Lyrics:
Crying
Crying never did nobody no good, no how
That's why I don't cry
That's why I don't cry
Laughing
Laughing sometimes does somebody some good somehow
That's why I'm laughing now
That's why I'm laughing now
Loving
Loving never did me no good, no how, no how
That's why I can't love you now
That's why I can't love you now
Lying
Lying never did nobody no good, no how, no how
So why am I lying now?
So why am I lying now?
So why am I lying now?

It seems we're all here from The Holdovers, it touched me as well.😊
I remember it from the first time round but am watching The Holdovers and had to pause it to come here and listen. Such a beautiful song.
Just finished The Holdovers! Now I’m here.
Perfect song for a perfect movie
Can't stop watching and showing people "The Holdovers".
First heard this on The Holdovers and can’t stop listening
Payne is brilliant with the use of music -- not as good as Mann, but awesome for its genre.
Love his voice. Thanks to The Holdovers for this gem
Found this song because of the holdovers, it's great to be introduced to gems like this
I too just finished watching The Holdovers. I was born in the 50's but the 60's and 70's was my era for great music. Funny though, I don't remember ever hearing this song until now. Such a good movie. At the end of the movie when he was driving away and this song started to play...boy it really moved me! :(
god, where has this song been all my life? wonderful
So I'm 63 years old and never have heard this until last night when I saw The Holdovers. I have lived all this time without this song...
Yo! I'm 59 and I'm here because of the movie as well. I was trying to remember if I ever heard this on the radio....nothing comes to mind. What the hell? It would have fit right in with all the music going on back in 1972...
Howdy, I'd never heard this song before ... yep, just watched The Holdovers - had me crying like a baby ... when Mary opened that box it was all over. Very touching movie though I didn't expect it to go where it did. Loved it. This song struck me had to find it and read the lyrics - lovely song.
HOLDOVERS RULES!!!
The Holdovers movie brought me here. What a song!
This song made me cry in The Holdovers. Was such a beautiful little piece to put for Angus exploring the school at night and the end credits
Where can you watch this movie? 🍿
@@eyelavadershineDon’t watch it, it’s terrible
brilliant film, brilliant song , both would bring a tear to a glass eye🥲
Here because of The Holdovers.
Watching this wonderful movie the Holdovers-You are mesmerized by not only the acting but the simple melody and song playing in the background, now I'm here!
Beautiful movie
HOLDOVERS ❤❤
The holdovers is the best "not current year" movie to come out this year.
"It's this one. This is the one you should be looking at"
Long time Labi Siffri fan so was delighted when I heard this whilst watching The Holdovers. Also The Wind by Cat Stevens. Woman sat next to me at the cinema asked me if I knew who sang the songs so I took great pleasure in enlightening her. Absolutely adored the film. Very moving but also caused me to laugh out loud on numerous occasions too.
Loved the infusion of Labi too. Did you hear the Khruangbin?
Must confess I've not heard of them before. Just wikipedia'd them and they look interesting. What song of their's was featured so I can check it out. I liked all the music in the film so no doubt I'll enjoy it. Did you enjoy the film too?
Just finished watching The Holdovers. Agreed, it was the movie that brought me here. Beautiful standout song and lyrics fit perfectly with the film. After watching it, I just had to find the song and artist. Bravo Labi!
Heard this tune watching the Holdovers not realizing it was a tune 50 yrs old.....love it!
Same here; The Holdovers. Sing during the closing credits. Took me a while to find the song. Thanks to the music director for using period correct songs
Greatest Song And Saddest Song From Labi Siffre Great Composer Lyricist The Best Theme For The Ending Scene From The Holdovers
How this song failed to chart in the U.S. blows my mind. Thank you Alexander Payne, for re-introducing this song to the masses.
The Holdovers 1 of the best Christmas movie in the last decades with some solid soundtracks for sure
Holdovers!!!!! Nice film. I really enjoyed it!
Yes Holdovers piqued my curiousity - lovely song. Me too - tearful!
Hard to believe this song was released in 1972! Like others, I had never heard it before until I watched the Holdovers. Good movie and beautiful song. For someone that graduated from high school in 1971 and watching this video, well it feels like a walk back into time. A better and simpler time in many ways.
should check out his whole first 2 albums !
The holdover brought me here to remind us always that beautifull art is symbiotic
The Holdovers brought me here , but this composer will have me listening forever
There was a lot of good music in the Holdovers (just saw it - great film!) but this song stuck with me. Never heard of Labi Siffle before - seems like I was not alone.
Here because of The Holdovers as well.
me too
great flik
I remembered it was Labre Ciffre. Not heard this in 50 years
Here because of The Holdovers
What a great movie with great soundtrack....who on earth thought of all these great songs?
Same! Holdovers - great movie - and this song is powerful! Never heard it but I’m obsessed! ❤ thank you for bringing this song to the masses! ❤ decades later but better later than never! ❤
Holdovers for me too! Had to find this song, which is so true. Excellent movie!
Shame it takes a movie to find a song this good, here because of the Holdovers movie was amazing if you have not checked it out
I’m here from The Holdovers too! Gem of a movie, and gem of a song! Perfect paired with the film
Perfect soundtrack to a good movie.
to an ok movie. this song was better than the whole movie.
Soothing and beautiful. A perfect balance of joy and sorrow.
The Holdovers
Great movie the ending son was perfect
Holdover bring me here! Lovely song
thank you The Holdovers
Beautiful!! Congrats! I am watching the Holdover and had to stop go to my laptop to seach and find you. Soul hitting. Thank you!
😅...me too... ✌️ ❤ 🙏 🌎
Great film.
Me too! Wonderful film & soundtrack - never heard of Siffre before, but now a fan!
I guess we're all here for the same reason
so glad I saw the Holdovers....brought me here!
I've been going through Labi's discography recently. He is an amazing artist
I just saw this song on Heldover . It is a beautiful song that makes perfect sense ❤😢
Just seen The Holdovers and discovered this song, it's beautiful, entre nous ...
He wrote the Madness song “It Must Be Love”. Ive loved it since the 80’s and had no idea it was a cover of a folk song from 10 years prior. Then I land here. What a great rabbit hole.
Just tore my heart while watching The Holdovers 🙃❤️
From India🇮🇳
beautiful beautiful song and film
Had never heard this song before! The Holdovers movie is great and so is this song❤
There is talent and then this. Labi is without doubt the most underated song writer of all time. Genius for me.
Ben Harper 😍 Bill Withers 😘
This song is like having a good cry
Saw him about 1975 when he supported Frank Sinatra at the royal Albert hall, a night I’ll never forget ❤
wow. and he said how much he loves Sinatra. Sinatra's song, One For My Baby, really inspired him
That must have been special!
Can honestly imagine Labbi opening for Frank...the soft melody's trumped by Sinatra and in part because of the highs and lows they both create in unison.
This made me cry so appropriate for this splendid movie
A fantastic film and a brilliant song, what a gift ❤
This guy is timeless!
Not only was I fortunate enough to hear him sing..and to hear him play.
So we're Jay-z..Eminem and Kany west plus probably many any more...and they passed it on to me and you alike.
This song is beautiful in its simplicity of a story and its melody and singing is hauntingly beautiful.
Crying
Crying never did nobody no good, no how
That's why I don't cry
That's why I don't cry
Laughing
Laughing sometimes does somebody some good somehow
That's why I'm laughing now
That's why I'm laughing now
Loving
Loving never did me no good, no how, no how
That's why I can't love you now
That's why I can't love you now
Lying
Lying never did nobody no good, no how, no how
So why am I lying now?
So why am I lying now?
So why am I lying now?
Thank you.
Crying actually dies do good even if it doesn't resolve a matter but it helps wash out the pain..the angst or whatever.. bit by bit.
And loving may not always be perfect but it's worth the effort if we take our time at the BEGINNING.
Most important is to know the love of the Father through knowing Jesus as Saviour.🙏
This song has twisty-turny hints of nostalgic country weaved in with 70’s folk sounds and it’s exquisite. I can’t stop listening to this song. Why?
Immediately recognized this on The Holdovers. It'll be a very sad day when this beautiful soul transitions to the afterlife.
How did this tune fly under the radar of '70's FM radio?
Think the 70s were hitting the rock stages heavy.
Stations were taken over by companies paying higher prices to get their promotion hits played first.
Had a friend worked at a big city station, had to play what was listed etc. but Labi songs were available...& great.
What a good choice they picked for this movie!
A brilliant artist and songwriter -- for those unfamiliar with his work . . . check out "Watch Me," possibly one of the greatest songs written in the 70s.
Great movie, great soundtrack, great song. ❤🎶🤗
If I ever visit Boston...💚💚💚💚
Timeless song. So glad it's been brought back to us!
Great movie and great song!
Peace love and understanding brought me here
Holdovers
How good is this,50 years on and its lime less god bless you Labi.
Crying never did nobody no good no how. That why I dont cry..
Loving never did me no good no how. Thats why I cant love me now.
..So why why am I lying now?..
Love this song
Just saw the movie, nice song
just discovered him through spotify last week, i am a big fan of his lovely music, poetic lyrics and clear voice, very calming and inspiring! Greets from Germany!
Holdover❤
I know this song by Olivia Newton-John from the mid 1970s. I didn't realize it was Labi Siffre's song until I saw "The Holdovers" movie. WOW!!
Just watched this. Absolutely love his voice.
Entre Nous
He has a beautiful voice. Just ordered his cd❤❤
Just wow , this song touches something deep in my heart
He seems so sweet and kind
So beautiful and the arrangement makes me tear up.
Conocía esta canción pero a escucharla en The Holdovers la aprecio mucho más. Excelente película y mejor canción.
Yo también, es fantastico!!
Great singer 👏
What a great talent, with a beautiful voice and amazing guitar strumming, and a true gentleman thrown in for good measure.
👌👌 fits the movie perfectly A+
Just a beautiful frikin song
Tully from the holdovers im in love with you & this song lol
OMG.....when a song just takes you to a different place. I thought I'd never get to hear anyone like John Martyn or especially Nick Drake....and then This comes along. And his story is even more magical.... Pure Bliss
Very Paul Simon. That's a good thing. If you like this, listen to the Only Living Boy in New York. Cheers.
Thank you for this.
I first heard it 9 years ago on the movie/soundtrack Diary of a Teenage Girl. Lovely song. ❤
At the end of the song he asks himself why he is lying now. If you pertain these last lines to the whole of the song, he DOES cry, he DOES'NT laugh, and he DOES love.
Ah...very good! I didn't even think about that!
