To do as many songs that are in a musical in a 22 minute TV context and each song is pretty exceptional. It’s a masterpiece.

My 14yr daughter has epilepsy, she stops breathing and turns blue when she does them and i just panic histerically, even though i try really hard not too. She never remembers a thing but i feel traumatised and on edge all the time. Fingers crossed theres a medication out there that will work for her! But never knew these things could happen with seizures.

Growing old is one of those things you just take for granted and it's like jumping into a cold pool to confront the fact that it sometimes isn't the path we're on. My son passed away recently at the age of 32. I always imagined a life growing old along with him and coming to terms with actuality is hard.

Thank you so much for your videos!! I’m currently recovering from a personal low point that made me realize how precious life really is. Thank you so much for all that you and everyone in your profession does for the rest of us. I recently had 3 different visits to the ER until we found out what was going on.. and I cannot express how much it helped to just know that people cared for me and that they were going to do their best to help me, even though we had never met. You have made it literally your life’s work to fix people and get us back on our feet.
Thank you so much for your positive attitude and sharing the joy (and struggles) with us. Thank you for helping in my healing process.

Bless you Doc, it's genuinely nice to see you still take so much of this to heart I can only imagine as a Doctor everyone's got their own means for making it through each day and this show always did that for me. I'd legitimately love to see how you'd react those episodes that can really hit home. If I were to recommend any among any they would be...

Most of the cast and crew had some musical theatre experience at one point or another in their careers and so this was very much a "fun episode" that they wanted to do, and eventually the network agreed. You can tell they were really having a ton of fun making this.

It's very true that you grow more aware of the fragility of life as you grow older. I think that applies weather you're a medical professional or not, but some things can absolutely hurry up that process, like seeing young patients go through things they in all fairness shouldn't, going through a medical trauma yourself, watching somebody you know go though life with an incurable disease or loosing someone you love. Life is fragile, so try to savor every ounce of happiness it brings you.

i'm normally claustrophobic, but i find MRIs very soothing. even the noise is basically white noise. loud for sure. then you have PET scans where they tell you it will feel like you are peeing yourself and not to move, but then it really does and it is hilarious so they have to start over. this is one of those rare episodes where scrubs doesn't go lightly but really hits you at the end, even when singing.

When you mentioned how you give patients a Midazolam (a benzodiazepine I presume?) before an MRI I felt that because I've needed Ativan for a couple of MRIs. Not due to the claustrophobia, mind you, but due to the fact that I'm hypersensitive to the loud noises and squirmed like a creepy crawly the first time I had an MRI, I was so uncomfortable. The funny thing is benzos make you forget pretty much everything and turn you into a complete doped-out idiot for an hour or two. Plus if you take them for anxiety at night/insomnia (which I do), there's an almost guarantee you will feel tired and groggy in the morning.

Don't know if you see this, came to it a bit late. I think this is the first video of yours I've watched; I just re-watched this episode and was looking for a doctor reacts for it. I've had a really great psychiatrist for the last year or so that's really helped me get to a good place with my mental health, though the jury's still out whether the latest meds will continue working (one of those things where it seems to be one thing but when treatment isn't working right minor or more hidden symptoms that point to something else might be the key). Anyway, I've really come to appreciate how much difference a good mental health team can make after struggling for a long time for financial reasons, mediocre therapist reasons, that thing where bad mental health makes it harder to seek help, and, in the beginning, not knowing what was wrong just that something was.
My point is, from your demeanor here and the things you pick out to focus on and care about I think you would make a great psychiatrist. Or really a doctor in any specialty you end up in (? not sure if a junior Dr already has a specialty) or a GP if that's where you're going. I'll be subscribing and sticking around for a bit. Good luck with everything.

I got stuck in an mri once.
It was an mri of my upper arm and I was loaded in in a very uncomfortable position…head first, face down and with my arm outstretched above my head.
Needless to say, within a couple of minutes I was in a lot of pain and so I called out to the tech or doctor to get me out and no one responded. I don’t know how long I spent shouting at them and then trying to move about so much that it might set off an alarm or produce something notable at the other end - but it must’ve been at least 5 minutes. Eventually someone came in and got me out but I was so bloody angry. It actually felt like I was being tortured.

Roughly 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with left temporal lobe epilepsy. In fact, a few minutes before I watched this video, I had a focal seizure. Things get WEIRD. An overwhelming sense of deja vu, to the point of nearly panicking. Thoughts and other stimuli (such as the noises/voices around me) will loop in my mind like a skipping record. The right side of my body tingles like mad and, though I remain aware, I can hardly move or react without someone having to basically get right up in my face to get my attention. Its very strange, and it's something that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

how would a coil through the groin help an aneurism in the brain? They don't go all the way from down there to brain, do they? If I had something go all the way through me yeah, no wonder there's complications! Can't they just do blood thinners or something and I dono, drain out the area?

Curious to see if the poo song will get more relevant with time, the more we learn about how closely related our digestion system seems to be with a lot of neurological processes

So right when she had her surgery you talked about young folks not getting to be old. It rang a bit hard on me, i lost most cousin last year. Same age as ke she was 31 and your wording messed me up because its a horribly painful truth. But other than that. I love your reactions to scrubs, its my favorite tv show. So thanks for the fantastic content.

My dad had a stroke from a brain aneurysm and lost his speech and the use of his right side. He was a drummer. The only phase he was ever able to say was 'I use to' and finished with dadadada. He's been gone now for years now and not to long ago I realized dadadada is how drummers talk when describing what their playing. Which now I kick myself not knowing that as a drummer myself. Just curious if you think this is possibility or am I'm I just reaching??
Also just a funny for you... when I was 21 I was diagnosed with AML and luckily my little sister was a perfect match. I love saying I'm 21 years older and 1 year younger then my son. I just turn 25 (BMT years) a few months ago.

Im a training speech pathologist. From what you said it sounds like he had a global aphasia. His phrase was like a telegraphic/echolia (I can't remember the term) where someone repeats sounds words or phrases they have heard with no communicative intent. Unless he used AAC and was able to communicate through that. His speech was likely just a phrase he knew he could say but didn't know what it meant anymore.
My grandmother went through many strokes with dementia. She would forget and repeat phrases to a point you couldn't talk with her anymore because she wasn't coherent anymore.
I know this doesn't help but I hope it does take away the blame you may feel that you might have misunderstood him when he tried to speak.

I don't think you're right about 30 minutes for a brain MRI (at least for me). Mine is 45 minutes and I get them every year. I had to get them every 3 months at first at first. It's rough, but I focus on the sounds that the MRI is making. One sounds like a helicopter flying over your head, and another sounds like soldiers marching over a bridge.

I think you kinda missed a point, when they were telling the patient that she was going to be okay. Have you ever heard someone say “think happy thoughts before going to bed” I think that a person’s emotional state going into such a surgery can be the difference between life and death. The body wants to survive if the consciousness knows there is a good chance of survival
