  • This week on Buckle Up Harry drives the Toyota Yaris Cross, one of the UK's best selling cars. The Yaris Cross is a formidable platform with good technology, strong pricing and a new more powerful - but still super efficient - 130 horsepower drivetrain. But how efficient is it? To find out Harry will attempt to get the highest MPG possible (and get very sweaty in the process)
    Up against cars such as the Jeep Aveneger, Hyundai Bayon, Nissan Juke, MG ZS, Skoda Kamiq, Seat Arona, Volkswagen T-Cross, Dacia Duster, Honda HRV, Kia Stonic, Renault Captur, Ford Puma, Peugeot 2008, Vauxhall Mokka, Citroen C3 Aircross, Fiat 500 x, Audi Q2, Mini Countryman and the Suzuki Vitara can this small yellow bundle of joy stand out?

    Harry driving in an efficiency challenge is very different to Harry driving at literally any other time 🤣🤣

    Great to see a review team of different shapes and sizes. Really insightful for real world life!

    I have the 2023 model got it new great 4 person car
    Just few things missing like
    No air vent at the back
    No lights at the back
    No USB at the back
    Leg room a bit tight
    Not much storage compared to old cars
    There is a Asian version i think which addresses some of the issues which i have mentioned
    Over all a great car for high mpg

    Now, after nearly 40 Hours of educating myself in the topic of modern cars and what is available right now, i need to buy a new car. This is the first time i ever look into this. After checking out nearly every other manufacturer, i think this is the best choice in that price range given its 15 years of warranty, its efficiency and its features. Especially after the facelift with the "new" motor.

      Where do you live that it gets a fifteen year warranty?

    I have the 2024 and i love it. Its a nice little car to drive. And the steering is sooo smooth.

    Good review. I ordered mine in the Netherlands, I am Dutch. The mpg challenge was fun, yet, gives a bit of a one-sided view now. Noise reduction should also be tested when you accelerate more fiercely.
    Glad you are positive. The 12V battery should also be better, overcoming starting problems in 2021 version.

      I did the economy test in a GR sport spec car, I also drove the red design car that I used for the walk around section and floored that, it's audible but not intrusive

      @BuckleUpShow no it should be better, my neighbour sold his 2021 version and has the 130 hp now, he notices the difference in norse. I find all the safely technology reassuring too. Thanks again.

    Are there different versions of the car for the European and Asian market? I see many reviews with a different front mask.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 5 dny +2

      There are two cars sold internationally with the Yaris Cross name, this one and one for lower cost markets such as south east Asia and south America

    That efficiency is crazy! The obvious choice if you’re an economy focussed buyer.

      Shame the tank is so small and you can't just drive for a 1000 miles without refills

  • @stevelitchfield

    I feel like you’ve answered this in other videos but how tall are you? That driving position is quite far back, compared to the YC24 I sat in yesterday at a dealer…

      180 cm or 5'11", whichever takes your fancy

    I just bought the 2024 version of Yaris Cross 116 hp version.
    In my opinion, the extra 14hp version is a big waste of money. 14 hp is like 0,5 sec differences which is not noticabe at all.
    The "Noise" which everyone is talking about is just wierd. I have extremely sharp ears and those "Noise" doesnt bother me at all.
    You know, back in the days when you drive manual cars, you were supposed to listen to the engine when shifting gears?
    People really really got spoiled, seriously. What a tiny details to complain on.
    In general, the yaris cross is probably the most bang for the bucks you can get and Im super happy about it!

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 8 dny

      It's the change in torque and response that makes the difference, it's also probably the same margin of difference between a 1.6 and a 1.8 20 years ago, which would have incurred a similar difference in price but also been more to run, whereas now you can have a bit more power with no running cost downsides

    Dead jealous. My 2 litre Corolla (not plug in but full hybrid) is only managing an average of 65mpg/41% electric only this month (!!) - with a Somerset to Scotland road trip thrown in. Mind you, on some Scottish legs I did manage over 90 mpg. Toyota really have nailed the efficiency without the dire drawbacks of electric only vehicles.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 11 dny +1

      I was doing very careful driving, and 65 in regular driving is still really good

  • @stevelitchfield
    @stevelitchfield Před 11 dny

    Eh? There is a 2021 car (in the driving sections) from the number plate. I’m confused… ??

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 11 dny

      It's manufacturer provided footage, since there aren't any significant exterior updates they haven't updated it yet, and even if they do since it's only a facelift it likely wouldn't be a UK plated car

    Are you basing the 10 year warranty on the Toyota relax warranty program?

  • @wallywal6139
    @wallywal6139 Před 8 dny +1

    Had this on my shortlist but the back seat is just too small for an adult. Other than that it's a super vehicle. Leaning towards the Honda Jazz Crosstar myself.

    I do feel you should also emphasise that you were driving the top of the range model at £30k+

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 11 dny

      It was a GR sport that I drove (design in the walk around) that starts from around £31k, still handily less than a top spec T-Cross where you still have to pay extra for heated seats and sat nav

    Good review shame about the Grey car 2021 model with a women driving it, New model looks different it has HEV instead of Hybrid at the back. Would have nice being to see video footage of the car you where driving.

      @BuckleUpShow  Před 8 dny

      Unfortunately there wasn’t any footage of this exact car to use from Toyota, and as I filmed this by myself, I’m sure how I could have got any.
