- Watch the video for The Replacements - "Takin' A Ride". The 40th anniversary deluxe edition of SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH is out now. Order your copy here Rhino.lnk.to/SorryMaDlxID
The Replacements’ 1981 Twin/Tone Records debut, SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH, heralded the Minneapolis-based band’s competing tendencies toward indelible genius and reckless abandon. The ’Mats’ legendary founding line-up - lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Paul Westerberg, drummer Chris Mars, and brothers Bob and Tommy Stinson (lead guitar and bass respectively) - unleashed a thrilling, dynamic sound on the album with now-classic songs like “Takin’ A Ride,” “Shiftless When Idle,” and “Customer.”
We're celebrating the 40th anniversary of SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH with a 4CD/1LP set that offers a remarkable document of The Replacements’ formative years. Of the set’s 100 tracks, 67 have never been released before, including the first demos the band recorded in early 1980, as well as a professionally captured concert from January 1981. Along with a newly remastered version of the original album, it also uncovers many unreleased rough mixes, alternate takes, and demos from the band’s first 18 months together. The LP included in the set, titled Deliberate Noise, presents an alternate version of the original album using these previously unreleased tracks. The Deluxe Edition ends on a high note with the earliest professional live recording of The Replacements. The previously unreleased concert, dubbed Unsuitable for Airplay, was captured by Twin/Tone’s mobile unit on January 23, 1981, at the 7th St Entry in Minneapolis, MN.

Jonny and Fred driving around in Dottie!
This is fantastic 😎🥰😎🥰😎
That is my apartment at the Modesto I had for 6 years!!! WOW! APARTMENT #1 1985-1991! The CC was my living room!!!
So many familiar faces! You can tell this was made with love. RAWK!
It's so beautiful why'd it make me wanna cry!
They opened with this when I saw them in 2013 (Riot Fest, Chicago)
Miserable & cold day … worth it though. I’d like to see them put it together at least one more time before it’s over.
Cait, Come to Minneapolis and we’ll take you for this ride! 💖
Cause we’re getting old?
Ahhhh - Minneapolis in the 80’s - what a time and what a place…….!!!!!!
Wish I could go back and work on my tan all day at Calhoun - then head out to the bars and chase tail in the evening……..👍
An uptown weekend tradition ;)
Love every second of this video. Excellent being on this drive, exploring Minneapolis with stops to highlight all the important places and people in the Mats history. Beautiful concept and execution by the production staff and all involved, including Fred the dog. Kudos Rhino on creating more than a promo vid.
This is wonderful! I was a late bloomer when it came to punk music and only discovered The Replacements a few years back. To learn that they're from my beloved city via this homage was amazing! Love the band, love the music, SUPER LOVE the video!! 💚
🤘 Minneapolis 🤘
💕👍! This was MY LIFE from 80-91!!! Cannot believe I'm going to be 60 next year and Minneapolis is NOT the same... but Wow! Just..... WOW!
The apartment in the Modesto was my place for 5/6 years!all the dudes got kicked out so as rock chicks we rented the place and let all of our friends party harder than ever dude did!!!! 8 AMand the Modesto Girls would be pounding screwdrivers and shooting coke! Great times.
..
.
WOW! As a lifelong fan and a former Minneapolis resident, I loved this video. Wish my cousin was around still to see it.
Oar Folk, the CC club, the Entry...loved those years!!!
Two out of three are still around and haven't changed, so not bad!
*Minneapolis approves of this message*
Of course the song is great and glad to hear it, 💜The Replacements, but Fred, and his owner Jon, are the real deal. No where in the Twin Cities, the midwest, perhaps all of America, will you find a man so in love with music and his local music scene. Also have to mention, Jon is one of the best stylists, haircutters, whatever you want to call it, I have ever had the pleasure of sitting for. I only lived in St. Paul for a year and never got my hair cut anywhere else but HiFi Hair. If you love music, want to look like a rockstar (many get their hairs cut here), have great conversation and meet a wonderful, real guy, this is the only place in Minneapolis to go. Love ya Jonny...rock on🤘
All those landmarks! I lived there in the 80's and it brings back some great memories. Some great cameos in there too
Great times.....I'm going to be 60 years old this year....you HAD to be there....lived at the Modesto Apartments......👍😻 After the dudes were kicked out a bunch of us girls moved in ... WITH THE DUDES THAT GOT KICKED OUT ALWAYS ABOUT! Fkng INSANE times- The Modesto Girls: Sarah H., Trish R., 17 year old Ellen , Barrie Kay from OKC ....CRAZY!!!!
A love letter to my city! Love me some Mats.
Great map for when I eventually make my pilgrimage to Minneapolis
I've been kind of obsessing over The Replacements during the pandemic and finished reading both books, so this video was a great visualizer of The Mats' early days!
It's great they put some of the easter eggs IN the video. And other ones that you've gotta go back and pause for. What a RIDE!!
Damn! This makes me miss Minneapolis.
Being from Minnesota, I love seeing all these places. I've been to most of these spots. Great video to a great song.
A Replacements video with a Dog? Winner!
My city, my dear friends! 💖
Mary Lucia - local radio host on The Current, and Paul's sister - yelling as he drives by. lol
Revolution Radio! Memories sometimes hurt.
A-MA-ZING video. Seriously.
My favourite punkish band ever and one of my favourite bands period. Discovered them many years ago but still after their main event years and wished I’d known of them earlier. Strangely enough I probably wouldnt have ‘got them’ then as I was probably up the Yes album arse then ( cool bit in the video). They’re really just a cooler version of the Rolling Stones in my opinion and that’s no bad thing.
Love this video, tons of history! And one of the best Mats songs.
As somebody who has a copy of “The Yes Album” buried somewhere deep in my closet, I just gotta’ say “Sorry Ma” KICKS ITS ASS!
The Yes album, in this case literally "The Yes album," is a nod to Bob Stinson who was a huge Steve Howe fan. The guy at the counter is Steve McClellan, who ran and booked First Ave from 1978-2006 and the customer is Kevin Cole, longtime First Ave DJ and now the program director at KEXP in Seattle. The record store they're in is HiFi Hair and Records, owned by Jon Clifford, the guy with the dog and the sweet Pontiac ride. Many, many other Easter eggs in the video, including cameos from Paul and Tommy's sisters and Tommy's mom.
@@pdlars thank you!
Long Live the 'Mats!
Brilliant idea! Funk yeah! This is awesome.
A most excellent band and video 😊❤️🌹🎶🎶🎶
Wow, a music video I want to watch again. Great job!
Man, was that fun to watch or what?
I know Westerberg would hate me for saying this but I still think Sorry Ma is their best album -- or at least my favorite
Great song, amazing group and video !
Love it! Love it!
is it a '64 Catalina? Smooth whip. Was looking for Duffy's, Uptown Bar, Liquor Lyle's, Dania Hall, you can't go back again- but you can drive by. CC is still there, drop by- bring dogs!! Ü♫

Enjoyed that
🤘MINNEAPOLIS🤘
This is really charming. Is it part of a project of making new videos for Replacements classics? Hope so.
Anybody else remember hanging out at Garage D’or, and Bob Stinson & Grant Hart bullshitting together at the front counter??? Mould’s Flying V on display above the bathroom/basement stairs. Man I miss Garage D’or……
