- With EPCOT Center turning 35 years old yesterday we wanted to share with you a project we completed recently but decided to hold off until now for release. We were able to convert and restore the 1983 film "A Visit to EPCOT Center". What makes this special is this restoration was completed from a 16mm print of the film, later it was released on home movie and the quality was sub-par to say the least.
The audio is a big "crackly" but we think it gives a more vintage "movie" feel to the production. This is a decent size promotional film running just short of 20 minutes. The footage of a park that has changed in many ways is amazing, along with some rare construction footage...and you may see some things that haven't changed in 35 years!
Went there in '89. Good times.
This is one of the most 1983 videos ever
This is one of those films your teacher in middle school would but on during a friday on your last class and you fall asleep to on your desk that are extremely comfortable
Well said.
I’m at Epcot right now waiting in Test track. Unbelievable how 85% of this park looks completely different
Thanks for the video
It would be 100% different If Walt Disney Worlds move to North Carolina, but lets see if they could hold the ground until Ron DeSantis leaves office as Govenor.
@@Perich29lmfao you think WDW could move?
Epcot Center opening cast member here - (World Key Information System), then Guest Relations, etc. Every memory in this is so special.
80's kid right here, and yeah, the 80's Epcot Center was really something special! Thanks for sharing for memories!
Here we go! It’s the universe of energy ;).
What a great video. Being born in 74 I was at a perfect age to go there growing up. I can't wait to go again.
Had this on VHS. Played it all the time as a kid.
I've known this forever as the home video "Epcot Center: A Souvenir Program," which was almost all video footage, so finding out that it was apparently released first on *film* is wild
I like the crackling sound. It adds to the authenticity and reminds me of movies and films I used to watch when I was younger. This is a really neat look of Epcot when it was still fairly new. I would love to take a time machine back to the mid 80s to see it again.
Huey Lewis: So take me away, I don't mind but you better promise me, I'll be back in time
I disagree. I'd much rather see it as it was intended. The crackling seems fake to me.
I remember growing up seeing all this and being hopeful about the future. And here we are in 2023 and we should have this and more. We should be far more advanced....but we aren't..
Classic Disney is about giving once in a life time rich people experiences to the average person.
I went to Epcot as a young kid right after it opened (1982-83). The world showcase area had not opened yet.
There must not have been too much to see at that point, right? I mean the countries are a large part of Epcot. I can't imagine Epcot without the world showcase sections.
That was the year we visited! it was an incredible experience!
I enjoy Epcot these days but there was nothing like it back in the 80s and 90s. Riding Horizons for the first time and going thru sea base Alpha as well as the other timeless classics.
Also, in the 90s if I’m remembering it correctly, Innovations with sega, Nintendo, as well as all the things to play around with. Such a wonderful and magical place back then.
I’ll never understand why they took out innovative rides like Horizons and the original Imagination. If they wanted to change Epcot that badly they should have added new lands. I think Disney is missing out by not turning Epcot into some kind of retro park. They’d make a killing if they did
My favorite part of this video is the beautiful sunset at the end and Epcot being lit up at night! 🥲💖
😍
Epcot holds a special place in my heart. Was 8 when we first visited.
Thank you!
Wonderful video. I started going to Disney in 1977 with my parents, and remember when Epcot first opened, and it was awesome!
I went to WDW a year after this was made. Even as 4 yearold. I still remember this place.
I visited in 1994 during one it's first major changes since it's opening, much of the original layout still existed at that time and it was quite fun to walk through the whole area. It's a completely different experience now then it was back in 1994 and certainly back in 1983.
I don't brag about much, but I do brag that I got to ride Horizons and see Epcot in the early 90's. Ecpot will never be that great again.
I remembered my first time. visiting WDW. In 1992. Epcot was my favorite park. I sure miss the good old days .
It was nice back then. People dressed nice, and there were no fat people on scooters. I was there over 10 years ago, and the crowd was a little iffy. I'd imagine, by now, the level of element that frequents the place is off the charts, today.
Wow, can’t believe I missed you posting this last year! Thank you for showing how unique. wonderful, and RELAXING Epcot used to be when it was first made!
Wow, I haven't seen this video in what feels like forever. This plus a day at epcot use to be in heavy rotation in my VHS player when I was a kid. Thanks for the memory trip!
Wow, I didn’t remember when there were individual boat narrators in The Land.
We were at Epcot and WDW in 1983. Been married for 3 years then, now celebrating our 43rd anniversary. What a grand time.
I was there in December of 1988 and I remeber their Monorail trains had doors that swings open just like the doors on Sedans and SUV before they got the bigger verson with powered sliding doors and touch screen system.
That's the year of my first trip as a kid.
Love it. First year we went.
Current Epcot "inspires" me to buy popcorn buckets, drink around the world and of course...pay for Genie+!
This is incredible....WOW thanks for posting.
We were at EPCOT in 1983 on our honeymoon. Japanese restaurant was amazing. Took our kids in 2001, it sucked.
And now it's a destination where people go to drink around the world, just as the designers intended.
The kind of seriousness that was put into the original EPCOT (not to forget its templates, the then-relatively recent future-themed World Fairs of Brussels, Seattle, New York City, Montreal and Japan) is a thing of the past. Disney of the 90’s and 2000’s wouldn’t, couldn’t even conceive of such a thing. EPCOT was rather bombed upon its debut, but at least it pointed in all the right directions, and was developed in a much more mature age (generally speaking) than what we have now
This is the epcot that I remember visiting when i was just a kid and it was awesome
Love this channel. Thx for sharing
Loving these movies! Keep up the great work
6:27 Predicted the Prius back in 1983!
The new technology connections showed me this existed
Also, just wanted to add some clarification on when Epcot turned 35. The description above states "With EPCOT Center turning 35 years old yesterday...". I noticed that the publish date of this video is 3/13/18. That would leave some to assume that Epcot opened on 3/12/1983. However, Epcot actually opened on 10/1/1982.
Before WDW dumbed down Epcot to the lowest common denominator
Love this !!
In 19:18, this footage is same of “Rare EPCOT Center B-Roll Video - Japan - Part 6 of 11” (!?) 😂
Pre- pin trading, pre-churro times. Era of same day ps (dining reservations). Let’s use the kiosks!
I remember that you could use the video phone to make same day dining reservations!
Was this part of a press kit / promotional campaign?
LAVA!
We were there that same year.
Now Epcot is another theme park they can milk movie properties to death with, while selling you rainbow mouse ears... as if they care about anything other then money.
Wait...they had touch sensitive screen technology all the way back in 1983???
I was born in 83
My favorite part is not seeing stupid cell phones
Anybody know who narrated this? Sounds like Burgess Meredith, but doubt it.
Sounds younger than Burgess would have been. He was the Penguin. I can see his cigarette holder now. This guy’s voice is almost soporific, but in a nicely lulling way.
“Here at Epcot Center you’re gonna eat lightning and crap thunder! Why? Because there’s time now. Wagh wagh wagh(that’s supposed to be the Penguin sound)”
where are all the color people at?
1983 - we got 2023 now. Do they upgrade and update the area constantly? Or is it closed?
At least horizons and imagination are coming back soon...
Horizons is coming back? That ride that smelled like citrus or oranges when you first enter the building?
0:38 A GHOST
jk lol
🎵Imagination imagination imagination 🎵
Kelly Weingart ;-;
German buffet was great but the Chinese food there was disgusting.
lol 6:23 "A walk through area called Trans Center" has a WHOLE new meaning in todays Epcot..... I'm honestly shocked they haven't turned Spaceship earth into a rainbow disco ball to celebrate the diversity of the alphabet people.
The narrator said “Walt Disney’s greatest dream” that is a false statement by far. This EPCOT is nothing what Walt imagined it to be
Do you like hot-fudge sundays?
Spoiler Alert OIL is not created by DINOS.. LOL
This was before the woke mind virus destroyed Disney.
Good times before Disney went woke.
That’s right, Disney is awake and alert.
