I love traveling alone. Being anonymous is so liberating. I do chat with the locals, but I like that I can move on and do what I want, when I want. Unfortunately, if you are depressed, you can be anywhere, with anyone and the feeling will not go away. I hope you find inner peace. I get mine by being grateful for the things that I learned or received everyday. 🙏

Being able to travel solo seems like a super power sometimes. Definitely takes some inner tenacity to weather the storms of being alone. The saving grace is that the "storms" pass more quickly as you become a more seasoned "sailor".

Only those with a strong mentality can truly appreciate the experience of traveling alone . The Philippines is an incredible place, albeit not without its imperfections. What makes it truly special is the company you keep. Unlike many other destinations, English is widely spoken here, allowing for meaningful connections with the locals. My time here has been life-changing, not just because of the country's natural beauty, but because of the warmth and kindness of the Filipino people.

It’s a reason why socializing is such an important practice.
It’s like when people feel lonely at the movie theatre, but when you look around there’s tons of people.
Sure you don’t have to talk to them all. But what would we do if we were children? Probably just walk up to someone and say hi, or maybe just stare… lol
Somewhere along the lines we get rusty at making friends or just conversation with strangers. Massively underrated skill.

I’m feeling this for the first time solo traveling. I always travel solo and it helps my depression. I meet random people go on adventures with them etc. This time around it’s different. Loneliness is effecting me while traveling for the first time. Finding it hard to talk to people. First time I’ve travelled since all the lockdowns etc. I’m wandering if the world has also changed a bit. Like people seem to be harder to approach. Or maybe it’s just me. I feel for you brother. I’m actually in Boracay now feeling the exact same way minus anxiety, I don’t get anxiety. Just depression and loneliness. It’s a damn unshakable monster at times. Hang in there and keep searching for your joy. Glad you have somewhere that makes you feel better. Sadly I’m still searching for that place within at 41 years old it grind you down. A form of torture some would say. Wishing everyone a new year full of blessings and abundance in your lives. Peace

There's no magic word potion to make sense of life, however, finding ways to feel fulfilled is possible! Then ones focus is on sharing energy and time doing things you feel inspired by, in a way of sharing, in a way of giving. Then the focus of ones attention is coming from a place of light and blessings. The other option is being mentally consumed with thoughts of what one lacks. I'm 46, lack stuff, like a partner I feel right with etc. yet have been progressively realizing that while being alone is kinda shitty feeling, at times, being with the wrong people is even worse, and that goes for even if they are good people, if it's just not the right match for whatever reason one needs to get out of there if it's at all a possibility that makes sense to do, hopefully with out hurting others, but sometimes you need to care for yourself, and others will find their way. There really is a lot to learn through being on ones own. We're never actually alone in the Spirit.

What energy do you bring to this experience? A lot of vloggers I watch are very positive, energetic, open, adventurous and friendly. They bring this energy everyday or as much as possible. In the Philippines, instead of beaches, maybe it might be better to travel to the mountains. The mountains are a nice contrast to the beaches since the weather is cooler, no beaches, no coconut trees but lots of pine trees and mountain scenery. You can smell the pine trees. The coolest months are Dec and Jan. It gets to around 10 C at night. Nothing sub zero but cold enough to need some form of heating in the home or heavy blankets.

@Gabi....You should have explored the mountains and rural areas of Cebu island and not stayed in the urban center of Cebu City if you really wanted something to soothe your mind and keep your mental health in check. The mountains of Cebu City alone (just a few minutes drive uphill) has lots of natural and man-made attractions such as adventure parks, botanical gardens, rock formations, scenic peaks, scenic roads, scenic villages and farmlands, camp grounds/sites, mountain resorts, viewing decks, chic restaurants/cafes, glamping sites and hiking trails. And if you drive further out to either south or north of Cebu City to rural towns and cities, paved roads crisscross the mountains offering you amazing sceneries as they take you to quaint mountain villages and farmlands, waterfalls, springs, lush jungles and dozens of mountain peaks that you can easily climb in just few minutes of short trek. Cebu is a very big island that has hundreds of calming natural wonders such as the famous turquoise blue waters of its waterfalls, cold springs, streams, lakes and many semi-secluded white sandy beaches all to yourself that may have given you some sort of healing.

I wished I lived around you so that I could visit you but I know Flo will be there for you. Yes, your video had a huge effect on me like no other video has had. There are 76141 islands in the Philippines, if you are going to visit, you must first research what is a good place and not crowded. What I noticed is that foreign tourists tend to go to crowded places because that's what they see on social media and was recommended. Most of the foreigners don't like the crowded. area. They won't discover the gem of the Philippines because they only know to go to Boracay, Palawan, Cebu and Siargao where it's too crowded and you can't appreciate the beauty because you are too stress of what’s going on around you. When you go to the island that is not chaotic yet you will feel the tranquility.
This year was the first time I brought my husband to my island, the island of Romblon he calls it fisherman's village. he really love the place, it's only 30 minutes away from Boracay but there aren't too many tourists. My husband said that when he gets old, he wants me to take him in Romblon and he wants us to live there. because, if in the future if he gets dementia, Ihe wants to wake up in that beautiful paradaise every day.

The foreigners have always known the country has a lot of poor. They hear and see that in the media, plus the western media is big on the poverty and misery of people in the world, including their own people. Negative news sells a whole lot as we know. Not singling out the Philippines, India lifted her more than 400 million poor to an OK, just ok as opposed to a real miserable living conditions before. Nigeria's poor at the moment is running to 100 million. Poor Filipinos we have now is about 20 million. But let's look at the remaining over 80 million Filipinos who are not living the American middle income standard, but not literally poor either. They are FINE. Not many years ago, the over 50 percent of Filipinos are poor. Let's give credit to our government for attracting multinationals to give us jobs. It's the multinationals, most especially American multinationals that made China as we see it today. Business people go where there's lower wage-paid people. We have taken over the giant India to be the world's backoffice. That's hundreds of thousands of jobs and counting. Those ultra modern skycrapers we have are either condos or American and European overseas backoffices and call centres. That's the work of our government. Yes, they are corrupt, but they work. Hopefully they do more. That says that the majority of us are not poor. Poor countries with tiny percent yet millions of poor are poor as generally considered by anyone in the world. The western media shows the negative of these countries everywhere and everytime. The west and the US has their share of misery and poverty. Crime for one in the US is non-stop and shootings of school kids is one that any government in the world hope and pray they won't have. That is to mention one of the many other crimes and developing issues in the west. The Philippines is a laggard they say behind its neighbors. In the big cities, not really. Too many poor, yet it is very modern and developments as we see continues. Cranes kept working during the pandemic. It is a good sign. Poor Filipinos, Indians, Nigerians and all poor people in many other countries including those living in the streets of Philadelphia and California is disappointing. But even the rich and powerful cannot do anything swift to solve the issue. Being merely ordinary citizens including the foreigners, we cannot do anything. The poor Filipinos shouldn't affect our day to day lives to the point of leaving. Otherwise, that narrows the choice for a good world travel for you find poor people even in rich countries. Poor people shouldn't be a hindrance to living our short lives.

So you go to a foreign country where you don't know a soul and you wonder why you feel lonely? I am an American who retired here last year, and I do understand the loneliness you felt because I felt the same for the first month or two. I think this is normal for anyone in this situation. Eventually I found a nice little apartment a few km from where you were staying in IT park. I have to say that the Filipinos at the apartment complex where I am now are all very nice and friendly. It takes time to make connections with people. You can't expect to breeze through a different town each day on your motorbike and not feel lonely. Vehicle registrations are a real problem here and can take forever. I just think that the problem is you, not the Philippines. I don't understand why you think loneliness is a mental health thing, I just think it is a normal consequence of traveling to a big city in a foreign country. I have been to Thailand also, and I feel the opposite of how you feel. I felt like the language barrier was insurmountable in Thailand and I prefer the Philippines because the majority of Filipinos know some English. At least I can read the street signs and labels here. I couldn't even tell what I was buying in the 7-11 in Thailand. In Thailand I thought people were unfriendly at first, until I realized that many just didn't speak English well enough to have a conversation. I will say that the Thais had some very top quality cannabis in their weed stores. That is probably the only thing I miss from Thailand here in the Philippines. Good luck on your channel and in your travels sir, and by all means go where you feel most comfortable.

I find the social life overseas to be better than what I experience at home so I'm currently in a strange place today having pulled the plug on my trip to Vietnam via Bali. I have a bad back so I thought it was sensible to defer travel until I was better. Menatally though I really needed a change in scenery although I like where I live. Mixed emotions as they say. Guess The Phillipines was way outside your comfort zone right now. Glad you're feeling better back in Thailand. I envy you being OS. Really appreciate your honesty and hope things work out with future travel plans.

Gabi, I just want to cheer you up! ❤ Everyone is different so no need to push yourself to be like others. You are in control of your own health and happiness. Do what make you feel good because you are the one who feel and experience it, not other people. No need to feel guilty! Happiness comes from inside.

Thank you for being truthful about your feelings. The issue is not the place but how you feel. Who knows when everything clears up you might reconsider visiting again. I suggest you go to the north up there in the mountains province in the Cordillera region.

Thank you for sharing and your honesty. A lot of people will not understand your situation unless they’ve gone through what you’ve experienced in life. We’ve traveled the world for a bit and do understand what you mean. I get it. I was in Korea last time and it just hit me that I’m home sick and I was having a mental breakdown. I, myself, didn’t understand why I was feeling that way when I actually like being in Korea.
Your mental health is more important than what people would say. Take care of yourself and continue what makes you happy … peace ✌️ ☮️

Oh man Gabi, I love this episode! Really resonates with me, especially your 'Paradise Overdose' and the anxiety in the face of loneliness. Mine came having to spend much of my young years sort of alone and young adult years working in remote and isolated parts of the world. When I would return from isolated barren and isolated work places to paradise places for weeks or months, and sometimes I would experience pretty pronounced social anxiety and sadness in paradise and depression, and depression and hopelessness when returning to work in desolate isolation. People said I had the best life, making very good money months and then going to anywhere in the world. But honestly Gabi, as you likely understand I was very miserable, and became more anxious and sad, to the point where I found little joy an anything.
However, A good number of years ago, when I whet through the loss of both, parents, having my business and everything I worked for stolen by some corrupt family members while I was caring for my dying parents, Loosing a lovely fiancé and a few best friends along the way, with some simple insights from someone who provided some simple insights to un-hook from some simple hooks everyone has to some degree, I was able to find peace there I was alone, isolated or with others. King back, it's hard to imagine how simple and now seemingly simple things could become so overwhelming. Spent almost the last two decades doing what I can to try to help others find some direction out of their anxiety, I suspect Gabi, being such an aware and searching person, what you occasionally struggle is not as located or difficult to overcome as it may seem, usually it's a result too much force and will applied in the wrong way and time (sort of like riding a motorcycle or flying an aircraft) that keeps us hooked into a that loop of negative thoughts and emotions, that only have the power over us that we give it through our struggle that prevents us from seeing.
If you you ever want to chat about such things. privately or possibly online I'd appreciate doing so. Thanks again, what you share is a blessing for many.

Bro, you’ve had some heavy losses. Love your words of compassion and encouragement.
I visited Thailand first time 7 months after breaking up with a gal I thought I would marry.
Being alone in Thailand was both amazing and awkward. Bittersweet as I miss her still after 10 months. I just want to feel better again but I see that others struggle too for many reasons.
I also work remotely from home and the isolation can feel like death. I’ve lost my motivation for life but traveling is a new adventure… which I see has its ups and downs.

Hi Gabi, I'm a filipino who moved to New Zealand over 16 or so years ago with my parents and currently living in Australia. I can definitely relate to your feelings of social anxiety and loneliness. Your video has been really encouraging to me to know that I am not alone. I was born in Cebu but don't feel at home whenever I go back to visit because we left so long ago. I hardly know the area. It has changed so much since we left in 2006. I definitely feel New Zealand as home but at the same time wanting to explore. Australia is the safer bet so here I am. I have been struggling with feelings of loneliness for the past few months and your words have really comforted me. You are so right. We need to do what is right for our mental health and make that a priority. Thank you for your openness in sharing. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to more videos! Take care!

I totally understand how you feel since I grew up in the Philippines and was born here but somehow I felt anxiety even though I was surrounded by family and friends. When transferred to Orange County California I still felt anxiety ( but a lot less this time ) but when I transferred to Los Angeles my anxiety disappeared probably because I was near the Big Film Studios. I met a lot of people who work in the entertainment industry and I noticed that we all have the same aspirations and goals in life since I all love movies I finally felt and my anxiety is finally gone. PS...I also love the cold weather and I hate sweating so I guess LA is perfect for me ( even though everything is expensive including the rent. I guess it's hard to find the most perfect place in the world but as long as your anxiety is gone in that particular place then that place is perfect for you ).

    • @ChadGardenSinLA

I can relate, I also live in the heart of the Los Angeles and it can be very lonely, which is ironic given the density and population of this town. But I've found that mindfulness and the breathing exercise really help me to center myself and to think more clearly. I, too, have been enjoying the May gray and June gloom - it makes me so happy to see everything so green and lush! I just hiked the Hollywood sign on Thursday and man was it nice without all that sun and heat beating down on me. I'm glad to see the planet was healing itself when we were on lockdown. 😃🩹🌲
