  • A Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo film
    Directed by Arthur Touchot
    Co-produced by WatchesTV
Watchmaking has a long and rich history, which we at Phillips often get the opportunity to dive into during auction season thanks to the historically important, vintage pieces that fill our catalogues. Occasionally, we even get to contribute new discoveries to the field when one of our specialists finds a fresh-to-market piece that redefines current literature.
But, truth be told, the advances that watchmaking has made during the past 20 years have been just as, if not more, drastic than in the 100 years that precede it. Therefore, on the occasion of RETROSPECTIVE : 2000 - 2020, our upcoming thematic sale dedicated to contemporary watches, we are proud to present A Moment in Time: Watchmaking at the Start of the 21st Century.
Our first short documentary film focuses on our industry's entrance into the cultural mainsteam, and features some of the principal actors of our industry, including watchmakers, brand historians, chief executives, retailers, members of the press, who all lend their voice to tell the story of the past 20 years.

Good to hear from a member of the Holy Trinity on this.. much thanks needs to be given to you for the timing of the Royal Oak and later to Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe for holding on thru those hard years!

there are so many fine examples of 21st century watch making.. many brands from the 18th century still around, like Vacheron Constantin (1755)... Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet from alter in the 19th century... and now with brands like Philippe Dufour and FP Journe carrying on this tradition.

Well done ... what a great film ... watches are hand made art and we often forget how difficult it is to develop and produce these little high tech machines. Simply said a watch only shows the time but for the real watch lover it is more than that. It is a piece of art for the wrist. Unfortunately during these times many buyers uses watches as an investment and the real watch lovers do not have a chance to get the piece of their desire.👍🙂🇨🇭

Brands are afraid to admit the design crisis in the 21st century. Only by releasing "brand new" models with Genta's design AP can make money to survive. Just making "facelift" of their 40 years old designs Hublot can ask from $ 5,000 per watch.
Which models you'll re-releasing in 20 years as historical? You can't rely only on rich people with bad taste.
