I stopped colouring a dozen or so years ago at mid 50s. The surprise has been a very nice natural colour and smooth, shiny texture. I still get lots of compliments, which I never received when colouring. It still surprises me.

I stopped 6 months ago. I have been suffering from migraine headaches for 27 years .. yes I said it 27 years!. Well towards the end of September I bleached my hair oh boy the migraine was so bad I had to go to the emergency room. Little did I know I have been allergic to the chemicals all those yrs. My migraine is gone . No more headaches. And I am starting to love my natural hair color. . I am also 47 yrs old. 27 yrs suffering and taking prescription medication for migraine that I actually never need if I would have known it was the chemicals from the bleach.

"Demarcation Line". And I just lost it. Last night I stood in my driveway while my husband cut off 10 inches of 20 months of color grow out. Living in a ponytail the entire time. The relief almost brought me to tears. Even more so when my dear hubby said WOW, that looks so much better. Any you are right on the money about your complexion! Sometimes the best of personal growth is owing our age! Grey and all.

That’s why I shaved all my hair off. I knew that if I had to live with that line, I would give in and have it dyed again.
Weirdly, I actually look younger with my granny hair. Embrace the natural silver tinsel.

I’m growing my grey out at 44 because of brave women like yourself. I think it looks stunning. I went grey in my early 30’s and I wasn’t going to dye it but I buckled to the pressure from others. Anyway, last year I had an undercut both sides, as it was where most of my grey was. I knew I couldn’t handle the grey line coming out, with brown dye. I’ve nearly dyed it a couple of times, but each time I resisted. I then had it cut asymmetrically to get rid of as much dye as possible. I’m now at an amazing stage where I am loving it so much!!!! Thank you for putting yourself out there. You are an inspiration! 💕

My hair is silver and it's naturally curly. I see a hairdresser once a month to trim them and keep the natural curl from getting crazy. The other women in the shop will ask her what she does to my hair to make it silver and curl "like that". She tells her customers that it's all natural. Some believe it; some don't. I don't care.

Renee, you are a gem!! I first saw you from your heartwarming vis about adopting sweet Pollux (made me think of Castor and Pollux, Of Greek and Roman mythology). Your kindness and gentleness came shining through, and I Loved your beautiful hair, so was thrilled to see this vid! I coloured (Canadian spelling!) my hair for years when I was working, What a royal pain. Always said that I would stop when I retired. Well, life intervened, and I got boob cancer, then of course was Mr Clean with the chemo. When it started to grow back, it came in salt and pepper, and I thought “I can live with this”. And you articulated all of the positive changes I have come to feel. I retired early at 59 (you reset your priorities after cancer) and am so happy in my own skin now, and my grey hair is part of that!
Thank you for being such a shining light of positivity, especially during these weird Covid times! Bless you and your family and the pups! ❤️from 🇨🇦! Diane

I stopped coloring my hair five years ago because I did not like the growth of gray with the color. I still have some natural brown with the gray. Looks "salt and pepper". I am 64. My daughters like my natural gray and brown. I live in Louisiana (Baton Rouge area). Enjoy your channel. You can go to my facebook (Deborah Price) and see my recent picture with my two daughters. I am at month 10 on growing out my grey. I had a false start at the very beginning of COVID and chickened out. My last color was applied Nov 2020 and i am not going back. I had been coloring my hair for at least 30 years. The funny thing is that I was coloring it 30 years ago to cover grey! At 30 years old my hair was almost all a dark grey! My maternal family grayed very early in life. I never knew my Grandfather without white hair. Never had I seen him when his hair was dark. The same with aunts and uncles.
I knew when I stopped the color my hair was not just going to be gray, it was likely going to be white. And it is! That has been my biggest shock! The brown color has faded into a mocha color on the bottom and blends in with the white color. So many people have stopped me and told me how they love my hair!! Like you, these are complete strangers!
I found your channel right before I decided to go for it. Your insight and sharing really did help me to decide to move on with it. I have to admit thought that if I just catch a glimpse in the mirror I wonder who that person is staring back at me.

Great video, Renee! The number one thing for me when I stopped having my hair dyed AND highlighted was just how dark my natural color was. I had completely forgotten about the dark brown my hair I was born with. I loved the cost savings of ditching the dye. I'm like you, I hated the dark staining on my forehead and the itchy scalp. I stopped dyeing after I left Corporate America in 2012 and have never looked back. Honestly, I wish I had more grey...I think it's so beautiful. I try to compliment people I see (whether men or women) on the beautiful grey crown of hair that only God can give us! He knows what he's doing! Keep up the inspiring videos!

Stumbled Across this video today. I stopped coloring my hair at age 46. I was just tired of the cost of it, the time it took and the constant upkeep of it. I had silvers popping thru the dye within 2-3 weeks of getting it colored. I had a few negative comments mostly from relatives in the beginning. Honestly I think it was their own fear of aging that sparked their comments. I had the full support of my husband and kids, in fact they are the ones who helped convince me to just grow out the hair dye. It helped that I had gradually started going lighter with my hair dye over the years so that the transition wasn’t too harsh. I had a lot of hair cuts, trims and layers added, which made the grow out process quicker for me. I believe it took me 16 months to fully transition.I get a lot of compliments now, and it’s continuing to change as years go on.I am 52 now and in most photos my hair appears blonde, but in some photos it’s Silver and very light brown. I was a medium brown naturally most of my life. I love it and wouldn’t go back to hair dye for anything. Thanks to Covid-19, the closing of beauty shops for months and CZcams tutorials I have learned to cut my own hair. I am saving so much time and money.

Society is finally beginning to accept women as the wonderfully sexy, fabulous silver foxes that we are. And men ( real men!) appreciate older women for their experience in every (yes, every) area of life over young giggly girls who are just that --with whom a real conversation is never going to happen once the attempt to recapture their youth wears off. And that is frank, for real talk, honey! Love your hair and love you for adopting Pollux !

Renee, I resonate with you regarding the straw like hair. I absolutely hated it but felt I had no way out. But then, my scalp reacted to henna and indigo and became so tender. I would literally cry if a comb touched my scalp. I went grey cold turkey and faced so much horrible comments, especially from my hairdresser. He told me that I was ruining his reputation by going grey - that he was in the beauty industry and I did not look beautiful. The first 6 months were so hard for me but I stuck it out. Its my hair and I will not be told that I need to do my hair in a certain way to fit into many people's screwed up view of what they term beautiful. I thank GOD for every strand of grey hair - its mine!! You are the inspiration to many. Thank you

When I colored my hair I would lose a lot of hair; black hair all over the sink. My husband would have to clear the drain pipes every so often and pull out the blob of hair. I haven’t colored my hair for two years and the drain hasn’t clogged up once; I lose a lot less hair, probably 80% less.

I am sooooooo with you!!! My mother had the prettiest white/ silver hair....I kept saying “if mine would be that colour I would let my hair go in a heartbeat”. Well, my mom died three years ago and unfortunately I was still coloring and straightening my hair. A few months later...I had missed a couple of hair appointments and figured....well, I have a good grow out going....I’ll do it!!! I really hated the time and expense of coloring my hair and knew, as we age, we loose color in our skin and even though I had gone lighter on my hair color....something was still wrong! I felt like a skunk for about 5 months... but it has been so worth it!!! I now (after years of straightening) have my natural waves and curls back, my hair is in wonderful condition and a really pretty white/silver color!!! Plus, that money I was spending getting my hair done....I can now spend on something more fun!! 😊. I too have received lovely comments from strangers on my color and curls and surprised comments from friends and family on how it makes me look younger!!! I wish I had done it sooner!! By the way.....I LOVE YOUR CURLS AND COLOR....BEAUTIFUL!

Besides everything you stated, I also realized when I stopped coloring my hair, my rosacea didn’t flare as often! Genetically, I have been blessed with good skin but the increasing skin sensitivity and rosacea was an issue. After I stopped coloring, I funneled that $$$ I spent on my colorist and began seeing an esthetician once a month and what a difference to my skin and rosacea! And, I am bolder with my make up also and my clothes and realizing I lean towards a boho style that I tended to ignore and dressed more classically (still do but throw in more color now), but now, it’s like I have the freedom to choose whatever I want to wear that I like and not what society made me feel I had to wear. I am almost 58 and being a silver vixen has freed me to be me!

People always asked during those years why I didn't color and I would always tell them because it wasn't me this is me. I also always felt that it wouldn't match my skin because like you I noticed my skin getting lighter as my hair went whiter. I didn't get many compliments over those years rather people would say things like you are a pretty women but you would be prettier if you colored your hair I also got that about makeup also. I never cared this was and is me and it is where I am comfortable I just wish more women could feel more comfortable in their own beautiful natural selfs. I noticed that I have new hair growths resulting in thicker fuller hair, and some new body curves emerged. May be as you said, healthier scalp and hair without the dye. • @renepena3024
      @renepena3024 Před 4 lety +1

NORML it is NOT true. Perhaps it is not complimentary for the complexion of your particular friend. I belong to a “Going Gray” FB group and, for the vast majority of women, the gray makes us look better (not older or younger, better), especially as we age. The dark color of our dyed hair is usually too harsh for our complexion, but it’s only apparent when we compare before & after pics. It is the same as any other hair color, sometimes it isn’t the right fit. It applies to the young women in the group as well. I look back to a time when I had a lot of caramel highlights in my hair (I was young) I loved them at the time, but when I compare them to my natural dark brown, the caramel was not flattering AT ALL! So, we can’t conclude that caramel highlights are bad for everyone, or even most. They were just not good for me.

I just started watching your channel about you and your beautiful family including your beautiful dogs. I immediately noticed your hair and commented to my husband about it. You are gorgeous with those beautiful curls and grey hair! It reminds me about me years and years ago. I remember working at this Sylvania Electric Plant and actually retired from there. I had always dyed my hair back then with a dark golden brown. I, like you, was getting very tired of dying and keeping up with it but I didn't want grey hair so I kept it up anyway. This lady who started working with us had beautiful grey hair and I don't know how many times I had commented on it to her and others about how beautiful it was on her. One day she came in and all of that had changed... She had dyed her hair a dark brown and I was in shock when I saw it and many others were too. Not natural looking at all. This is when I realized I was going to stop dying my hair!. I did not expect my friends to be after me to dye my hair again. (period of adjustment!) One friend asked me, "Why are you letting that grey hair take over??" I explained to her that I wanted to see the real me!! After so many negative comments, I was close to reversing my decision and dying it again but I didn't! I let it grow out and became a mostly salt and pepper grey and was happy that I did it. My hair was healthy again finally and I didn't miss the appointments and had more money in my pockets...lol People began to know me for who I really was and who I am now with my grey hair. No regrets! Thank you for your channel.. I so enjoy listening to you and your family..
