He does many pages of preparation jokes for these appearances - the genius is how spontaneous he makes it appear and of course his amazing delivery. But yeh he does the work before hand like a pro

Martin Short is a total pro, coming with content to each job, each appearance on a talk show. He is always working, and his mind is both on the knife-sharp writing, but also on the timing, builds, connections to current events, roasting everyone but especially himself, and always including both the audience in that room, but also where the cameras are and which shot they’ll likely be using… etc. He is built for the mania and multitasking that goes into his chosen profession, and nobody does it better. Total pro.

This show is exactly what I needed! I know it won’t be popular but cheaper by the dozen was awesome when I was little and bringin down the house. I had been longing for something new from Steve now that I’m grown and we are losing people right and left and man this show has been a huge stress relief and insane! I love it

In college (1985) a group of us went to Chicago for Halloween and I went as Ed Grimley. Most people thought I was supposed to be Pee Wee Herman , but a waiter at the Hard Rock Cafe got it right and made the whole thing worth it with his own impression.
