The program was arranged by one of my friends in the basement of his house in 1980's when Khan Sahib was visiting USA.There is nothing like being in a private mehfil with small group of Ghazal loving people.It will remain one of the best experience of my life . I always think that there is so much weightage in the lyrics of the Ghazal . It's probably the highest grade of Urdu language. Even people who know Urdu, can get confused. Such terrific singing. This Ghazal is actually a bit simple without the improvisations . But from a literal meaning it's not simple .

Quadar bhai, This has been my very favourite Ghazal of khan saheb. Have been listening to this since 1990s. This perhaps is the best version. Great. No words for him. His music is divine and you can say that the renditions come straight from almighty, Ishwar allah.
I had the good fortune to listen to the Maestro in the UK in the 80s, and have been totally inspired by his singing. I also sing a little, and love singing Khan sbs ghazals. The other maestro I adore is Ustad Ghulam Ali. These two legends are my favourite all time singers. They are just phenomenal. No one comes close. ❤❤❤
I am very thankful to my father who introduced Mehdi Hassan sb when i was only six year old. After listening him i learned how to behave with loved ones.
Hi iam from Chennai, India a urdu speaking muslim name is afsar shareef, i am really fortunate i think that i had a chance to be part of the live concert of khan saheb about 18 yrs b ack. i was a kid, after that khan sahab never came to chennai. MY only regret is and will be that after he fell sick the Pakistani govertnment or any well wishers in the world never bothered to give him the best treatment. What is the use of we talking about him so much now. even for that matter
i got a private mehfil recording of khan sahib mehdi hassan which was held in st louis in 1984.i will post couple of ghazals from that mehfil so that you can figure it out that its the same mehfil you attended or a different one. i had been to st louis only once in 1994 during summer time and still remember how hot and humid it was.

A true music mastrio... I had the prestige of listening to him in live show twice in my life. I was a student and poor at that time, but I knew I had to do it ... I charged it on my American Express card..😅 And of course I snuck in back stage too and got his autograph which I treasure to this day... and will pass it on to my children as my legacy.. I don't have anything else as valuable to pass on to them.

His style of gayiki was pretty simple, soft, effortless, soothing, and soulful but overbearing and very difficult to emulate ! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had given ghazal gayiki a pedestal, which will be very difficult to surpass ! Even jagjeet singh started his career singing Mehdi hassan's ghazals (you can watch them on CZcams), Mehdi had beautiful voice and he was master of Hindustani classical music, He belongs to 600 hundred years old singing gharana! He was marwari muslim from jodhpur, After partition he came to Pakistan!

Hard working classical singer of southeast Asia region, this type of ghazals singer are not available nowadays,really legaandary and versatile ..

His style of gayiki was pretty simple, soft, effortless, soothing, and soulful but overbearing and very difficult to emulate ! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had given ghazal gayiki a pedestal, which will be very difficult to surpass ! Personally speaking, I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have born during the lifetime of this legendary singer !

جانے کب دل میں کوئی جھانکنے والا آ جائے
اس لیے میں نے گریبان کُھلا رکھا ہے
امتحان اور مرے ضبط کا تم کیا لو گے ؟
میں نے دھڑکن کو بھی سینے میں چھپا رکھا ہے
دل تھا اِک شعلہ مگر بیت گئے دن وہ قتیل
اب کریدو نہ اسےراکھ میں کیا رکھا ہے

Dear brother thanks for this rare version. This is one of my most favorite masterpieces of khan sahib. thanks. I also regret extremely that I could not attend the concert of khan sahib in my life. Mehdi hassan was only and one jagjit, ghulam Ali ,hussain bux guloo are also best but ....
No comparison man! Even jagjeet singh started his career singing Mehdi hassan's ghazals (you can watch them on CZcams), Mehdi had beautiful voice and he was master of Hindustani classical music, He belongs to 600 hundred years old singing gharana! He was marwari muslim from jodhpur, After partition he came to Pakistan!
