    As a general rule, my understanding is that if two helmets meet the same safety standard the price difference will be fit and finish, weight and appearance. Paying more doesn't necessarily mean a safer helmet, but it'll mean one which is nicer to wear and holds up better over time. That said, as a motorcycle rider I'm not inclined to cheap out on the only thing keeping my face separated from the tarmac.

      i don't think so. If im not mistaken, most motorcycle helmets (snell, DOT approved) are designed more or less in accordance to car helmet testing (impacts). That is, both helmets use the same testing procedure. Only new helmets designed to ECE 22.05 uses tests which simulate more of a motorcycle crash impacts on the head, rather then standard car impacts. So, imho, the salesman is selling a 1000$ helmet when you can buy half that price.

    • @wowdogeful
      @wowdogeful Před rokem +3

      It's also intended to block the sun, but the main purpose is that it's polarized to prevent glare from reflections. Have you ever seen how bright reflections from the sun on a body of water can be? A polarized visor almost completely eliminates that, but if you were to buy a helmet with tinted and polarized visor, make sure to also buy a clear visor to swap it if needed. Most tracks will ban you from driving at dawn or night time with a tinted visor, and if you want to also use the helmet for street use (on a motorcycle for example), too dark of a tint might actually be illegal to run since it's the same effect as tinting the windshield of your car.

      @@JLneonhug Technically they're both designed to meet their relevant standards, usually ECE for motorbike and FIA for car.
      Both those standards specify different criteria, such as lateral G forces sustained, top down impact etc. and hence the helmets are designed different, and motorbike helmets standards don't include skid oriented protection, only impact tests (at least for ECE22-06)
