. This is why we moved to Kumasi and not in Accra. It’s about family, not only my mum, but the children having the opportunity to bond with the extended family as well. We have been living 2 months with my mum and we are moving to our house tomorrow God’s willing. The best thing is our house is just 10 minutes away from my mum:) Thanks for your comment. Hope this helps to understand. Will explain more in an upcoming video. Stay blessed!
