    ***ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
    If you were having the same issue as I was and you were wondering why does ATV click when try to start it then I likely have the fix for you!
    When I tried to start my ATV, nothing would happen and I would only hear a clicking sound. So I went through a few diagnostic checks before coming to the conclusion that I had a starter problem.
    After removing the starter from the my Suzuki Eiger I disassembled the starter. Inside was a lot of dust like material which came from the starter brushes. The brushes were wore out, especially one of them. I cleaned the inside of the starter of the dust and ordered new brushes.
    When the starter brushes arrived I then installed them in the starter and assembled the starter back together. I then installed the starter back on the Suzuki Eiger and it started immediately.
    You can buy these starter brushes for a Suzuki Eiger 400 here on Amazon:
    *Amazon Canada: amzn.to/3iI8ecT
    *Amazon US: amzn.to/3sqFgUg
    If you have a different make and model of ATV, be sure to see if you can find the part on Amazon! Lots of times I can get parts cheaper on Amazon or Ebay, even with the shipping cost.

      drop your petcock $100 + part, swap with a raptor 660 model on/off/reserve old school gas valve for $10 (other models have the same fit as well), just plug your vacuum line with an electrical wire nut. working now no problems for last 6 years

    Thanks for the great video and advice. I too had an issue with a single "click", coming from the starter solenoid (on my 2003 Bayou 250). I watched your video and all the other starter/starter solenoid related CZcams videos available and was convinced that I had a bad started solenoid based on the videos and the fact that the single "click" sound came from the solenoid, not the starter. There were numerous aftermarket starter solenoids available on Amazon for around $10 xo I figured I would try the least expensive and easiest repair (compared to replacing the starter itself) first...what a hassle! I bought and returned starter solenoids from 4 different sellers due to the "B" (for battery) and "M" (for motor) being on opposite sides from what the description pictures showed and that the description clearly stated the solenoid was compatible with my specific ATV...maybe it doesn't matter? I don't know though because it turned out that the single "click" coming from the starter solenoid was actually caused by a bad starter. I replaced the starter and everything worked fine, even the original starter solenoid.

    I have a 2015 Suzuki 400 Quad Runner with the same symptom, clicking at the solenoid. I was looking to buy a new starting motor, however my year/model Quad Runner requires a much more expensive starter than pre-2011's models; $360 ouch. After viewing your video, I ordered a new brush kit for a fraction of the starter cost. I just finished the starter re-build. When I opened it up it was loaded with fine black powder. After cleaning as you described and re-installing, she starts right up. The hardest part of the job was trying to figure out how to twist and rotate the starter to clear the tailpipe. Thanks again for the great video.

    Thanks, we have two ATV's (a 94' polaris 400 2x4 and a 05' Eiger 4x4 and both starters went out. The brushes are a lot cheaper than two whole starters. It's seams like they always break at the most opportune times to.😄 Thanks a lot, saved us a lot of money.

I don't know though because it turned out that the single "click" coming from the starter solenoid was actually caused by a bad starter. For me, the final clue was that I couldn't "jump" the starter by connecting the solenoid terminals with a screwdriver. I am sure that there are other more exact diagnostics I could have done with a meter but I replaced the starter and everything worked fine, even the original starter solenoid.

    • @garydillon7765
      @garydillon7765 Před 2 lety

      @CountryStranger There is some conflicting opinions on the different forums on what it means if "jumping" the solenoid doesn't work but I think it makes sense to try the solenoid first as that is the less expensive way to go...good luck with that though as I had a hard time getting the right part on Amazon, even when the pictures were identical to OEM they came in with the "B" and "M" terminals on opposite sides from what the pictures showed (like I said previously, "Maybe it doesn't matter?"). Even after finally getting the right solenoid, it still wouldn't jump so I changed the starter and that fixed my problem and my Bayou is still starting strong since then.. I hope that it does turn out to be the solenoid in your case. Let me know how you make out. Good luck!

    Thank you for sharing your videos. They are very informative and detailed well. I have a clicking won't start issue going on at present. If the starter brushes are bad would it make the relay under the seat click when you try to start it.? It has never done this before, I just replaced the carburetor on it and have never had trouble starting it before. I went to start it with a full battery and all I got was the clicking from the relay under the seat.

    • @FixingStuff101
      @FixingStuff101 Před 3 lety

      Yes, if the starter brushes are bad that would cause the relay to click but nothing happening at the starter. Try tapping the starter with hammer.

  • @njd2342
    @njd2342 Před 2 lety

    My 400 Eiger would/will not start but clicked. It would start with the manual pull so I guess its the starter brushes getting worn is the cause. Thanks for reminding me as I did the job a few years ago.

    • @GettingItDoneNorthOf7
      @GettingItDoneNorthOf7  Před 2 lety

      Sounds like your starter. Get a piece of wood and hammer. Tap the starter while someone hits the start button. It might start. But you will still need starter maintenance

    had this problem, i though it was moisture from rain. I took my seat off and after 10 mins it started. i cut it off about 10 time the last few days...now its doing it again.
    I had a question, I'll probably just try it...I can jump the starter with a screw driver and that will let me know if its the brushes or starter right?

    I know this video is 4 years old but do you happen to know the part number for the brushes for the Suzuki Eiger quadrunner. I have rebuilt mine from the ground up it is the best toughest machine ever. I've had this problem for a year or so and just never got around to it because it's so hard to find the right stuff for the model and Suzuki is quite expensive. And with a pull string that starts very easily it was never really an issue but now that I got everything up and brand new I'd like to get that if you had the part number or the link to Amazon or wherever you get it I get my parts through Suzuki.
