One of the best (if not best) 2 Way forwards in the NHL in Patrice Bergeron has officially retired. After 19 seasons as a Boston Bruin, we break down his impact in the game & how he was able to so good for so long. - Sport
I’m not gonna lie I’m really sad about this, thanks for everything Bergie.
I’m Not You Son Of A B****
3-1 lead
A true captain
Class act
Man I wish he gave it one more go but I respect his decision. Gonna be so weird tuning into Boston games and not seeing Bergy for the first time in my life
I am old enough to remember life before Bergeron, and it feels surreal that we are here, that he has retired. We knew it was coming, eventually. Its been a great run, and look forward to his induction into the Hall of Fame.
Its going to be weird like seeing Ray Borque in a Colorado Avalanche uniform was weird, but you arent old enough to remember that.
My favorite player all time! I’m heartbroken! He was still so good. Ugh!
Could’ve easily played for another 1-2 years.
No He Wasn’t You A******
Most Likely With His Hometown Team Montreal. And Before You Start Arguing I Would Just Simulate His Career In Montreal On NHL 23
@@shawnbaker8360 Funny, I would have guessed Montreal fans would have preferred Big Z over Bergeron! With all the great memories he left with Habs fans, and all. I guess ya learn something new every day!
12 years of being a B's fan, Bergeron has always been here.
Man when the puck drops in October it's going to feel weird without 37.
Bergy, thank you for everything you have done for the Bruins and the city of Boston. Enjoy your time with your family.
Actually, A Leafs and Habs fan (sounds impossible), but I was almost in tears after that loss to Florida. Those hugs suggested he wasn't coming back, and his teammates knew he wasn't coming back. And the team was so good last year.
Did you have a parent who was a Leaf fan and another who was a Habs fan? That’s the only possible explanation I could see for this aha
My favorite moment form him is when he asked Tage Thompson how his wife was doing. I don't think that Boston is going to make it far they are going to have to fight for every point.
They should’ve began the rebuild prior to last season.
Yep. Just absolute class act all around.
as a Bostonian, Bergeron was like the 2nd Ray Bourque…. a true Bruin……… and my favorite Bergeron memory is seeing him sitting on the plane coming home from Vancouver with a beer in his hand and his arm around the cup and his head leaning against it… seeing that was complete fulfillment for a Bruins fan.
He's a class act and a warrior 💪
I still can’t believe he played with a punctured lung. What an animal.
@@hockeypsychology I know that’s crazy
@@hockeypsychologyand a broken nose, cracked ribs ,
Legend. Thank you for everything! Your family comes first now and we understand, but that doesn’t make you any less of our family! Love you and thank you! #MerciBergy
Bergy was drafted when I was 14...my entire adult life I have had the pleasure to watch Krecji and Bergy.
When Lucic didn't mention either of them in his reintroduction interview I started preparing for this.
It still hurts so much...I've lost both my grandparents in the last 17 months, and this feels like the same kinda thing honestly.
Sorry to hear about your grandparents. I lost my mother the year after they won the Stanley Cup.
Man I can’t believe he’s retired the end of an era
Me neither. Feels surreal
@@hockeypsychology indeed
Bergeron is my favorite player ever since I was little and always will be my favorite memory from one of his games is when he won the Stanley cup in 2011
Bergeron was the guy who basically taught me how to play, I modeled my entire playing style after him, off and on the ice. No one else in the league is as respected or revered the way Bergeron was. You could see it with players across the league. This one hurts, but all good things must come to an end. And like he said himself, he's leaving on his terms, and at the top of his game.
Boston won't ever be the same. #37
Starting the centennial season without Bergeron will definitely feel weird. Not only one of the best two way forwards ever, but also one of the best leaders in hockey history.
As a rangers fan thank you for all you’ve done for hockey and humanity Patrice. I’m so glad I no longer have to hate you for 3-5 months a year.
LOL Thats a great sentiment, man! We will have to find you someone knew to hate for 3 -5 months.
Great person on and off the ice.. I watched him live winning the Stanley cup in game 7..
One of the most complete players to ever lace em up, his skill was only surpassed by his class. Once a legend always a legend...
irreplaceable hero in boston now just another legend. well see you in the rafters
its got to be the same fav Bergie moment in game 7 vs Leafs. he was an absolute childhood hero and role model for me. thank you for the memories. love you, my captain.
He also won a gold medal back in 2010 and a definite hall of famer for sure
This hurts but he gave us everything . My favorite moment was last season when he got a dirty hit and Marchand went after that asshat like a rabid dog , true respect
And this takes me right back to my point for the Milan Lucic haters
No way in hell that would have happened with Milan, Chara nor Nick Ritchie even just sitting on the bench
I'm sick of our 5' 9" lil ratt having to play enforcer-it's about damn time we brought in the beef!
I really thought the hurricanes series would wake up some scouts and fans- we need beef, I can still see Pasta on his knees thrown into the boards like a rag doll desperately trying to pass the puck to Jake.
we need beef!
Don't care if it's a little bit slower than the rest of the players. It's there. Reduces injuries on our scorers.
No matter how fast and skilled they get? This is still hockey folks!
Bigger is always going to be better separating a player from a puck, and even more importantly in the case of someone like Bergeron -separating your opponents from your scorers.
I'm in original six or Bobby or fan club member- we haven't seen the cheap shots Bergeron has taken the last two years, in his entire career.
Everyone keeps trying to make this game get all sophisticated, overanalyze statistics-
Use Mitch Miller as a whipping post when they have no idea the early highlights of zdeno Chara humiliating and bullying players
it's hockey. Roller derby on ice- there's going to be blood.
Otherwise they would call it "broomball"
Milan Lucic will clean up the garbage so Brad marchand & Pasta can get back to the business of scoring.
He's good, but still can't score from the sin-bin.
But I think lucic can staring down the right rookie!
Yeah, that was great. I'll miss him, but the thing about the Bruins is that it's not just about the stars, it's about the team.
Loved Bergeron since he came into the league. Pure class act. Just to bad he played for Boston.
I'm a habs fan and i will never talk shit about Patrice Bergeron! He was the first hockey player I met in my life. He was so humble and was only a rookie! What a great player
Make sure you talk nice about Brad Marchand, too! LOL it sounds like a fantastic memory! Im glad you got to meet him.
So much respect!
I may not be a Bruins fan and didn't really get into hockey until April 2023. I can only imagine how hard this is going to be for Boston and for their fans/Bergeron fans. I often think players are going to be around for forever, but, when someone announces their retirement or I realize how old they really are, I can't help but think, "Dang, they've been around for that long?" It's probably an extremely difficult decision for Patrice Bergeron to make because of how good he is and how much he loves the sport, but I wish all the best for him in his retirement.
Nope. They got a first-ballot HoF player.
He is the best player to retire in a long time.
Guy is going to help this franchise for a long time to come.
Two players I really feel fortunate to have seen in person - Bergeron and Kopitar. Aside from the talent, skill, and work ethic, both of them make it look easy! They never seemed to be trying too hard or even skating too hard...just coasting around, but someone ALWAYS in the middle of nearly ever play. Really a joy to sit in the stands and be able to see the entire ice and just watch them casually orchestrate, or influence, every darn play.
All time favorite player.
Like many of us..I didn't think it would be so hard to hear those words..Thanks Patrice👏😥🤩..one of my personal memories will be from 2/16/23..saw you in Nashville....as usual watched for all of your shifts..But what stood out was after every timeout..and the Bergeron line came out...The Captain would huddle w/his line..you could see Patrice going over Strategy....that's what a Leader does..that's what made him so special...good luck..been watching your press conference.🖤💛🏆🎉🤩
I was at the game that he got boarded by Jones. It was the scariest thing I had ever witnessed as they lifted his nearly lifeless body off the ice. The Bruins alumni that happened to be in the box with us were in tears just like the rest of us. Bergy is true Bruins, a lifer, always a Bruin.
“This was a tough way to go out”… yeah that’s quite an understatement
Bergeron is one of the best pure centers of all time. 1st ballot Hall of Famer without a doubt
from Hawks fan, you played the game the right way, enjoy your retirement....
Boston took a hit this offseason. Losing Berg Kriecji and Hall might be too much to overcome. Hall on the third line was huge for their depth and being strong up the middle was so crucial for them to be as dominant as they were last season
People are really sleeping on the hall loss. But I guess it's time for a rebuild.
@@Gergentine not yet, I think they will push for the next season for the older core that they still have (Marchand etc.), should they go into a rebuild now? Probably but I don’t think they will for a few years.
@@Gergentinethanks for the first sincerely red wings fans
I don't know who fans are looking at? We have one hell of a core on both defensive end and offense
You can't judge a rental player that was here for ten weeks? Orlov, Hathaway & bertuzzi were intended on being rentals, to keep the core together
Now the upset over bertuzzi is very ignorant-he was only here for 10 weeks, came from the Detroit Red wings, playing on a line with one of the top scorers in the NHL? There's only one way to go in his stats, that he will never produce at that level again!
Boston fans didn't bother looking at his injury history?
there is an argument for Hall. But there's also a flip side that doesn't make sense, tells me there's something else going on in the locker room. Hall is now on his 6th team in his 13-year career? Why didn't any team lock in this Hart trophy winner?
That tells me there's something I don't know. I do know he needs a shot first mentality that he's never getting, and that's probably why he'll work well with bedard. We could never get Taylor Hall to have a shot first mentality.
I don't see us trading away Jake debrusk with Hall gone. Cuz those are our speed boys. And Jake said a long time ago he wants to be a career Bruin.
Brad marchand was playing at about 80% last season according to him... That type of surgery takes a long time to recover, so we may be seeing the return of his salsa dances on ice
But Brad marchand & some of us original sixers were holding our breath this season. Because the last time we broke our own franchise record for the most wins in the regular season? Was with new coach Tom Johnson 1970- 71 season. We didn't win a Stanley cup
The following year, big bad Bruins came out to play, humiliated from the previous season- won themselves the Stanley cup!
It seems that when the Bruins win under 50 games, they go further in the playoffs. That's season of Bobby Orr's flying goal? Bruins only won 40 out of 72 games
2011. Bruins won 47 games
So start cursing them when they approach 45 wins!
But folks, let's take a closer look-Patrice bergeron was out for the first four games of the Panthers series.
Bruins won three out of those four games.
When Patrice was back? We lost two out of three games. So it seems to me the core was holding it together, David krejci gets a lot of credit.
All is not lost.
I'm looking forward to Big Bad Bruins revenge tour this season. Playing fair, fast and skilled the past two years has gotten us no where.
Because we had no enforcer.
We got one now! #17 is baaaaaaack!
@@TheFoolintherainn Nice screed here, and generally agree with what you said. BUT . . . when Bergy wasnt in the line up, he was in the locker room. We wont be able to replace that stoic leadership quickly.
Not a Bruins fan (I like the Oilers) but Bergeron is a great player and it is sad to see him go, but I respect his decision.
jesus christ i miss this man so much
Heck of a career. Getting bounced in the first round after a historic reg season was so unfortunate... Bergie leaving is salt in an already festering wound for Boston.
Absolutely! it will be tough being excited for the start of this season, i have to admit it!
There is no replacing Bergy! I have a few fav moments from him as I’m a bruins fan. His game 7 against Toronto was incredible but also during that same playoffs he played in the finals with broken ribs, a punctured lung and a whole mess of other shit! Dude was tough and an incredible player. Def going to miss him playing
I'm a born and raised Leafs fan. I bleed blue and white. I absolutely despise the Boston Bruins and I always have. I hate their fans, I hate their players, just on general principle. I wouldn't piss on Brad Marchand if he was on fire. That being said, the only Bruin I've ever liked is Patrice Bergeron. Loved how he chose to play the game of hockey. Loved how he approached being an NHL star and representing our country at the Olympics. Loved everything about how he behaved as a leader on his team and an ambassador for the game of hockey. I wish he could've gone out with more of a bang, and I'm sorry to see him go. Best wishes #37!
Flyers fan here, A true legend has retired. What a amazing career. Cannot wait to see what you do next. 😊🤙
It's sad and as an opposing fan Bergeron is one the guys I respected most in this league. It's no surprise though, after seeing him after that last Boston game you knew that was it. Where he goes from here in the league is up to Patrice IMO. He really seems like one of those guys who would excel in any position in an organization, from top to bottom.
I would like to hear him call Bruins games and replace one of our announcers now. We ALL know who!
#37 to the Rafters.
I wanna say during the 2011 cup run, versus the Canucks, Burrows bit Bergeron’s finger during a scrum, and Lucic took exception, going over him. Now years later, you see Bergy sticking up for guys, I love the full circle
As a die hard bruins fan I really miss bergy. I think he was the beat two way forward to ever do it
Im an oilers fan but moreso a hockey fan. Bergeron has been my favorite current player. Without too many changes to the roster I think his influence will linger for years.
I was hoping he play one more year
Me too. He could’ve to.
He pretty well knew it was over the night
The Bruins got eliminated by the Florida Panthers
In Boston. Number 37 will hang in the Rafters
Along with likes of Number 4 Bobby Orr at the
TD Garden Good luck To him ✊ ⭐⭐⭐
My favourite moment of bergy’s was the Stanley cup win
Great video about a great player (on a much despised team.)
Marchy for Capt? You already know!
Yeah they had to announce something because a Boston reporter leaked a photo of Brad marchand at practice last week on Twitter -it was clear he had a "C" on his jersey
Bruins didn't denounce the photo, didn't call it fake, so they had to come up with something pretty quick.
I think it was a day or two later Patrice actually announced on July 19th, but we're just hearing about it now.
Couple years prior, they showed a video of Butch Cassidy handing Brad marchand the captaincy in the locker room at the beginning of the season, that was a joke and immediately we knew it was...
Nobody said that recent photo of Marchie wearing the C, was a joke.
He's your captain. McAvoy will be an assistant and probably be Captain when Brad hangs em up.
Oh my God he's going to bawl like a baby in his retirement video!
I have a feeling they're going to have to change the locks to keep him out of hockey!
Patrice was a great player. Never hated his game over the years.... now had he played for hte penguins who knows. But I digress, Bruins will still make the playoffs this year and do well. From game 1 forward, they have no problems.
Despise the Bruins but Bergeron has been nothing but a class act his entire career. Absolute bummer that he's retiring. Wishing him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.
As a Habs fan I am genetically programmed to hate the Bruins. Bergeron was a truly great hockey player. I am sad I will not have the opportunity to see him play again,
Hey Hab! Yeah, some of us are programmed to shoot at red... But we're the longest & greatest sports rivalry that's been shooting at each other!
I've been shooting since Ken Dryden left the Bruins
What the hell is up with Carey Price? 10 million-dollar contract on ltir-you're going to let him go out to pasture?
But if you don't, how the heck are you going to clear cap space to bring him up?
He came out of that 2005 draft with Rask, Quick -he needs to complete the trifecta of Stanley cups
I like Carey price-where the heck is he?
As a Devils fan .....much respect, good show Patrice. However if this shows how hard it is to win ao😮😮😮
PB 37 thanks for your hard play and leadership
Can you make a video on kaprizov telling us about his career favorite player please
honestly, even as a panthers fan, I wish he would have given in one more go
Extremely sad to see him retire. I will have tears in my eyes when they raise 37 to the rafters.
Honestly, it's for the best. I was getting tired of seeing him almost lose an eye four times a season from a high stick - it felt like he was turning into a magnet. Kidding aside, we're going to miss him tremendously and are happy for him in his retirement. The other teams will feel like there's more time and space on the ice now.
Yeah you nailed something that I've been complaining about since the hurricane series, since we gave up Nick Ritchie
Been watching this game since before Bobby Orr, but I can tell you bergeron's been taken more cheap shots the last two years then he has his entire career without an enforcer on the ice
I'm happy to have Lucic back. He's coming to home ice, top nutritionists, trainers and sports medicine - so I think we're going to see another gear.
But I'm tired of watching these players get bashed around because they're trying to play the athletic fast skilled game instead of original six hockey.
Big bad Bruins need to come out to play-I'm wondering if we had an enforcer on ice last season? Would that have extended bergeron's health another year?
I say bring in the beef-tired of watching Pasta getting tossed around like a rag doll.
You can have the most skilled players in the world, but if you don't have someone to separate your opponents from your scorers?
Your scorers can't get to work. Spending too much time in the sin-bin trying to protect themselves.
I noticed Sweeney's beefing up-big cheap beef... Let's go big bad Bruins!
Bergeron will be missed yet I will say this. Patrice was out first four games of playoffs. Bruins won three out of four games.
When he returned? Bruins lost two out of three games.
And them thar are the facts.
I'm betting that had a lot to do with his final decision
@@TheFoolintherainn Oh I wasn't talking about cheapshots, nobody's actually trying to take someone's eye out intentionally. Turnovers are what killed the Bruins in this last run though, nothing to do with Bergy being in or out.
How does boston move on going forward? Its such a big hole, it will be so interesting to see how it affects pastrnak and the rest of forward play
Well we already got a pretty good sample. Under Brad Marchand grit and captaincy, the Bruins won three out of four games against the Panthers. Patrice Bergeron return from injury and we proceeded to lose two out of three games.
I think we've proceeded forward
Think about players that have been held back and he and krejci's Shadow.
I think Charlie coyle is one of those players. He shows up for overtime and playoffs. 82 game player all season
Pavel zacha. 57 points last season, Patrice Bergeron got 58
Zaca is no slouch
The Bruins have locked in 2 Norris contenders in McAvoy and Lindholm for long-term
Boston will be fine
Pasta makes players around him better.
Tyler bertuzzi came from the Detroit Red wings for goodness sake- with the Bruins for ten lousy weeks-anyone playing next to David pastrnak is going to have exploding stats... Tyler bertuzzi has never had those statistics and will probably never get them again
And I'm glad we didn't sign Tyler Long term because he's broken both hands, Witcher some of the more devastating injuries to hockey players no one realizes-cuz there's nothing you can do about hands
Those snappy passes will not be around long. That's why franchises are balking at signing him long-term
He walked into a franchise that was already at a record-setting pace-he doesn't get credit for it.
That core team is still here
And they proved themselves the first four games of the playoffs-they were on Pace to win. And then Patrice Bergeron came back.
I'm not blaming him solely-but I could tell we lost our grit. Matthew tkachuck had a field day
Which would not have happened with Lucic even sitting on the bench
He'll show Freddy how to do a reversal the next time he finds himself in a chokehold with his back on the ice. Make it a fair fight
Gentlemen's hockey ended with regular season playoffs-Brad Marchands grit did the job. Until that job was taken away game 5
Can't wait for this season-it's going to be a blast
Looooooch!
I'm 26 so this is the first time in my memory that its hitting home how we are seeing the end of a generation that I will look back on fondly.
You think they will end up playing forever you know...
Yeah-sometimes I'm still waiting for Bobby Orr to come flying out of the tunnel!
One of the few great things about CZcams & the internet? Is you got them forever. Modern hockey fans are very lucky for that
-but they're not so lucky cuz you're actually not watching real hockey unless it's the fuzzy colorized digitized videos from decades past.
There was something about that Derek Sanderson flying hair that always made him look faster than everyone else!
And we could always pick out Ted Greene cuz he was the only NHL player wearing a helmet. Plates in his head.
@@TheFoolintherainn Thats a bit before my time ( I was still in diapers), but I felt the same way about Ray Bourque. it was very, very hard seeing him leave for Denver, but am very happy he got to win the Cup!
@@inconnu4961 felt the same way. Especially when you hear about the packages they were offered.
Living legend and guaranteed future hall-of-famer. What a great career. He deserved another Cup or two.
Even as a card-carrying Bruins Hater, I've got a ton of respect and reverence for Bergeron. I'd have done some pretty heinous things to get him to come to any of my teams, even though it would've been weird to see him wearing anything other than the black and gold.
Bergie marchand and pasta was one of the best lines in the league
Should have done one more though to make it as a nice round 20 year
TRES Cool/Heavy
There goes their Cup run.
Where? First four games against the Panthers Bergeron was out, under Brad marchand captaincy they won three out of four games
Bergeron return to the ice and the Bruins proceeded to lose two out of three games
But boy, what a slap in the face to zaca, pastrnak, coyle, Jake debrusk, Lindholm, McAvoy, that record-setting goalie tandem and an awesome coach
Because one player retires? One other roster player named Hall is traded to his SIXTH team in his 13-year career?
Orlov, Hathaway in bertuzzi 410 week rentals coming from lower teams. There was only one place for their stats to go... Up! Bertuzzi was playing on a line with a top NHL scorers-it's kind of tough to screw up those stats.
Have you seen Tyler's injury history? 10 weeks on your team... That's says nothing
his defecting to Toronto speaks volumes
Do you know Tyler's injury history?
You're going to flush this team down the toilet?
Like you did last Summer?
I've been challenging you haters to say any of these comments directly to hockey players faces. Cuz back in my day, if you wanted to insult them you showed up buying a ticket, told them to their faces
If you spit on Gerry cheevers? He might just spit back...
Mike milbury might jump over the boards take your shoe off and beat you with it!
And you would deserve it!
Have some respect for elite athletes that could kick your ass
While you don't even know how to lace up!
@@TheFoolintherainn You typed a lot...yet missed out on quite the point in the video.
Look at their lines and the future Bruins.
Imagine writing a whole novel like that and missing the point. OOF
@@TheFoolintherainn Bergy was seriously injured during the playoffs, and he isnt a young guy. Much harder to play through it!
I don’t think they are a playoff team. I still don’t understand how they won so many games last year.
I only watched them in the two games vs the wings and in the playoffs.
I am going to pat myself on the back when I said they would lose in the first round.
This team needs a serious rebuild. And that will be tough with no first.
If Patrice Bergeron remained injured throughout the first round of playoffs, Bruins would likely win
First four games Patrice was out-Bruins won three out of four games
Last three games Patrice played Bruins lost two out of three
Pat yourself on the back?
We've seen it so many times before with so many teams
Winter trade deadlines changes everything. 30 teams are studying the top two teams planning every prospect and winter trade deadline around beating those two teams
Top teams generally don't change their course so they remain predictable
But anytime the Bruins win much over 50 games in a season? They don't do well in the playoffs
But it was a blast watching these guys have fun playing hockey for the first time since 2019
We had 23 scores on our team? And a hockey goalie scoring?
What are you trying to rebuild?
"I-told-you-so" is about kindergarten level
Many of us original sixers already anticipated something like that would happen, because we know how this works. Tampa Bay going down to CBJ wasn't a curse, that was John Tortorella who built the Tampa cup-winning machine. So he designed his team to take on one team and one team only
That's how it's done now
but boy was that a fun season last year. It's all about the ride. This is a 32 team league and the NHL gods are very much influencing what goes on now.
I'm sure last summer you had them ranked at number thirty-two and were dying for a situation where you might actually be right!
Well broken analog clocks are correct, twice a day
I hear Toronto could use a few more fans... Feel free to join them.
Then your team will set the NHL record for longest Stanley cup drought
The team bertuzzi went to
hahaha!
They just lost one of the best two-way players in the game, and very unlikely Krejci comes back. These losses, along with Hall, are going to dramatically impact their offense. I don't think they will miss the playoffs, but it will be a struggle. If Marchand or Pastarnak misses significant time, then they will be screwed.
I don't know what first-round series other fans were looking at?
The first four games under Brad Marchand grit and Captaincy we won three out of four games
When Patrice Bergeron return game 5, we proceeded to lose two out of three games
Tyler bertuzzi was a 10-week rental coming from the Detroit Red wings for goodness sake, there was only one way for his stats to go!
You and I would have phenomenal statistics just standing on the ice picking our noses with David pastrnak there!
Lol!
Slight exaggeration, but you get my point.
The reason franchises are balking at signing bertuzzi long-term, is because he's broken both of his hands recently. That's devastating to a hockey player-you can't do anything, it's not like hip or knee surgery.
So those snappy passes won't be holding up too long in his career and franchises know it. That's why no one's signing him long-term.
Awesome guy, awesome player but actions speak louder than words-he defected to the leafs for God's sake. 🙄
Doesn't want to be in Boston
Best wishes to him!
And Patrice Bergeron.
We're going to be just fine. We've got top talent in on loyalty contract, to Norris trophy contenders, the top goalie tandem in the NHL? Pavel zacha pulled in 57 points, Bergeron had 58
Lot of these players have been in the shadows of these elite players that simply won't retire-but they've also been under their mentorship-they're ready to explode
Charlie coyle is no slouch-he shows up playoffs, overtime, clutch goal situations, plays all 82 games-
We had twenty-three different scorers plus a goalie last season? That is some serious depth
I feel so bad for the rest of the players on the Bruins who are being thoroughly trashed.
I don’t know about winning another cup, but the Bruins are still a playoff team.
I dont know either! i think the door just closed after being bounced by Florida. Unless we can absolutely steal a center man from some team without giving up our key guys, we will be lucky to make it into the 2nd round.
oh man did we lose a lot of talent this offseason. It's going to be tough even getting to the playoffs. We need centerman, desperately.
What major talent did we lose? Taylor Hall was number one draft pick, Hart trophy, he's now on his sixth team in a 13-year career-are you sure the problem is with the Bruins? We were not able to get him to a shoot-first mentality. And that's why he's going to be Scottie pippen to bedard in Chicago.
Tyler bertuzzi came from the Detroit Red wings for God's sake-there was only one way for his stats to go. He was here for 10 weeks, he's never had those stats before, and he will not have them again ifen he walked into a franchise that was on a historic record-setting pace-he doesn't get credit for that.
Bruins fans didn't even take the time to look at Tyler bertuzzi-he's broken both hands recently. Those snappy passes are not going to hold up, and that's why no franchise is signing him long-term
Orlov and Hathaway are replaceable.
Don Sweeney has brought in some outstanding veteran talent this season that you haven't even taken the time to look at. I'm not going to explain them, that's on you.
But here's the real thing that Bruins and other fans totally missed, and I don't understand why they continue to panic about Patrice Bergeron?
His skates were mentally hung up in March. But he continued to play
The first four games of the Panthers playoffs, Brad Marchand's grit and captaincy got us three out of four games
When Patrice Bergeron returned from injury, we proceeded to lose two out of three games
So the captain of the team that lost two out of three games is retiring. But the assistant captain that took them three out of four games ,who will probably be Captain, is staying.
🤔
We always knew 23-24 was going to be a disaster season, they threw it all at 22-23, and now we have to pay. Chapeu, Patrice, what a legend.
The last summer you were saying how 2022 - 23 was going to be a disaster season. Do you just copy and paste the same thing every summer changing the years?
Did you by any chance watch the Bruins Panthers series?
Because what I saw was the first four games, under Brad Marchand captaincy and grit-the Bruins won three out of four games
When Patrice Bergeron return to Captain the team, we lost two out of three
We lost our grit-no response to Matthew tkachuk
Taylor Hall was the number one draft pick, Hart trophy winner yet is on his sixth team and a 13-year career? As much as teams have tried, we cannot get him to be a shot first mentality player. So he's going to feed bedard the puck.
You saw Tyler bertuzzi on the Bruins for ten lousy weeks-coming all the way up to an elite team from the Detroit Red wings?
He walked into a franchise that was on a historic record-setting pace-he didn't cause it. I think he even said that in an interview
So his coming to the Bruins made him much better, brought out his potential under our system-yet he's never had those stats before and he won't have them again
you saw him for ten weeks and did you look up his history? He's recently broken both hands - there's no surgery and nothing that can be done about it.
Those snappy passes won't last long and that's why franchises won't sign him long-term. He's been on the trading block.
Franchises balk at what he wants in a long-term contract because of his injury history-and he didn't get the long-term out of the leafs.
Orlov and Hathaway are replaceable, mad respect to both
We have locked in two Norris trophy contenders, we have the best goalie tandem in the league, Jack Adams award winning coach
We had 23 scorers and a goalie score last season, that's some serious depth
But the thing that bothers me the most is that you don't even take a look at the veterans and players Don Sweeney has brought in. You have no idea who they are and when they start producing, suddenly you're going to be their biggest fan?
Patrice Bergeron mentally hung up his skates by March.
Brad Marchand has been leading this team, and he proved himself in the Panthers series.
It's just such overt disrespect to the rest of the team, elite athletes- like they're nothing?
If i was boston, id do a quick retool. Maybe involving a Marchand trade if he asks for too much on his next contract but probably just making some trades to get a little younger. Try to pickup a young C and train them up. Also 1,000,000% try to hire bergy as a assistant coach. Not just boston. Literally every team should be trying to recruit him.
Why would you want to trade away Brad marchand? He's been voted the most impactful player in the NHL? Why the hell would you want to play against him?
And why can't anyone see real numbers and stats-when Patrice Bergeron was out the first four games of the playoff series, Bruins won three out of four games with Brad marchand captain
When Patrice came back? Bruins lost two out of three games!
We have no beef-otherwise they wouldn't be going after Bergeron with those cheap shots destroying what little health he had left.
Bring in Milan lucic!
Trade Brad marchand? For what? We've got one hell of a core locked in both defensively and offense.
Pavel zacha brought in 57 points last season, six foot four center just entering the prime of his career?
We have two Norris level defenseman locked in with McAvoy and Lindholm. Top goalie tandem in the league, and when Jeremy swayman starts playing real teams then he can give Linus a break
Bertuzzi orlov and Hathaway were 10-week rentals, and you can't assess those players based on 10 weeks coming from lower teams.
Bertuzzi came from Detroit Red wings, ranked where in the standings??
He played with one of the NHL's top scorers for God's sake... There was only one way for his stats to go! Up!
You and I would have a great plus/minus rating s just being on ice with David pastrnak!
And Bruin fans didn't even question his injury history or the fact that he's not a two-way player.
Something's up with Taylor Hall, that's the only core roster player we've traded. But he's on his sixth team in a 13-year career coming in as a Hart trophy winner... Something's wrong there.
Why doesn't any team lock in this Hart trophy winner?
He's not a shoot first mentality player-we can't get him to shoot!
Do everything he does is great, but the boy won't score!
We have our core.
And disrespecting the rest of this awesome team has gotten ridiculous. They were doing better in the playoffs when Patrice Bergeron was absent
The biggest problem is not having any beef. Everyone keeps talking about hockey getting faster, more skilled, less fights... Yeah I don't care to see the blood but it's part of the game.
Otherwise, it's regular season broomball! Not hockey!
Milan Lucic will show Freddy how to do a reversal, the next time Trent finds himself in a chokehold with his back to the ice. Which never would have happened to begin with if we had an enforcer on the team
Chances are, Bergeron would not have been taken all these cheap shots the last two seasons and he might be able to eke out a 20th season. But it didn't happen-we tried playing this fake gentleman's game... And it got us nowhere
Bring in lucic & 6'4" two-hundred-pound center Pavel zacha, bring in the beef!
We don't need a 5 ft 9 inch little rat trying to play enforcer, sitting in the sin-bin instead of in scoring position. That's held him back the past two years besides his hip surgery.
Bring in somebody like Chara or Nick Ritchie to protect our players and then let's see what we've got.
Enough of this criticizing these veterans for being too old-their hockey vision wins cups
Whether it's through their own efforts while they're on ice, or training they pass on to rookies while they're player-coaches
Trade Brad marchand?
You want to play against him?
That's craziness
@@TheFoolintherainn bro, no one is reading all that. Organize your thoughts, then post.
By the way, Brad marchand was seen wearing the captain's "C" on his jersey at practice last week.
A Boston sports reporter got a photo and obviously the letter on his jersey was not "A" but "C". I saw it and waited for the announcement that finally came 4-5 days later
I don't think it's a coincidence that Patrice Bergeron announced his retirement a day or two after that photo was released and they did not denounce it as fake
It showed up on a legitimate reporter's Twitter feed
He's your new captain now
You'll have to live with
@@TheFoolintherainn thanks
came just 1 win short of 2 cups with game 7 2019 damn if only the bruins won game 7 in 2019 rather than st louis so the cup couldve been won on home ice in contrast to 2011 being away and so it can be 2 cups but whatever one cup is better than none. But yah, Patrice meant the world to me. Unbelieveable to see him call it quits esp with Lucic returning although retirement I def saw coming. A generational talent i mean, cup runs, selke trophies, mark messier award, olympic golds, the perferction line from 2016-2023 being the sickest line ever, etc just so much damn fun! Ofc those injuries from the 2013 final and that punctured lung I mean he isn't like most ppl and in fall of 2021 forcing everyone on the team to watch the Kyle Beach interview with rick westhead despite the blackhawks scandal having nothing to do with the bruins just a class act and true leader always putting his superiors before himself!
As you said "the eye test" he was even better. I hate the Bruins but I'll miss him. Also I don't think Krejci stays around. Best Bergeron memory was when he played with Sid in the World Cup.
I figured we'd have a better shot at Bergeron coming back, but now I think #46 might just hang out after all.
He's showing up in the Bruins team tribute video to Patrice, right before Brad marchand speaks at the end. So he's in Boston.
I'm thinking krejci may end up staying with Bergeron gone, he loves playing with Milan Lucic.
Those two will be the closest connection on the team if Krejci comes back. They'll show these boyz how it's done.
I am curious as to why krejci is showing up in Boston on that video... Fingers crossed.
With all due respect to Patrice, krejci's actually my favorite player.
I was wearing my # 46 shirt during Canes playoffs, trying to channel Krejci to slow that game the hell down!
I would love to see Milan and David back on ice. Talk about blind passing?
It's a long shot, yet Krejci has always been unpredictable, sarcastic and plays mind games.
Why he's such a great hockey player... But it's annoying in the real world!
@@TheFoolintherainn you may be right about that. Although don't expect Lucic to be the guy he was when he was there before he hasn't been that guy since he got to Edmonton. Still a good teammate & good leader but he won't produce like he did before he left.
What a horrible way to end a career. Record setting season, then the bruins completed the biggest choke job in NHL history. 3-1 series lead, multiple leads blown in game 6, and blew a 3-2 lead in game 7 with a minute left in the third period. This is the team's fault, so many flawed decisions. How could they do this to Bergeron, they knew very well this may have been his last season, and they squashed it like that. The bruins can still be a great playoff team, but this season may have been their last chance at a cup for a while.
I bet they looked past Florida in the first round, even though they said they didnt! Florida backed into the playoffs thanks to Pittsburgh sputtering out. Florida found another gear, and rode that gear into the Stanley Cup!
@@inconnu4961 true
First Tom Brady and now Bergie... Boston will have a tough time to recover
Big Pappi was iconic in Boston too! it was very sad to see him retire, but he is in a bunch of commercials, and visits Boston often, so it doesnt feel like he is totally gone!
He stood good because he was a clean player and always had an enforcers watching him
That's right, he's always had enforcers watching him except for the last two seasons since Ritchie left... And look at the cheap shots he's taken
But yes, when you have a lot of bad cops on your team, you can afford to be a good cop.
Can't wait for Looooooch!
Devastating? Yeah, loosing Bergy is sad, but we all thought it was going to happen. After his last back injury, it was pretty inevitable. Cam will look around to see what we need and do their best to get it. It's never about the stars with the Bruins. It's about the team. So, it will be okay.
Zacha it's just entering the prime of his career, 6 ft 4 200 lb center, he got 57 points last season... He speaks David pastrnaks language. I feel bad his following Patrice Bergeron, but I think this guy's going to be a star
If Patrice Bergeron we're not on the Bruins, he would already be considered a star! But we've got him locked in the prime of his career, and he's exploding... Don't underestimate him.
And Charlie coyle steps up when the stars are not playing. He's a solid guy, he's good for clutch goals.
I'm really shocked
It is a rare thing for any sports player to stay a whole career with the same team.
Great career!!!!! Not a Boston fan at all... But Bergeron HOF here it comes
If the NHL had a captain he would have been it
The fact they had chara as captain over Bergeron baffles me
Absolutely f´n hate the Bruins. but HUGE respetct for #37
Not a Bruins fan, but I could get behind renaming the Selke.
The Bruins had their shot last season. They blew it. I doubt they'll even be able to claw themselves into the playoffs this year.
1970- 71 new coach Tom Johnson came into the Bruins, set a franchise record for most winning regular season, the record they beat this year.
No cup.
Humiliated, big chip on their shoulders, big bad Bruins came out to play and won themselves a big bad 1972 cup!
Learn some hockey history.
Brad Marchand was already on it.

The ultimate bruins bergy
Time for a rebuild. Let's start with Lucic!
Rebuild? We've got a 6 ft 4 in 26 year-old 200 lb Pavel zacha who pulled in 57 points last season, ready and able to take that center position helm.
Bruins got the NHL and franchise-records without bertuzzi orlov and Hathaway there most of the time
they were 10-week rentals to keep the core together.
And they came from much lower teams, so there was only one way for their stats to go.. especially bertuzzi coming from Detroit Red wings playing right next to one of the top scorers in the NHL... You and I would have a good plus-minus rating being on ice with pastrnak!
Tyler is not a two-way player. He defected to Toronto, that's all I need to know
Hall is the only core roster player we've traded-and this would be his 6th team in his 13-year hockey career? for a Hart trophy winner?
Why hasn't any team locking him in? He had a chance to play with mcjesus on oilers, why did oilers let him go?
Maybe it's because he does not have a shoot-first mentality as we saw all season long. So he'll be the Scottie pippen to Bedard
Milan Lucic is exactly the beef we need, and he's coming back to home ice so you cannot predict how he's going to play.
This is his home ice and you should know what that means.
The way the system works, is we bringing seasoned veterans as player-coach has-put them in positions where the prospects have to knock them out and take their place.
I've been watching this game since original six before Bobby Orr -I haven't seen Patrice Bergeron take cheap shots like that since Nick Ritchie left.
We're all polite playing a gentleman's game getting our asses kicked because we have no beef.
Do you think Freddie would have ended up in a chokehold with his back to the ice under Matthew Tkachuck if Milan Lucic was even sitting on the bench? I think not!
All the cheap shot high sticks Patrice has taken the last season in particular?
They wouldn't dare with milan around
You don't remember David pastrnak on his knees getting tossed around like a rag doll desperately trying to get the puck to Jake debrusk during the Canes series?
Were you one of those Nik Ritchie haters that suddenly wanted him back?
This game is never going to be polite broomball... You're never going to change it.
The enforcers job is not only to separate a player from the puck, but to separate opponents from your scorers. We got a 5 ft 9 inch little rat trying to play enforcer sitting in the sin-bin instead of in scoring position?
Now let's take a look at some real stats. The first four games of the Florida Panthers series Patrice Bergeron was out injured. The Bruins won three out of four games under Brad marchand s captaincy
Patrice Bergeron came back game 5.
We proceeded to lose two out of the three next games!
Besides Vegas, Bruins were the only team to take Panthers to 7 games.
Hullo?!
it's ok everyone, they signed... Lucic again ::eyeroll::
What's wrong with Milan Lucic? He got a lot of offers from teams around the NHL... That should tell you something. Or are you a GM?
if you knew hockey, you know darn well he's going back to home ice. With the best trainers, rehabs, nutritionists in the world.
And I'm doubting that Patrice Bergeron would have taken four cheap shot high sticks in the face this past season with lucic around.
And I know Matthew tkahuck wouldn't be clobbering on our goalie's head
Nor would he dare put Trent Frederic in a chokehold with his back to the ice if Milan Lucic was even sitting on the bench
I've noticed the last two years, since Bruins have not had an enforcer, no Chara, Nick Ritchie... That Patrice Bergeron has been taking a phenomenal amount of cheap shots
The hurricanes first-round series, they were tossing pasta around like a rag doll as he was flattened out on his knees trying to pass the puck to Jake debrusk
The first four games of the Panthers series, Brad Marchand Captained a gritty team to three out of four wins
Patrice Bergeron came out of injury starting game 5, we returned to the gentleman's game, the players were not allowed to respond to Matthew Tkachuck antics, so he just kept at it.
There was no response, no grit. Under that system we lost two out of three games
No way in hell would Tkachuck have taken those liberties with lucic even sitting on the bench.
He will show Trent Frederic how to do a reversal the next time he finds himself in a chokehold with his back to the ice
The regular-season gentleman's game doesn't fly in the playoffs. Were you watching?
The guys coming back to homies, you have no idea where his level of play will be.
And if you knew the circumstances under which he left? The tragic death of his father?
Getting driven out of his hometown of Vancouver because he was a Boston Bruins that beat them in the Stanley Cup playoffs? Losing his home because of that?
Then you might understand how happy he's going to be coming back to Boston and how that's going to be reflected in his play.
He and David krejci were the point leaders in the 2011 cup season. Outstanding blind passes between the two of them
He hasn't lost his hockey vision and no one is asking him to play on the top lines.
Would you dare say any of this or roll your eyeballs in front of Milan Lucic?
As an original sixer, back in the day if you wanted to insult a player, you bought a ticket, showed up, and told them to their faces
if you spit on Gerry cheevers, he might just spit back!
If you pissed off Mike milbury? He might take your shoe off and beat ya with it!
These internet trolls that don't even know how to lace up skates.
Now THAT would be an occasion to use an eyeball roll
🙄
Respect.
guess you don’t know of nico hischier
Are Bruins a playoff team? Yes
Are they a contender team? Not anymore
They won three out of four games against Florida when Patrice Bergeron was out. When he came back? They lost two out of three games
I find these comments extremely disrespectful to the other elite athletes on this team. That's a big slap in the face to Charlie McAvoy, Lindholm, Brando, our goalie tandem, Pavel zacha are 6ft 4in 57 points center, and especially Brad marchand and David pastrnak. You're telling those players they are garbage
Why don't you try telling this to their faces?
How disrespectful can you be to elite athletes? Patrice Bergeron barely got that selkie award, he did earn it... But if you've been watching his career, last season did not go well for him
But it did go well for the rest of the team!
Orlov, bertuzzi & Hathaway came in for only 10 weeks-the rest of the team set that franchise & NHL record
And if you knew some Boston Bruins history? You might know this has happened before
-new coach Tom Johnson came in 1970-71 and set Bruins franchise record for most winning season. Their franchise-record we broke this year... He didn't get a cup
Humiliated big bad Bruins came back next season to win the 72 Stanley cup!
When we win over 50 games, it doesn't usually go well in the playoffs. So start cursing them out when they head toward 45 wins
Can you even bend over to lace up skates? Do you know how to lace up?
Back in my original six day, you wanted to insult players like this? You bought a ticket showed up to the game and told them to their faces
And if you spit it Gerry cheevers? He might just spit back!
Mike milbury might jump over the boards, take off your shoe and beat you with it!
@@TheFoolintherainn Woah there, chill out, I'm not trying to insult anybody. I'm just stating how much of an impact Bergeron was to this team. The other guys are good but they are not enough. Are you watching the other teams? Do you know how competitive they are? Losing a core piece like Bergeron while other teams get better is not an ideal situation. Sure, they can still play without him and still be great for a couple of games but in the long run, his absent is gonna be felt heavily That's why, in my mind they a dropping to an simple playoff team.
By the way, I played hockey for almost 20 years now. I may not be "elite" athlete material but I know how this sport is played and how competitive it can be. You should not judge someone so severely based on one comment.

What a great career. As a #stlblues fan.... YAAAAY. Sorry. Too soon?
That's okay-we're going to take Tori krug back when his contract gets down there.
But one thing even Bruins players haven't noticed-the first four games against the Panthers first round, Patrice Bergeron was out injured. Bruins won three out of those four games under Brad marchand captaincy
When Bergeron came back starting game 5? The Bruins lost two out of three games
So don't be too happy!
We still have our lil ratt who is now captain
I want that rubber game-I remember the Bobby Orr flying goal on Mother's Day... And the heartbreak of 2019
