My thoughts on using a shotgun for home defense when compared to other types of available firearms.
If someone grabs the muzzle pull the trigger I promise he will let go.
I hear some say that when the intruder in your home hears the rack slide sound he will leave. However, today's criminal would probably have a gun in his handand not leave.

A shotgun is more ideal for home defense outside the home than inside. Also ideal for critter control if you live in the sticks.

Shooting that inside your home will blow your ears out and go through rooms. It is over kill. Even a 357 mag round will chirp your ears for 3 days if you shoot in a room. How will you open a door when you need both hands on the shotgun? A beretta pm12 with HP rounds will be more suitable.
Most intruders are scary if u pump that shotgun there gonna run

W a shotgun you have a little time to make certain you actually see a prowler, not a mouse. Lol
I wouldnt use a shotgun for HD in an urban environment, an AR in 22lr with a hi cap mag and one in my back pocket for malfunctions. 10rds of 22lr to the upper chest and clavicle youre done.
If there is a large, violent mob coming down the street, retreat is the best choice, unless some of your neighbors are already shooting at them. One man alone can't stop a mob, unless he has a machine gun with several hundred rounds. If there are cops out fighting the mob, then you should either stay inside, get out of the area if you can, or join them and tell them you are there to help them (this third choice is only if the other two options are not possible). If you stand alone and start shooting the cops may mistake you for one of the mob and shoot you.
You're right. Plenty of stories of good guys with guns being mistaken for bad guys with guns. The data agrees with you. Stay out of it. Most folks do.
