What’s affecting the PGA players is the money they missed out on when they had a chance on LIV and now playing poorly wishing they signed on to LIV when the PGA and LIV are “merging” anyway. Basically they had an opportunity to eat the cake and Jay Monaghan convinced them not to.

This whole thing could have been avoided. Monahan and the PGA Tour were paying out 50% of what they should have been paying the players. That's Michelson's whole gripe. Doesn't anyone find it funny how all of the sudden the PGA can now pay $4 mil for 1st place when it use to be $2mil to the winner? Greed on the part of the PGA. Without the players, there is no tour. Frankly I don't blame those who went to LIV because of the lack of trust for one, and the size of the purses with an easy schedule. Duh, who wouldn't want the same or more money for less work?

They need to get the deal done ASAP. There’s gonna be more cannibalization of the PGA tour the longer this goes on. I think the way the thinking man‘s show came up with a solution is the best one so far. Both tours remain autonomous outside of the four majors and then they will have six mini majors where they all get together. That would be 10 in total. Then at the end of the year or every other year, they will have a Ryder Cup style competition between the two tours.

Or if they expand up from the 13 teams LIV currently has then you can make it more teams coming from the other leagues...but yeah, PGA Tour Signature events has LIV guys coming over, LIV should just do the same and have their own Signature events where PGA/DP Tour teams come and compete in.

Kind of an informal "union leader" so to speak regardless of his gambling issues. This is how he and Norman were able to start LIV in the first place since he was able to get so many to join. Much like in small REALTOR organizations as I'm in, most just want to do their job and if someone is willing to step up, volunteer and seems to have similar views most will support them in their organizations. Golf is no different I'm sure. Just like everyone got behind Rory for awhile on the PGA side even though now there are rumors of him leaving as well. They want to get behind Tiger but his "outside of golf" issues are even worse than Mickelson's so he is doing more to divide the sport than helping it right now with his rigid stance on everything. As far as compensating PGA players for 'loyalty' that's just stupid to pay for someone for staying in the PGA and then wanting to reap the benefits of LIV golf.
Also, the PGA has control of the voting board for world ranking points, the first thing they should do is approve LIV getting those and dont scream it's only 54 holes as Gira de Golf Professional de Mexicana is only 54 holes and was approved.

What they ought to do is have the PGA Tour be the individual avenue to the Signature Tour series, while LIV would be the team-based avenue. Top 3 LIV teams including ties should be awarded Signature exemptions. LIV events should also have special invitational teams so that you don't have Wildcard Anthony Kim situations. If the Korn Ferry event winners get Signature exemptions, put the next top 4 Korn Ferry players on a team and give them a chance to qualify for the Signature exemption as well. Senior tour players, Regional PGA amateurs, or Local club champions can also have teams for better grassroots engagement. There are a lot of things that could be done with a little creativity.

Couple of thoughts. 1. Wonder how everyone who Tiger convinced to pass is going to feel. 2. Surely a team is reserved for Scottie. 3. There has to be a buyout or relegation provision to get rid of some of the under-performing captains who joined early but don't add much to league today (e.g. Kaymer, the tri-captains on the Majesticks, Na, etc)

Could be wishful thinking, but if it’s golf will explode in popularity. I also think we’ll see more big events being played outside the US. Wonder what this will mean for TV. Assume the big events would have their own separate contract …for huge money. Players win, fans win and sponsors win. All because Norman and Yassir and Phil had the vision.

They need to totally revamp the OWGR because its a joke. If you are not playing PGA Tour events you get basically no points. The winner of the Sunshine Tour Tour Championship won himself a pathetic 3.16 OWGR points. This is the top players on the order of merit playing. How on earth are you supposed to get anywhere in terms of rankings if you only get 3 points? Versus PGA Tour events giving 60 points to the winner.
As for LIV and them getting points. People look at the field and say yes its only 50 odd guys but they forget its those same 50 guys playing every week. Every week whoever wins had to beat Rahm, Smith, DJ, Brooks, Bryson, Reed, Hatton etc. Cant say the same for the PGA Tour where the top 30 players rarely all play.

Tiger and Rory have lions share of PGAT equity . They could as sweetner to other players give up majority of that back into player pool for team ownership . There also possible tie in between TGL and LIV teams . 11 LIV teams have player equity add Tiger Rory maybe Hideki and 1 other you have the ideal 15 for format .

Want in one hand…nothing will happen until DOJ says it can and I do not see them allowing the foreign monies being allowed into a US business. It should just be the PGA-DP Tour-LIV under the umbrella of PIF. LIV will need to change their format and only the best players (top 5) be allowed to play in signature events. Based on LIV players ranking from the signature events they could earn OWGR points for potential ranking to qualify for majors.

  • @user-ir6iy2jn5r

All that would be needed would be for the PGA to stop banning LIV players. Those players would happily do both just like Tiger used to. Very few schedule conflicts. Tiger always played in different world tours for huge guaranteed “appearance” fees and played a somewhat more limited PGA schedule. PGA was fine with that then.

I prefer my idea: pgat adopts a team format that they implement next year. Keep the signature events and individual events but some of the sleepy events would now be team events for just pgat teams. Let the PIF pay for that and guarantee money and equity building. Then you have a team worlds between the pgat and Liv top 4 of each. No owgr for team events so if liv guys want owgr they can play on the pgat event or dp events

As part of the agreement they would have to Bryson, Brooks, Phil, DJ and others would have to to agree to play these signature events and them to their schedule.

Why must it be so difficult, easy solution:
    1. PGA and DP play regular schedule to get include LIV Players.
    2. Once a month have a tournament where the top 80 world rankings play a LIV event call it PGA Premier Event! With random draw for teams.
One tour and everybody is happy! It’s not that hard!

LIV could go to 4 days and have a cut at 54 and still keep 54 relevant. Unfortunately, that would break the team format. They could do the first two days are group competition for the cut. That would be interesting. Not sure if it's viable, but they could allow the top 10 finishers where their team didn't make it to continue as individuals. The last two days could still be shotgun. If there is a deal to be done, it would explain why the commentators were a lot more inclusive this time at the Masters. But DAMN, how many times did they mention that Sheffler was the #1 player in the world. They even asked Bryson if he was excited to play the #1 player in the world. I mean, c'mon.

There are contracts in place and formats that are different so what you said doesn't make much sense...including some wishful thinking.
I have 3 simple suggestions to normalize golf:
    1) The Majors can collectively stop/mend the split with one simple decision: Just invite the top 20 golfers on LIV to all the Majors...easy as pie, and fair.
    2) Tours stay separate and it's up to a tour to make their tour more attractive to keep or attract golfers...there is enough space for other tours and everything golf doesn't have to be by and for the PGA. Golf is a world sport, not an American sport...and the PGA must accept that.
And when they do, PGA and LIV sit down and agree to create a few International tournaments to compete against each other and this toxic golf situation can turn into a healthy golf competition...golfers happy and most important, golf fans and supporters happy!
    3) Scrap Presidents Cup and replace with PGA vs LIV Cup every 2 years...and keep Ryder Cup between America (PGA) and Europe (DP Tour).

    • @pauljcross2289
