ROMANIA EUROVISION 2022 - REACTING TO WRS WITH ‘LLÁMAME’ (FIRST LISTEN)

  • Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my name’s Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan. In todays video, I reacted to Romania’s song for ESC 2022, ‘Llámame’ by WRS.
For a bit of context, Romania failed to qualify last year with Roxen’s empowering indie pop song ‘Amnesia’, which was my third favourite song from 2021. The staging and performance didn’t quite work due to nerves and potential sound engineering issues, so she unfortunately didn’t go through. Romania has missed out on the final since 2017, so therefore I would like to see this once Eurovision powerhouse get their mojo back.
Romania opted for a national final format this year, and WRS was chosen with the song ‘Llámame’ which is Spanish for ‘Call Me’. The first thing that stood out to me here, was the unique Romanian club sound which we haven’t heard at the contest since the early 10s from Romania. It’s reminiscent of the music of Inna, Edward Maya, and Alexandra Stan. So this was quite nice to hear as it really has a level of identity.
The catchy melody in the chorus was something I also enjoyed, despite the chords in this section being incredibly restricted to just two. I think they could have kept the good hook line here but added a few extra chords to elevate the track and perhaps take it to a more funky area without it losing too much of the obtained identity.
The performance was also quite strong, with a solid choreography, light show, and chemistry between the dances, which was a great achievement. This should be taken to Turin with minimal tweaks.
The middle 8 also brought the song to life a bit more, with the addition of the extra percussions and piano line to take it in a new direction. The vocals also providing a harmony line in the last chorus was a nice touch.
Overall, the song was good, and I didn’t really have many criticisms. However, for the genre, it can’t really be very experimental, and that knocks it back slightly.
    Initial Score: 7/10

It's catchy and a guilty pleasure for many people. Those words are Spanish and some moves. It's good for some clubs and it's being already played. What you think at the end is wrong it's not. It's resampling some way to sing filamento which has this particularity

Thanks for this review Rachel. Yes I love this entry it’s great.
    Just catchy and great choreography.
A lot of fun. I really do enjoy it.
Oddly enough I played it my dad and he didn’t like it but that’s just him and we all have our own ideas about what makes good music.
I actually think it’s a fantastic entry and I’m trusting in this to qualify despite the poor bookies odds at present.
But without a doubt bookies do get a lot wrong so we definitely shouldn’t pay much attention to them

Hiya Rach, nice to see ya! Glad you're feeling a bit better ^^
I have quite a soft spot for Romania as a country (have made some great friends from the diaspora here, and have become quite acquainted with the culture), so it pains me to say that I don't really... let's say "connect" with this one :( They also had a really cool rock-folksy song in Romanian that came 3rd which I much preferred, but I'll be honest in saying that this has far more international appeal, is catchier, and he is charismatic on stage. I'm just over the club bangers with basic Spanish lyrics. Still, mult noroc România, we haven't had you in the final lineup for way too long!

This is such a guilty pleasure song for me, it reminds me a lot of Spanish hits from the late 90s and early 2000s (think of David Civera or Raúl). It's got a dated charm, from the melody to the choreography, that I definitely enjoy. I'm sure if this qualifies it'll get points from Spain, it actually trended in Spanish Twitter.

Has anyone picked up on the fact that this song shares its title with the Spanish entry for 1962? (Yes ,1962!) Víctor Balaguer was the singer. Came in last (zero points) tied with Belgium, Austria and the Netherlands. I hope history doesn't repeat itself for Romania this year... Not one of my favorites in 2022, though. Feel better, Rachel!

This wasn't the best song in the entire Romanian selection, but it was a stand out since the start, and the Jury system where they chose all the entries going forward was kinda rigged. The two other favourites (ARIS and E-an-na) would have easily been top 10 songs but I mean this isn't a bad entry by Romanian standards in the 2010s. It's catchy and WRS is very likable. He's gone on a long journey since the beginning since he didn't have other dancers at the beginning and the bridge wasn't there in the original, so there's been a revamp! There is Spanish in the song which shows a different side of Romania. This will stand out amongst slower songs and ballad-type songs that there seems to be more of this year! It's incredibly catchy and very much a club banger. It gets better and better with each listen as the chorus and melody after get stuck in your head. It's going down decently with the community.

I find the melody too simple and the lyrics pretty much mute, they don't actually say anything meaningful. And yes, I do get the sexuality references. Romanian clubby songs are played with English and Spanish words traditionally, which I actually don't like either. I don't think I liked a Romanian Eurovision song since Monica Anghel in the 90's.

Surprised this gets some decent reactions overall. I absolutely hate it. It's cheap, dated melody with no modern elements to it; the singer is not particularly charismatic either. I really hope it doesn't qualify as it doesn't do well to the competition imo.
