- In this week's guitar lesson, you'll learn which triads work on top of a major chord. You can play these to create colorful versions of the chord, for both rhythm and lead.

I can't believe how perfect your channel is man
Geez Brian, the way you inter-weav theory into practical playing applications is almost genius... Bravo!
You are my favourite guitar teacher
Your definitely the best teacher on the tube mate,,,learning loads from every video you put out, brilliant 👏
Brother Man you are very good at this. Ive been playing for about 17 years with a style very similar to your own, always amazes me how even on subjects that I'm very fluent with hearing it articulated by someone else always puts the lesson in a different light and is very constructive. Appreciate you Buddy
I can't remember who said to check out your channel, but it was some of the best advice the interwebs have ever laid on me. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain it so clearly
💡That Cmaj7/Em thing had never occurred to me. Thank you, Brian.
Great little jam in the end!
I love how chords overlap. Seeing, understanding and accessing that really expands the palette of possibilities. Thanks for helping with that.
You are one gifted teacher, very articulate. I have seen many tutorials here on CZcams but you are by far the best. You break everything down and explain it so well that it motivates me to play and practice even more.
Such a caring and skilled teacher. Thanks Brian!
Always Great lessons, good Saturday wake up...
Pro musician and composer for 15 years here. Best explanation I have ever seen.
Thanks Sean
Thanks Brian, love your lessons.
Thanks, Brian. 🎶❤️
You are fantastic! Suddenly a lot of the things I did for years on a try and error basis make sense. The way you explain complex things is so easy to understand! Thank you so much!!!!!
Bryan, I am not sure where your ideas come from for lessons, but this is an awesome lesson plan. I have learned so much from you and I am very grateful for that!
And yet another absolutely wonderful lesson in a string of virtual gems from one of my favorite channels! Thanks Brian! A lot of this reminded me of one of my very favorite acoustic guitar albums of all time. Where you can hear just how far you can take this knowledge/technique and create incredibly beautiful and sophisticated lines and phrases! Nuff said, I'd like to recommend this album to everybody! I'm talking about "Markology" from the one and only Mark O'Connor. I've been enjoying this album for over 40 yrs. now and it still knocks me out to this day!!! Pay particular attention to "Picking in the Wind" and "Fluid Drive".
I’ve been playing guitar on and off since 1971. Of course when I first started, I wanted to play nothing but rock. However, my guitar teacher, considered one of the best guitarists in NE Ohio at the time, taught basically jazz and country. When I was first learning, I would strum first position chords and chord changes and my teacher would play over top of me doing exactly what you show in your lesson. I always wondered how the heck he did what he did and how did he know how to do it. Then he would write out melodies for me to play using more sophisticated chords up and down the neck - barre chords, dig outs, 7th style chords, etc. but I had no idea how he came up with the stuff. Now I have the explanation! Thank you for this wonderful lesson!
Loves me some triads! thanks once again Brian! Wonderful lesson.
This channel definitely resonates with me. Love every episode and have been able to apply the concepts in a way that sticks. Very well presented.
Great lesson, every lesson takes you a new avenue to a larger musical knowledge and outlook
Your lessons are just incredible,I just can't get enough of it.
Thank you
We went to Nashville a few years ago, and saw Rachael Hester and her band play, and her guitar players make these sounds. Now I have a better idea of what they are doing. This is definitely an aha moment. Thank you.
Perfect timing with this...been messing with this exact concept last few days
thanks
Really like his lessons I knows exactly what he’s talking about , witch really helps me a lot
I feel this man deserves a million subscribers.
Brilliant! Well done and much appreciated!

Very useful, such nice triads, and smart chord shape link principles. Thank you.
Nice one Brian, looking forward to getting my guitar out tomorrow and trying this.

As a vocalist primarily, my guitar playing goals are not very high, so I don't try to learn it all, but I get an overview and then pick out what I need for my own purposes. I played a duo in a maskless Pub in Florida a couple weeks ago as an acoustic set. It was great. Full house.
Great lesson.
Awesome lesson ! Just payed for my 2nd year of premium membership and well worth the money!
Thanks Sir with a big big S ! This is so earnest and magical . This is the greatest teaching ever ! Simple but so damn good 😉

Than you, thank you thank you. Mental light bulbs switching on left, right and center. Very informative.
Nice breakdowns.
That’s a great concept, “what can you play over this one chord”, Brian! A very fun and digestible lesson -
and I like how you just snuck in a NEW to you (a dreadnaught!!!) MARTIN without a word 😆 It’s a nicely worn in beauty, congrats!🔥👍
shhh ;)
Breakthrough lesson 💪
Always impressed with your lessons Brian. I’ve tried others, but for some reason you get through me. Guess it’s time to officially sign up!
Also, I like your P90 Tele so much I just custom made my own G&L version :)
Thank you very much sir
May god bless you🤩🤩🤩
Best teacher
The piece at the end reminds me of the playing on Cassandra Wilson's New Moon Daughter album, cannot remember which track, but I must go back to listen to it. Thanks for the reminder.
Very nice 👍🏼
Great channel
Very cool lesson. I was waiting for the sus4 to come out :-D
This sold me. I’ve been on the fence I’m buying a year!
Great lesson , love the old axe, she's sweet
Amazing
The Em triad played over C sounded very Are You Lonesome Tonight-ish.
that was excellent. I appreciate these videos and lessons so much and I've been playin for a long time too. You put things in a very cool way that I can easily resonate with and it all makes perfect sense. A Master teacher, thanks so much, I always learn something from you videos.
Reminds me of Dave Rawlings. Nice.
If the ROYAL SOCIETY OF PUTTING THINGS ON TOP OF OTHER THINGS see's this video, they would probably start to learn gutar playing
The teachers - teacher!
That sounded similar to the theme song to the trailer park boys at the end lol.
Time to grab my guitar for my weekly lesson.
Would love to see some JohnFogerty type lead lessons and how he sounded like he used chords or triads to get his point across
Was waiting for Cmj7 and c7 to release into Harrison’s Something. Yet in vain)).
Thank you for great lesson, Brian!
Brian! please learn us how to improvise a jazz chord melody. Thanks
Can you tell us about that guitar? Is it an old D-18 or is it one of the new ones with some relicing? It's very nice
can I ask for a guitar tutorial * follow the steps * of the band gugun blues?
I‘m so grateful for these lessons! Are there also seperate lessons for sale on your patreon?
I don’t have patreon - all lessons are posted at ActiveMelody.com
@@activemelody ok thanks man!
Been playing minor chords without knowing only did it because it sounded good 😂
👍
Dominante 7th Is the micolydian mode?
I see the Mandoline on the wall. How about basic starter course. And then course using multiple shapes throw 154 with some easy arpeggios.
A new guitar I see? Vintage Martin?
1956 D-28
I have guitar envy
HTF was " R.C. Christian ? pseudonym for ? Rosicrucian !
The Georgia Guide Stones 😀🎸 & Don't call the Doctor ; he's OFF his Rocker ; & " Quarantine Serpentine 👿" coming soon to be released by : The Great Chain 🎸
The relative minor of C is Am. How is there also an Em in the same chord?
I'm learning still but if you were playing a C7, or C Major 7th (C-E-G-B) but then flatten the 7th wouldn't it be a C7Dom, or C Major Dominant 7th?
Sorry didn't listen to the rest lol. Guess i was right YEEEAH😁
Thinking Willy Nelson used a lot of this concept
11:20 could've swore you said "seasick chord" lol
Those seasick chords are super rare
